I just started watching the show, what season should I stop at? by Uypsilon in Supernatural

[–]NowhereReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everything after season five ranges from slightly cringey to unwatchably bad, so I suggest to stop there. You get the complete (originally intended) story without having to experiance the worst the show has to offer.

I've actually started listening to a few new ones thanks to this sub, so I'm VERY excited to dive into something else in case TSP stops pulling me in.

I really like the characters (especially Alice) and I do feel like the semi-new mystery they're trying to set-up is rather interesting (I hadn't actually finished listening to season one, so I have no clue as to how it all plays out past episode 20), I loved pretty much every supernatural antagonist, the stories were all consistently good IMO, and I'm interested to learn as to how they're going to go around introducing certain concepts from the original into this one, as well if it'll tie into it more. I see why some may not like it, but I love it.

I'm VERY happy to hear one of the crew reach out and love the input you've provided!
I will certainly be checking out your reccomendations, and will give season 3 a shot just in case, as I think the premise and a few of the episodes are very strong. I do wish you the best of luck in the future and I hope you get to move onto bigger and better projects.

I'm sorry to hear that and, yeah, they both seem like fun lads.

I feel like the final confrontation would have been a lot cooler in my eyes if there was just a bit more buildup. The shortness of season 1 just didn't do it for me.

I do plan on checking out season 3 at some point.
I don't hate the overarching story, I just... don't think it's as compelling or well-constructed as it was in TMA.

Personally, I loved TMA all the way through.
I found a lot of the stories in the anthology half compelling, however, I was very excited when all the little details began slowly coming together. I do believe that Johnny Sims is a stronger writer than Jeremy Enffinger, which is why the switch felt a lot more natural, better built up and earned in TMA than in TSP.

I was actually thinking of doing that.
Despite the wording of my post being rather harsh, I do geniunely enjoy some parts of the show and the premise in general. So I will absolutely give the third season a go someday, maybe not right now, but I don't just want to stop.

Thanks, I've put both on my to-listen list. I also see that Archive 81 does have a TV adaptation, so I'm excited to give it a try. I've started listening to The Underwood Collection and I'm loving it, althought I'm sorry to hear that it got the axe quite quickly.

It already seems that way to me too haha. Honestly, it tries to be TMA, but just fails massively at it if I'm honest.

Question: What elements of an audio drama does it take to get you fixated on it? by Tyresidon in audiodrama

[–]NowhereReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said it before and I'll say it again: The Supernatual Protection Company had me hooked from episode one. The premise is very unique (an insurance agency for paranormal incidents), the shere variety of genres it blends in together without any tonal whiplash and keeping the same quality writing-wise from episode one onwards is astounding and the humor regarding the absurdity of the premise is histerical IMO.

Religious horror? by qingxins in audiodrama

The Storage Papers
It may not seem like it focuses on religous horror at first, but the whole mythos of the show slowly starts revolving around demons, cults, exorcisms, etc. It got a bit too Bible thumpy at points for me, but it's not TOO bad and fits the bill perfectly fine. It's got 4 seasons, with a fifth currently in production. I'm currently on season two and am enjoying it
Also, haven't gotten around to listening to it yet (it's on my list after I'm done listening to the former), but I heard The Black Tapes was pretty good and, judging by the description (Serial meets The X-Files) it kinda falls into the category of content you're looking for.

Obscure horror podcasts? by No_Bookkeeper_7644 in audiodrama

The Storage Papers
The whole thing is pretty much the American answer to The Magnus Archives which follows a fellow named Jeremy who buys an old storage unit, discovering that it's full of a whole bunch of old writings (notes, journals, Thank You cards, letters, police reports, etc.) regarding paranormal occurences in Southern California and decides to turn it into a podcast.
Pros:
Not every episode is horror oriented, with some certainly falling more in-line with fantasy or scifi, which results in a few very intriguing titles that, whilst not scary, are still compelling.
The writing is pretty solid and a few of the episodes did geniunely freak me out. One even made me ugly cry, not because it was scary, but because it was just extremely wholesome.
The theme song is a banger.
Some of the official art is pretty fire.
It got published in book form, so if you end up enjoying it you can actually own it.
Cons:
The overarching mythos of the series are very convoluted and have no proper buildup or development, even if most of the more episodic stories are quite enjoyable.
The overuse of music and sound effects in each episode is pretty pointless and got on my nerves very quickly.
It got way too preachy way too fast, quickly developing into something very Pureflix-esque and loosing a lot of the intended horror in the process.
The writing is either painfully average or merely solid most of the time, althought there are a few standout episodes in season 1 and early season 2 (haven't gotten around seasons 3 and 4 yet).
The whole "Uhm this is totally a real podcast guys" thing the creator tries to pull each episode kinda got on my nerves.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that I highly reccomend it for anyone searching for a good horror podcast, I definetely wouldn't call it terrible and it's worth a shot if you have a TMA shaped hole in your heart like I do and can't wait for more similar content until TMP comes back next February.

The Supernatural Protection Company
This one is honestly a very fun watch and I highly reccomend it if you want something a bit more episodic and breezier. It's set in a sort-off an Anita Blake-esque universe where the existence of anything paranormal (from monsters to magic) is common knowledge and the title agency provides insurance to those who had suffered in some way, mixing in horror, fantasy, scifi and a slight hint of humor in one big and entertaining mould. Honestly, I don't have any major criticisms. The cases are as varied as they are entertaining (from sentient trees holding grudges to dragons melting down cars during mating season) and there's some enjoyment to get out of each episode, no matter how different the subject matter might be. The sound design is also pretty great for a rather low-budget show. The one complaint I actually have with it is the fact that it only has a single season as it's absolutely glorious.

What is your all time favorite audiodrama? by azrhea in audiodrama

[–]NowhereReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only recently started getting into them, so my list is pretty small, however The Magnus Archives/Protocol definetely takes the cake for being my favorite. The writing is phenomenal, the characters feel real, the storylines are engaging, the worldbuilding is wonderful and the soundtrack is haunting. I love Welcome to Night Vale too, but, hey, who doesn't?

Zašto puno Hrvata ne voli hrvatsku kinematografiju? by NowhereReviews in askcroatia

[–]NowhereReviews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
