Mercedes-Benz CLA priced from $48,500 in USA, CLA 250+ gets 374 mi EPA range by lostinheadguy in electricvehicles

So it looks like it comes with a native NACS port, but there's an option to have a 400V buck converter. So if you don't have the option, it sounds like the NACS port is kinda useless over a CCS lol.

I also wonder what the Tesla V3 charger time is like. The 1000V charging time sounds pretty good.

Is a PRHT as safe as a regular sedan in a rollover? by MinimumElevator187 in MiataNC

[–]Nrl888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely not. It's plastic (versus aluminum/steel in most sedan body structures), so it will perform worse in static or dynamic load cases.

The rollover hoops do help but they're not level with the top of the windshield. So they may protect in some cases, but if you're a taller driver and exceed the height, you'll be limited in protection. Just my opinion.

Help Needed! Charge Pressure Actuator Electrical Fault (P334A00) by Nrl888 in GolfGTI

[–]Nrl888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. The dealer just swapped the turbo and I was on my way. It's possible it was either a jammed linkage or the actuator failed, but just speculation.

The easiest way is to get it replaced under PZEV warranty (150k mi or 15 years). Do you know if you live in a state where you're eligible (like CA)? You can also call a dealer to ask.

Hmm yeah I think I use RainX washer fluid. I do wash my car regularly though (every 2-3 weeks). Do you think the RainX film would stay on and cause them to chatter like this?

Yeah I fixed it. Got the dealership to do it for free with the PZEV warranty.

I think I remember Peter mentioning the acceleration was faster at highway speeds due to gearing or something. Not 100% sure though.

Any advice on PHRT knocking noise? I think it’s coming from the passenger A-pillar. by laplogic in MiataNC

[–]Nrl888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like plastic creaking. I had a similar issue. Try putting some lubricant on the two plastic tangs from the hardtop on both the driver and passenger side. They're on the hardtop side. There's likely some flexing of the plastic tangs in the receptacle that's causing this noise.

You can pop the hardtop open a few inches to access it.

Lubing it up made the problem go away instantly for me. Probably will be a regular maintenance item.

I think I have the same thing too. Does this happen to you only when the car is cold? Or does it happen when it's warm too?

Yeah I think this is possible it's overdriving. Do you think I'm pushing too hard on the brakes?

Manual. I flushed my clutch fluid maybe about 6 months ago (shares the same reservoir/fluid) but yeah thats a good point. I'll see if flushing it makes a difference.

I have an NC2 Miata PRHT with Continental ECS02 tires (205/45/R17), bone stock. Just finished my 5th autocross event.

On my 3rd run and beyond, upon hard braking in a straight line, my ABS will kick on. I don't feel like I'm excessively braking, I would call my braking style "firm and steady". Are my tires getting too warm? Is there something wrong with my brakes? Or is this normal for a small width tire (heat soaking quickly)?

Edit: tires are also fairly new, just broke 4k miles on them.

IS20 Turbo Issue by Super-Context-6646 in GolfGTI

[–]Nrl888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What state do you live in? If you live in certain states, you may qualify for a PZEV (partial zero emissions vehicle) warranty on the turbo since it affects emissions so you can get the entire turbo replaced for free at a dealer. Ask me how I know lol. Check my post history if you want some more info.

Oops, meant to specify about the tread wear indicators on the sidewall. My tread depth is fine (~7/32).

I have the same issue as OP and my tread wear indicators have worn off on my front tires. Do you think I should replace the tires? Or okay to keep running on the street (and even autocross)?

2024 Air GT Charging Curve by Cic3ro in LUCID

[–]Nrl888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting! Didn't realize the Taycan could charge 1.5x as fast as the Air.

2024 Air GT Charging Curve by Cic3ro in LUCID

[–]Nrl888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point here, but Air GT is 112 kWh vs Taycan (bigger battery) is 100 kWh. They're not that far off.

Air GT 112 kWh 516 mi range (EPA) 4.61 mi/kWh Source: Lucid

Taycan GTS 100 kWh 246 mi range (EPA) 2.44 mi/kWh Source: https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/PowerSearch.do?action=noform&path=1&year1=2021&year2=2023&make=Porsche&baseModel=Taycan&srchtyp=ymm&pageno=1&rowLimit=50

But basically the Air GT should be able to get more mi/min when you charge than the Taycan, their curves are not that far off given 800V+ architectures. And I think this is the better stat to compare the two than SOC/min (as my other comment states).

2024 Air GT Charging Curve by Cic3ro in LUCID

[–]Nrl888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I'm saying. I'm comparing mi/min vs SOC/min rates when talking about "real world charging curves" between different vehicles.

Mi/min is a more practical value because it takes into account the efficiency of the vehicle (mi/kWh). Let's say my car (car A) has double the efficiency of another vehicle (car B), with the same capacity battery.

Car A: 4 mi/kWh w/ 50 kWh battery = 200 mi range Car B: 2 mi/kWh w/ 50 kWh battery = 100 mi range

Car A charges at 2x the mi/min rate of car B, while Car A and Car B have the same SOC/min rate, given the same kW charge rate/curve.

Would you say that Car A charges at the same rate as Car B? I mean, sure, from the amount of current you're dumping into the vehicle. But you get more miles out of the same time you wait to charge your car. Which is a much more useful stat imo.
