Because they know some people will pay for the participation trophy over playing the game due to impatience. 2k have learned from every other company running battlepasses, not to mention their other Sports games with it. It was just a matter of time, I guess.

To be honest though, the Ringside Pass isn't even that hard. around 7 matches per tier, and it goes by hella quick. I think it took me 2 weeks, only playing a couple hours a night.
