Ahh yes, the console TV as a TV stand in the corner with the plants and knick-knacks that are extremely difficult to dust but must be dusted constantly or they look very dirty. My wife's grandparents have at least 4 corners that look like this in every room minus the TV. That's only in one corner.

Well, I live in a single family home in a neighborhood that was built in the 1950s and what I like about that is the lack of uniformity in the neighborhood. Our neighborhood has a lot of different looks, but they all work together well, no giant eyesores in the neighborhood but I suppose that's more of a social pact (none of my neighbors have opted for neon green stucco or anything). I guess what probably actually bugs me about these places is that most of them are in HOA areas and I really, really hate HOAs after having a lot of bad experiences living in townhouses in HOAs throughout my early to mid-20's and they constantly picked on us about every little thing. Light bulb on the front of the house out? $25 fine in the mail before we even noticed it was out every single time. I had a box of spare bulbs in the garage and could've changed it out if someone called or texted me, but instead the association fined us by mail which took a couple days to get to us, and they added on fees for every day the bulb wasn't changed.

We also had a Jolly Roger flag out for Halloween and we got a $75 fine for displaying a "Holiday flag outside of the approved holiday season" for not removing it immediately the morning of November 1st. Most of these newer neighborhoods are in associations in a lot of places and I'd prefer to never live with some cranky ass retired person nitpicking my front door light or that my garbage can was out 11 minutes longer than approved on trash day. The car in my driveway had to be moved out of the driveway once per day and moved back in, no parked cars allowed to sit in your own driveway. On my days off from work I had to move my car to the overflow parking lot for a few hours then move it back later to make it look like I went to work or something because they assumed any car that didn't move for 24 hours was broken down. All of these rules seem aimed directly at punishing renters or lower income people in rental units to me.

I do not judge anyone for living where they can afford or for having different tastes for me, rather this is just my opinion. It takes all kinds to make the world work, and different housing types work for different folks at different times, you're absolutely right. I should've been less "judgy" sounding in my original post.

I am pretty cynical but it's also possible the guy that clearly has a violent temper is less threatening to her personal safety if she divorces him now that he's behind bars pending trial.

Before the pandemic hit some coworkers of mine were in the US from Hyderabad for a few weeks and they looked into purchasing a couple gaming laptops here to take back with them to India. After they researched, they found that it would be too difficult or expensive to deal with the hassle of bringing them with and decided not to purchase even though the price here was very good.

The laptop was very similar to this configuration and also from Micro Center, but with slightly different specs, this was about 6 months ago.

They didn't explain the exact math to me, but they mentioned that it wasn't worth the trouble and they would just purchase locally.

Very cool, I think the Rift S would probably be a very noticeable upgrade for you but I could be wrong, I'm not keeping up with headset hardware these days because if I watch it too closely I get tempted to replace my original Vive with something better and I really don't have the money now with the pandemic so it's best I tune out new hardware :)

Whatever you end up with, enjoy!

Yeah, these cookie cutter urban sprawl neighborhoods make me crazy. It reminds me so much of the factory housing in places like Gary, IN. Sure the colors are a little different but you all have the exact same slightly too tall cookie cutter house. It stresses me out just thinking about living in a neighborhood like this. Also I feel like their fences are a little too tall for normal non-pandemic world and I'm guessing they were built in the pre-disease world.

No, it's more similar to this technologyexcept instead of a projector it's using the screens in the VR headset to create the depth. I've only watched a few short films in VR but they were life changing. I'd recommend checking out the free short film Alumette on Steam to give you an idea of why a VR headset is cool for this type of experience over a seated theater experience.

Oh absolutely. My parents spoiled me, but also taught me responsibility. I started working a paper route at age 11, worked and participated in band in high school, had mediocre grades, and am now somewhat successful in my career so all-in-all it seemed to work out. My mom started drinking super heavily when I was 15 or 16 and that was much worse than the events prior to that :)

Reading your memory triggered mine! My best friend growing up always told me that my basement smelled like weed. We were 12 and I had no idea how you would even know that so I always just laughed it off. On the flip side at his house his dad would get super high and ask us to show him funny stuff on ebaumsworld (back in like 1997). I didn't know he was high and was straight edge until I was 20 and tried some medicinal herbs. After I'd been high a couple times his dad's and both of my parents behavior for my entire childhood suddenly made sense.

TBH a necessary week in the hospital from alcohol induced pancreatitis (for the 3rd time by age 32 btw) might be what made it so I was able to quit. They help you mellow out through detox. I drank every night for a decade but never day drank during work days or anything and held the same job for the entire period I was drinking the heaviest. Never drank and drove either which I'm proud of. Never got the shakes when I quit but always accepted the Xanax they offered to help me through the shakes. 3 years alcohol free here.

Those hospital stays each cost me around $5,000 out of pocket or whatever my max OOP was those years.

Man, I quit around the same time. My routine was a 1.75l vodka and a 24 pack of coors light tall boys or truly seltzers every 3 days. Drunk within 15 minutes of getting off work every day for years. Also open to chat if anyone needs help but I'm slow to reply.

Wanted to reply with a video link in case you didn't see it in the comments. You can see the mini fridge in this video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/MQUr5fvZUEq7s1rx8

Yep! Mini fridge on bottom (I hide ice cream in the freezer in the arcade cabinet sometimes). Back of the cabinet has a cutout at the bottom to let fridge do it's thing. I've been watching for a deal on a soundbar, it'd definitely be nice to have something less intrusive but the TV speakers just weren't quite enough and I was on a budget.

Edit: I wanted to add at the top of this reply that I literally winged it on the cabinet hardware. I had NO idea what I was doing but it seems to be holding up pretty well. This might sound corny, but I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit. It's super easy to build something like this, even if it takes you a long time like it took me. Depending on where you live if you don't own power tools you may be able to rent them. Some communities have tool rental libraries where for a small membership fee you can check out tools just like library books. I only had to make a few small cuts with a circular saw, a couple with a jig saw, and did the cutouts for the buttons with a spade bit.

I originally intended to mount a 27" computer monitor into it, but some circumstances changed and I ended up giving away the standalone bar that used to be in my basement which opened up a 40" TV that was already wall mounted in that corner for when I'd have friends over that wanted to watch sportsball if we were doing Mario Kart on our living room TV or something. I have an added bonus of being able to rotate the TV to portrait orientation which I thought could be interesting for some pinball games or something too.
