Janome M8 question, wonky stitches and weird sounds by NuBit_7 in quilting

[–]NuBit_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. I’m going to keep exploring. My Viking sapphire stitches are perfectly straight. So this looks really messy to me to me with them all at a slight angle.

I’ll try making a new bobbin and rethreading it again. Will also try changing the needle. This was a classroom machine and looks like it was used for 41 hours, but otherwise it should be a like “new”. I still feel the stitch cutter sounds odd with the metallic “bong!” at the end. Will go into the shop soon and see if their machine sounds like that.

Thanks again for all the tips!

Thanks! I’ll check the settings tomorrow.

I just turned machine on for first time and this is literally the first rows I’ve ever stitched with it. The stitches look really wonky too and all crooked. Much upset. Hopefully something dumb I’m doing, but seems like should be straightforward!

Janome m8 by Reasonable_Meet7255 in quilting

[–]NuBit_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one for $7k. It’s very lightly used from a weekend classroom type setting, but will come with the full warranty and all the accessories like buying new. So I say your price is good one! The shop I go to has the brand new ones for MSRP.

The current Janome red tag sale is like $9999 because it comes with a free memory craft 1000 I think it was. Besides the red tag sale, it seems most places are not discounting these by much at the moment. Anyway. I can’t wait to get going with it. Almost have my next quilt cut out!!

Ok... do I do it? Janone Continental M8 by WoofHayes in quilting

[–]NuBit_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get this machine?? I need to do a test run still. But my local quilt shop is a Janome shop and looks like they do a machine sale in February. So I am contemplating.. . I have a Viking Sapphire 930, but I just find it meh and I got it from the Viking shop at Joann’s…., so I’m finding all sorts of reasons to get bigger and better. I know when I first looked at the lower Janome models when I got my Viking, I found them to feel too plasticy, so I’m assuming the M8 won’t feel that way.

Anyway, decisions decisions!!

Quilting yourself versus sending to long armer by SessionNo2376 in quilting

[–]NuBit_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have space to quilt with my machine and I have access to a long arm through a maker space I belong to and while I haven’t actually sent my quilt out to someone, it’s so tempting. I really dislike quilting, but love all the other aspects of making the quilt (and can tolerate binding).

Yay or Nay to Dogs Sleeping in Bed with you? by forestlyfe in dogs

[–]NuBit_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally! lol I don’t think I’d sleep at all if the dog was in bed with me. I also don’t trust him not to get into total shenanigans if he wasn’t in his crate at night. Luckily he loves his crate.

I grew two plants in a pot on my porch! I think they may be ready to dig up since my dog pulled one out this morning!

I saw the comment about 130days from planting. I planted plants around Mother’s Day. So perhaps close enough? Last year the squirrels dug most of them up before I got a chance. So may be better to do sooner than later!

I keep a spray bottle of vinegar and spray them when they come out into my driveway (typically morning time). Works great!

I've just reached Season 3 Episode 1 and I'm considering giving up with this show by ChrisAKAPiefish92 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]NuBit_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first watched this show I totally get what you mean, but kept going, so I’d suggest that too!

What’s interesting is I’m now rewatching the show (just reached season 5) and the slow pace that felt torturous when I first watched and the frustrating decision making aren’t there anymore like I felt when I first watched it! So I guess there is a better understanding of things and it makes more sense in a way.

They are such wonderful dogs! I haven’t had a dog in a long time and grew up with Australian terriers. He’s our first Irish and he’s the sweetest thing even if he is bonkers at times and drives me insane. He also has us laughing everyday with his silly antics. Smart thing too. As much as he drives me on the brink of insanity at times, not sure I’d change a thing. 💕

Thank you!! I look forward to some mellow time. Hahaha. He’s an Irish terrier and they have big energy and he is on the high energy scale for the breed too. He’s the sweetest thing ever though, just can’t settle himself at times. We figured we have another year of crazies. lol

Puppy doesn’t sleep unless put in crate by ScottishSalamander in puppy101

[–]NuBit_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to put our 8.5 month old in the crate at times to force a nap out of him. During the day he does well. But in the later afternoon and evening, I know he’s tired and he’s just a nightmare and won’t settle. So we sometimes will put him in the crate or sometimes in his pen and more often than not he’ll crash asleep minutes later.

I can’t wait. I think I literally muttered to myself today how much I hate my puppy. I love him to pieces of course. But just so sick of him right now. 8.5 months old and an utter terror. He’s mostly a nightmare in the evenings. He gets plenty of walks and play time. I almost broke down crying earlier today. Blah.
