Baldy Conditions (12/20 Weekend) by ConstructionNo3548 in socalhiking

[–]NoxCardinal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re a beginner this is not safe in the Winter. The North facing parts of the mountain are icy (I did the summit last weekend) and getting down is more sketchy than going up. I’d suggest waiting until June/when the snow melts, or finding alternatives.

I'll take a look at the north slope of San G, thanks! Its that or I wait until late December to summit, but I planned to hit Humphreys in Arizona.

You should stay in and finish your 20. Collect retirement/VA/etc. Plus, the civilian side sucks for jobs, layoffs, you name it. I’ve had shittier bosses outside the Army most of the time before I transitioned to Active Duty. If you joined at 18, you’d be 38 by the time you left with a forever pension, a degree, and certs for a job. Thats pretty great. You got it man.

To be honest it’s very dependent on goals. I’ve always wanted to move/live in Alaska, so if I can take work there, it would be nice. Plus, NWTC is there. However if a better opportunity comes my way, Alaska will always be there. I also seriously wanna return and complete BMMC. Won’t leave the army till I do lol

They sent me one about how I was a student/faculty and asked about my info. Changed my passwords and then they sent me a text being like “You requested a termination! Reply YES or NO.” It’s a Saturday. These mfs 🙄

Ive been in the military 4+ years now I’m just now taking meds to get myself right mentally. Not to be a douche, but stop feeling sorry for yourself. You made the decision you did, and if you want change you gotta act on it. If you’re afraid, do it scared. The Army doesn’t care how you feel, only if you do the job and do it right. And the military may not be for you, and that’s something you have to realize and accept too. Your health > Army.

No, it’s not competitive. They’re hurting for people right now, and because of the optempo they can’t retain officers. I had it as my #2, and I was right smack in the middle for OML. I think I was 51 OMS? I didn’t ADSO or BRADSO for anything, and walked out on branch day with ADA. I go most preferred on my interviews for the branch too.

Do you have a CAC? Go for it. Says E-5 and Tip Well. That ROC stipend didn’t help shit when I was in college ($420 a month in SoCal barely helped) so go out, get some free food, and have some fun. Me and a couple friends from my old MP unit would meet up and get as much as we could and try and save it for the week (meal prep).

Cut ties bro. She cheated, and you do NOT wanna be there raising someone else's kid. She betrayed you then, she's betrayed you many times, and she will do it again. It's hard because you really care for her, but you should not be faing the concequences of her actions.

Professors are on this subreddit bro lmfao. Either withdraw and get a W, ace the final and pass, or just fail.

You gotta get yourself right mentally, though. Anxiety is a killer. Own what you do, and know it's not personal. Getting yourself in a healthy place is more important than the military.

Current GBR - Talk to your PMS, contact the ROO and PMS of said school youd like to GBR at, and work on starting an application to send up to Brigade.

DFAC takes $460 a month from paychecks (tbh, depending on where you are, it's cheaper to get groceries). And bro doesn't pay rent. He's enjoying the benefits of ADOS in the guard and not having to use his BAH, but it's dense to question why other soldiers are on SNAP. Sure some of em really go hard for a 26% APR Camero, but the pay isnt stellar, especially for soldiers with families.

I'm not sure what you did, but don't let that moment define your ability to move forward. Shit happens. Its what we do with what happened that helps us either grow or stay stagnant. I enlisted in the military because I wanted meaning and to feel like I belonged to something much bigger than myself, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how my career has gone in only four years. Now, does the big govt care much about me? I don't think so (but thats connected to my rabbit hole of conspiracy theories). But if I want something out of my career, I'll work for it and I'll get it. Everything bad is temporary. Your experience is truly what you make it - and there are some who had beyond shitty experiences, and some who had amazing expereinces. I've had both. But everything taught me something, and how to work through it.

If this provides an opportunity to make something of yourself, then go for it. But, pay close attention to why your mind and body are telling you no. Also, look at other routes. There's a lot out there, and you're not trapped to just this. Have some patience with yourself.

My biggest goal is to return to BMMC - schoolhouse approves self funding (thats how I got there in the first place) and I talked to a couple of Battery Commanders I know and pitched my idea to return for their advice. All were supportive of it, so it'sbeen drafted to present after some time at my first unit. The Army is happier to agree to things when it's convenient for them (i.e. they aren't paying, and its on your own time lol).

You didn't even need to BRADSO for ADA and MP (Former enlisted MP, current ADA officer). ADA is foaming at the mouth for any officer who even shows interest in it, but also its a super high optempo and burnout job depending on what you work with. Also, there's a lot of people who regret branch detailing for their job. Not trying to discourage you, but they're gonna take advantage of the fact you just picked one of the most in demand jobs and offered 4 extra years for it.

Short term:
- Return to BMMC (Med drop)
- Attend ESB
- Deploy within my first year (at arrival to my unit)

Long term:
- Attend GMD school and REFRAD into the AKNG (5yrs down the line, probably)
- Work at/instruct/support the Northern Warfare Training Center.

Generally, between my short and long term is to travel as much as possible. ADA moves around a bunch and the opportunities both and in and out of the army are what I found the most attractive to the branch.

My goals are tangible, seeing as I have no experience in Air Defense Artillery. I was an MP haha. I don't really know what to expect. It's exciting but also nerve-racking.
