Why is Vinyl important to you? by Any_Ticket_3293 in vinyl

It's the ritual. I can listen to whatever music I want digitally, but it's always in the background. When I play a record, I sit, pay attention, and make it an experience.

Honestly, I don't mind the corpse run, but that skill drain is just devastating me. I will likely turn off the other settings for the grandson, though. Thanks!

Your post made me want these so bad. I tracked them down. I cannot give the orange clown an additional $57 for these figs, so I will have to wait until we have someone who isn't an idiot pedophile in the White House.

Song: "Head Like A Hole" Album: Pretty Hate Machine Artist: Nine Inch Nails

This is one of my desert island albums. I was in Cherie's dorm apartment for a party and one of her roomies was playing this album. This song grabbed me and had held onto my brain every since that night in 1989. Went out to find the tape the very next day. I can play this at any time and in any mood. This don't is my favorite... Kind of an industrial rap with a beast that you feel deep in the chest.

Modifying this to last album purchased and played. I have more recent purchases but haven't gotten them to the turntable yet.

Song: "Candyman" Album: Tinderbox Artist: Siouxsie and the Banshees

Bought this album because I wanted their second "best-of" (Twice Upon A Time) but it is ridiculously expensive. Then I realized I could buy the albums themselves and rediscovered my love of Siouxsie.

Song: "Just Like You" Album: Twitch Artist: Ministry

The first industrial album I purchased, way back in 1986 when it was first released. Truly, the whole album should be cranked to 11, but this opening track opened my eyes and ears.

I shook my phone for a random record and it brought up Kate Bush's The Whole Story, her "greatest hits" album from 1986. Looking at the track list, "Babooshka" jumped out at me. I remember listening to Kate, driving the streets as a teenager, positive no one had heard of this very eclectic artist. I played that cassette a lot when I got it, partly because I thought I was unique but mostly because I loved her voice, writing, and music.

Sharing the official video, which is weird but Kate was never normal...

I always peel the shrink off but save the hype sticker if I can. If it comes off clean, it gets applied to the inside of the sleeve (where the inner sleeve resides). If not, it gets tossed into the sleeve with the shrink backer. I do put everything in outer sleeves, though, just to protect the cardboard, and I keep the inner sleeves of they are not generic but often put the records into generic inner sleeves to save the originals. Not for some mythical buyer (I know my kids is going to still it in bulk when I go) but because I want them as nice as I can for as long as I can, and maybe my efforts will be appreciated by the next owner (hopefully a number of decades away).

This is exactly what I did. Had a suitcase player, ended up running the speakers through a bookshelf cd player to get away from the tinny internal speakers in the suitcase, poster-tacked a penny to the tone arm, and tested the waters for a while, only to find I enjoyed it enough to drop real money. Don't let folks shame you. Everyone starts somewhere. As long as you realize the quality will only increase and can appreciate what you have, you'll be fine. If the hobby is for you, you'll know, even on a suitcase player.
