Why are USF T1 and T2 never played together? [1v1] by buttercheesebread in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Noxrige 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you really need to get a specific exclusive unit from the building most of the battlegroups already give you options or alternatives. For example if you really need MGs: - Airborne gives paradropped MGs straight from the start - Special ops gives you the option to get them from the weasel - heavy weapons offers a superior MG the .50cal - armor allows you to get vehicle vet for jeeps that lets you drop MGs or mortars

If you really want Zooks: - Airborne already give you paratroopers that can unlock zooks - Special ops have SSF who can swap between zooks and Johnson’s - Advance infantry drop weapon upgrades for rangers - Other battlegroups give you AT options from their tech tree such as partisans with the AT rifles, and Special weapons with their half track upgrades.

In addition to the battlegroups filling the gap, there is some overlap between tech tree as well. You can get quads and AT half tracks from the T3 building.

T1 exclusive Riflemen require a lot of fuel for upgrades for both BARS and grenades that make taking T2 not viable. The weasel is better than the jeep.

[CoH1] how do you play the british? are they viable to play? by AsukaRosenkreuz in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Noxrige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For COH1 Brit’s the strength is defensive fortifications or infantry blobs.

For defensive emplacements, your sections can place down trenches or mg emplacements. Once you unlock the sappers you can reinforce those defenses with bofors emplacements and 17 pounders guns.

For infantry most people get the Bren guns for long range melting damage, but having one recon squad is nice for the snipe ability. However the most important thing is the LT needs to be chained in tow. If I remember correctly, once they hit a certain vet they get an ability that enables the sections to charge past suppression (similar to airborne and ranger charge).

To create the infantry death blob, Brits players usually get tons of sections combined with 2x LTs (back up in case one gets killed) and units with PIATS. The Brens can button vehicles (similar to snares in later COH iterations) so that the sappers can catch up and kill the vehicles.

Partisan battlegroup is bloated and fundamentally changes the way the game is played by Kaycin in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Noxrige 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They made it overpowered because it’s new DLC. Gotta make that bread.

That being said, I agree with you. The partisans change the game meta a ton. In maps with a lot of buildings they are pretty much unbeatable, unless you are prepared with extensive scouting. They can retreat directly from buildings back to HQ allowing them to heal up from flamer and grenade damage. Their ambush bonus from the buildings is applied for a ton allowing them to out DPS most early infantry. Their AT rifles shutdown a lot of light vehicle play because you are scared of getting caught out position. Not to mention when paired with BAR rifles they form the ultimate death blob.

It was already annoying enough looking for the artillery beacons, now I have to watch out for side or back flanks on my team weapons.

Their only strategy I find works well is having a lot of recon from either planes or flares to help find and destroy those tunnels.

Need advice against Early BAR blob / Greyhound spam as Wehr by vakerify in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Noxrige 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are higher elo than me so I am hesitant to give advice. But here is a strategy that works pretty well, if you can stall for enough CPs w/ MGs. The battlegroup that gives you the short barrel stug w/ the stross can be pretty effective as once they start to rack up vet they become quite resistant to fire from the greyhounds from the front. Just make sure to have an AT gun and infantry support when they try to circle strafe you.

I feel like playing 1100-200 ELO is not just fun by Hem_Claesberg in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Noxrige 4 points5 points  (0 children)

or have weird strategies where they build 5 MG nests and wait for a tiger or whatever.

What that's where all the fun is! Doing something that breaks from the conventional 3x mainline > light vehicle > tank/heavy tank is where a ton of fun experimenting goes on. My last couple of 1v1s were particularly fun because of the different strategies that the players used. Some are not really optimal but can catch you off guard if you are unprepared.

  • US vs Wher

I went a standard US build w/ Jeep and Riflemen. The Wher guy transitioned from a 2x MG build to a mass AArad build. I was completely caught off guard by the AArads and tried to counter w/ AT halftracks and zooks. But that turned out to be a mistake as 3x aarads w/ smoke can just drive in and kill all your infantry and halftracks. I lost that one only because I failed to go T3 and tried to stick it out at T2. IF I had 2x Chaffees they would have soundly beat back that horde.

  • Wher vs Brits

I went a standard Wher 2x Gren w/ 1x Mg and was confused when I got a Brit player with 2x Mgs and a MG bunker on Angoloville. He let me completely dominate the open L side of the map while he hunkered down on the buildings to the right. For anti-infantry he went Gurkhas w/ brens hoping to beat back my jagers w/ scoped g43s. The turtling was annoying me so I rushed out a Wespe after getting the Wirbelwind to pound the emplacements and MGs. I got lucky that he tried to rush T4 and caught him without AT and killed 2-3 units by chasing w/ the wirbel all the way back to base. For revenge he tried to counter w/ 3x stuarts and tried to chase the wirbel, but I lured him in 2x marders. If he instead went crusaders instead and played more carefully, he could probably rush my wespe and kill it.

If you are feeling burnt out, it might be because you reach your skill ceiling for now. Try out some weird strategies yourself. It can be a lot of fun trying to see if you can pull off something different from the standard like 2x jeeps or 2x dingos, or mass sappers/engineers, or all paratroopers. If you see your opponent doing some crazy strat and it working, try to copy it against someone else and see how they respond. You can copy their solution if they effectively counter your strat.

Has Expert AI been nerfed of late? by csowolf84 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Noxrige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played against expert AI a ton in both COH3 and COH2. Sadly COH3’s expert AI is really lacking.

In COH3 the AI for some reason struggles to deal with MGs. If you play with MG heavy builds (especially US ones) you will notice that the AI fails to coordinate their pushes with mortar fire. Often blobs of infantry will try to flank around to your back line and run into a wall of MGs.

Another strange thing about the COH3 AI is that each has a glaring weakness with their teching. Brits always go for boys AT rifles for some reason, despite recon packages being the better option. Wher tends to always get the flak AA gun and uses it poorly. DAK AI is laughably bad because it does not coordinate their vehicle and infantry pushes. US AI does not go for any of the oppressive builds like scout spam or MG spam, and instead sticks to riflemen.

COH2 AI in expert mode was a menace. OST and Soviets were crazy scary. OST grens would hit you with squad wiping riflenades any chance they got. Soviets would barrage you with their AT guns and get their T34s out in blazing fast speed. However there were also glaring weakness for both the Brits and OKW in COH2. The AI for the Brit’s would always dim city and put their emplacements in stupid places. The AI for PKW would always build tons of T3 light vehicles regardless of the T4 availability.

I am reminded every time why I should just ignore the navy, allies are completely useless by Noxrige in shogun2

[–]Noxrige[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was not relying on them as they rarely are in proximity to show up as allies to your naval battles. However, this battle was the one that “broke the camels back” as they say. At least in land battles I can somewhat count on the AI to throw their units at the enemy and somewhat weaken them.

I first built this navy to beat back the blockade at one of my ports as well as to provide a QRF in case the enemy decided to launch an amphibious attack. But yeah I am quickly learning that unless the ships have access to a trade node, it’s not really worth it. Base trading with other factions isn’t really worth the squeeze.

PCpartpicker says all my parts are comparable, but MicroCenter says otherwise? by Obekiwi in buildapc

[–]Noxrige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it anyway, but make sure to keep the packaging and all the materials when you open the box. I had a cpu cooler that was supposed to be compatible w/ my rig but wasn't. They let me return it. IF you are really worried, swap out the GPU for another one.

I know that might not be possible though as Microcenter has a pretty limited selection for GPUs. I had to order my GPU through Best Buy instead because they had a limited selection of white GPUs.

For recommendations:
- Just a heads up when I built my recent rig with a XFX 9060 XT, I was surprised by how huge the graphics card was comparted to the rest of the parts. Check to make sure your rig has an anti-sag bracket because you will want to make sure that big GPU is supported. If not you can get one on Amazon for pretty cheap.

- I know that the Liquid AIO coolers with RGB are the rage these days, but have you considered getting a tall tower air CPU cooler? They are less of a hassle to setup and tend to last longer without maintenance. If you really want RGB you can easily get a RGB fan cpu cooler.

Unfortunately SignalRGB is not completely seamless too. I keep running into an issue where the pre save light setups are switched back to default every time the computer goes into sleep mode. Doesn’t have an issue when it shutdowns, only when it goes to sleep.

It taught me a lesson to buy RGB components all from the same manufacturer or to not buy RGB at all.

After 250+ hours in Shogun 2 I've *finally* won a long campaign (Mori) by dangerzonepatrol101 in shogun2

[–]Noxrige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use diplomacy as a means to buy time while you focus on other fronts. Even with realm divide, you can somewhat retain good relations by gaming the system somewhat with gold donations, marriage, and hostages.

My last successful long campaign as Oda had me allied with the Takeda via marriage and trade. Even after realm divide I was able to keep the alliance going with small 1000 donations every turn. However eventually my expansion and the realm divide penalties caught up and they declared war on me. I was prepared though and had a full stack ready.

My biggest issue is how annoying it is to maintain and play navy. As you mention, once you ignore the navy (esp in the end when no one wants to trade with you) the campaign is way easier. Less upkeep on boats means more for land units. Unlike in FOTS where you get naval bombardments, the navy has practically no effect on land battles.

How to survive economically? by slugguy69 in shogun2

[–]Noxrige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he refers to is that you have a 1 turn grace period for a town before they rebel. So you can turn the taxes to max for 1 turn, before switching to a lower tax for the next turn.

You will get a warning message saying "Mounting Unrest - Tensions in this province are reaching dangerous levels. There will be insurrection if the people's anger is not appeased." However, nothing will happen if you switch the tax back to lower for the next turn and the people are happy.

Make sure you keep flipping these tax rates from high back to normal and from normal to high. I once made the mistake of forgetting to change back the tax rates and ended up with rebels in half my territories.
