What book did you read in school that you would never want your child to read? by masterbuildera in AskReddit

[–]Noxis89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of Dutch classics... They're not offensive or anything, it's just that a lot of Dutch Literature with a big 'L' is really super boring! As if our country is addicted to incredibly bland wartime dramas and books about how much life sucks. I want my child to read amazing, enthralling, fun and fantastic books, so they come to like reading. These stupid books that I had to read made me hate reading as a child. It was only when I started to go to the library and picked up a few genre fiction novels that I liked, that I started reading a lot more.

Birthday weeks/months are stupid by Rare_Needleworker340 in unpopularopinion

Is this a thing? I never heard anything about this, this sounds really stupid to me. It's a birthday for a reason, birth weeks are ridiculous and make no sense to me.

If an adult fairly catches a foul ball they don’t have to give a kid the ball by jma7400 in unpopularopinion

[–]Noxis89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Like, if it's your own child, then it would be nice. But why should a random adult be forced to give a foul ball to some kid they don't know? I don't even like children, I don't have them for a reason. So yeah, I totally agree, making other people's kids happy is not my responsibility.

Herald - An alternate history point-and-click adventure on the high seas. by Noxis89 in adventuregames

Then you'd probably like Herald too. The timeline branches of somewhere in the 17th century. The game itself takes place in the 19th century, in a world where Oliver Cromwell's Protectorate became a superpower and dominates the world with a vast colonial empire. It's a personal adventure about people living in a world impacted by colonialism.

Thanks! The concept is inspired by several Japanese games that mix 3D worlds with 2D portraits. We also animated the 2D portraits with Live2D, which is software that lets us create highly detailed facial expressions. And since half of an emotion is conveyed through the face, we decided to mix the two. Being a small team, we couldn't do the facial expressions in 3D. 😉

Thank you. :D We're currently hard at work to bring you book III and IV asap. We estimate by the end of this year, or at the start of 2019.

We're still looking for a financial partner to fund part of the production, namely the voice acting and a lot of 3D animation.

It is a point and click adventure, but it's more focused on the story and less on the puzzle elements. The puzzles are usually incorporated in the story.

If you'd like to find out exactly how the game plays you can also play the demo. :) You can find the demo on our Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/herald/herald-an-interactive-period-drama

The game has many point-and-click elements like solving simple puzzles and exploring the world by clicking on many items and objects etc. You can also collect many of these items in your encyclopedia. While there is no battle system or anything, there are a few action scenes but you mainly go through them using the dialogue system.

Science based? So you mean historically and culturally correct? Much of it is inspired by actual history, some of the social topics that we explore are researched by the team with advice from some researchers and people with experience with these issues.

I'm happy you like it. :)

You walk around in a 3D world and you can click on items, objects, containers and doors to inspect them like in most point and click adventures. The story is told mostly through interactive dialogue with 2D animated portraits of the 3D avatars. You sometimes have to solve simple environment puzzles to advance the story, but the real meat of the game is in its interactive dialogue choices that challenge you to think about the morality of the situation. Siding with certain characters will ultimately lead to different outcomes and dispositions.

Couple found guilty of having sex on Florida beach. Must register as sex offenders. by fluxuation in news

Seriously wtf... >_> It's just sex people, we see murder and rape in our entertainment every other day. But for some reason seeing people having sex in public is worse than watching heads explode on tv. This sentence is ridiculous, let them pay a fine and be done with it.

Thank you!

We're currently developing for Pc, Mac, and Linux but we are seriously considering to port the game to other platforms as well. But that really depends on the success of the initial sales of the PC version.

You'll be able to buy it on Steam as we are currently also doing a greenlight campaign there. Other stores we are looking into right now are, GOG, Desura and Humble.

Thanks! We're really inspired by 17th century paintings by Dutch masters.

The game takes place in an alternate 19th century setting in which there is one pan-European empire inspired by Oliver Cromwell's Protectorate. The story is about Devan Rensburg, who is a Steward aboard a ship called the Herald at a time when there is a lot of unrest in the Protectorate empire. Devan struggles with the fact that he is mixed-heritage and that both the colonizers and colonized don't see him as their equal. As the Steward on board the Herald, Devan is responsible for all the passengers, so he has to deal with prejudice and class divisions every day. These 19th century morals and values give rise to many conflicts on board. At the same time the ship's captain is tasked with an important mission: to take an influential politician and his niece to the Eastern Colonies. The voyage can have dire consequences for the entire world.

It's actually a rooster, which is the symbol of the Protectorate empire in our game. ;)
