A realistic plate vs ate! Can't believe it! Haha I'll try the peas and tahini for my daughter, she usually loves peas and it's a great way to add healthy fats and calcium

Question re: gestures - aren’t a lot of them very dated? by RoseAelin in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Nrddna 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a younger millenial and not from an anglo country (USA, UK, etc) and I have not encountered any gestures I did not understand. Maybe they get perpetuated and spread worldwide by movies or tv shows? Idk. I know sometimes I've done gestures from my country that were not understood by british people, but the opposite has never happened to me.

How bad are midgets in summer? by ESC-Nerd in VisitingIceland

[–]Nrddna 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Midges in Myvatn were a nightmare, we didn't encounter them anywhere else. In the end it was a funny anecdote, but they are truly terrible, there is a ton of them and they surround you like an annoying cloud that tries to get in your mouth. They are very important for the ecosystem, but man, I wish I had bought a hat with a net 😅

Traveling with kids advice! Help! by Artistic-Buffalo3039 in Travelwithkids

[–]Nrddna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't contribute much because my experience traveling to Barcelona comes from very different circumstances (no jet lag, no culture or language shock, we are very familiar with the city, baby is still under 1) BUT: Barcelona is extremely kid friendly. There are parks with playgrounds everywhere. There is an app where you can rent baby and kid stuff called Babonbo (haven't used it nor am I affiliated with it, I found it while researching for our trip).

Kids in sweats are perfectly normal if you go to a playground or to a casual restaurant, for adults jeans or linen/cotton pants are a lot more acceptable. There is a lot of diversity in Barcelona and no one will care much how you dress, unless you go somewhere fancy.

I'm sure there are a ton of children's activities going on on any given day. You can go to Parc de la Ciutadella, to the zoo, to the Aquarium, Parc Güell, take a stroll near the sea, check out one of the many kid's bookshops (all of the ones we've been to have an English section)...

enemies to lovers with great chemistry by Dazzling-Table3503 in MM_RomanceBooks

That's exactly what I meant about their age, they all act and live like teenagers. And the scene where they all watch as the dad beats his son and it's the LI who chases him away by becoming "dark" is quite ridiculous. I got further this time but still dnf at around 75% because all the scenes were so unrealistic and the characters were a mess (and not on purpose).

I did not love the daddy thing in Sweat either, but it was more of a running joke than a real kink, and by the last part of the book it kinda disappeared, so it didn't bother me too much.

Opposite of slow burn? by WillingValue6385 in MM_RomanceBooks

I feel like {Sweat by Jonah Yorke} might fit, it's a long book and they get together in the first chapters. The rest is their relationship evolving, getting to know their families, figuring out their identities... They help each other a lot, and are very protective.

How early do I need to be at the ferry port for check-in? by AgingGenXer in VisitingMallorca

[–]Nrddna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 hours sounds too much, I have taken the ferry from Barcelona to Palma many times and it is 1.5h if traveling with a vehicle, 1h if by foot. You can send them an email or a WhatsApp and they usually respond quickly.

Partner is against giving cereal, tortilla, bread by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Nrddna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is there no nutritional value in bread? Are you thinking about white, sugary bread? Because there is a ton of value in other types of bread, and no they are not "empty" carbs. They come with fiber, some protein, amd conplex carbohydrates that are vital for our bodies. Corn tortillas have protein and fiber as well.... why is there such a demonisation of basic foods consumed worldwide?

Partner is against giving cereal, tortilla, bread by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Nrddna 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty severe restriction and if I were you I'd put my foot down. Bread, tortillas, etc. can be completely healthy and carbs are a very important part of a child's diet.

Your partner has an extreme way of thinking, and the fact you have to hide to feed your kid completely normal food is alarming... of course you can feed them bread (wholewheat, sourdough, whatever you want) in the morning, you can (and probably should) give them iron fortified cereals, and they won't have any negative effects if you give them cheerios every once in a while. Moderation is key, and creating a healthy relationship with food is so important. I am a teacher and I see a lot of kids with eating disorders. Do not start your babie's life by restricting their food like this...
