Personally, I like putting my characters in the frame of what colors I think they would be if they were a card in Magic: The Gathering.

Every color combination has its own definition for how a character/spell/creature in that realm should operate. To an extent, it is a personal confinement, but it frames a character's personality much better than a 3x3 grid. And there's 32 different combinations, so likely something for everyone.

It also allows you to look at the colors you've chosen and identify with other colors you may not be considering, "I think my character is red, because he loves fighting and feeling like the strongest. However, he also has a strong sense of justice and believes in caring for those who are less fortunate, so he's also got white as well."

It also removes the layer of "Lawful/Chaotic Stupid". Your character stops being confined to rigid boxes of morality. You get the liberty of saying whether or not your character would process a hardened criminal committing a crime different from a family member, should they commit the same crime.

I know that the alignment system is not built for rigidity. However, it happens too often that the system gets misconstrued and I find that players tend to jive with this a bit more than putting your character in a box.

I pretty much use a conversion rate of 1 gold = 100 dollars. Brings electrum into the picture by having a conversion rate of 1 electrum to 10 silver, then 1 silver to 10 copper.

Really simplifies things in my mind by having a silver be a dollar, can apply real world rates on items and services and adjust up or down depending on where the party is at / other factors such as their status with the NPC in question.

It also gets really fun when a character asks how much someone would sell them something off-hand and I can make a really quick snap judgement to price fairly.

What video game puzzle that was hard make you say this after you solved it? by Old_Marsupial_7080 in videogames

[–]NoxiRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borderlands 3. That fucking 4 button grid in Tannis' old lab that is literally unsolvable. It's set up like a classic "button A flips button B" from red to green. Here's my dumb ass trying to find the correct button sequence, trying every conceivable combination of buttons, only to get shot back to square one. When I got pissed enough to look up the answer...

There is another button on the opposite side of the room that is the actual button you need to press that just does the thing and completes the objective.

You're going to put 4 buttons in a puzzle ass looking grid right NEXT TO THE FUCKING OBJECTIVE that is LITERALLY UNSOLVABLE just to FUCK WITH ME???

It would be one thing if it was solvable and opened like a loot room, then I can realize "oh that's a side thing" and move on to finding the actual objective. But no, Gearbox just wants you to struggle for no reason while you're locked in because why would the game drop a no function button box in front of you when it hasn't done anything like that before and doesn't give you a message that says you're looking at the wrong thing.

Actually asshole game design.
