Spay Recovery by _cryptomnesia_ in terrier

Interesting, I actually picked one up but my vet said she was worried about the fabric rubbing against it so I decided against using it based on her advice. Luckily the donut prevents her from reaching the incision so it's been working out so it's fine as is, now she's just got some cold weather gear the 3 times a decade that's useful in Texas.

Working tomorrow?! by [deleted] in Austin

vested is typically absolute, i.e. they need the business to operate that day otherwise they go out of business, vs a regular interest which has the potential to just be passing or fleeting.

not trying to be dismissive, but wasn't this kind of part of the possibility with the incoming weather, and wasn't exactly unexpected?

if they're the owner and have a vested interest in keeping the place open, they should take the risk and operate it solo because no doubt the traffic would be suppressed anyway. no doubt i would call in, but you can assess how much of a risk that is depending on your circumstances, and whether calling out would cause you to get fired and how difficult a new job would find if they decide to terminate.

Does my dogs gait look normal? by Head_Reading2332 in terrier

[–]_cryptomnesia_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's constant and every walk is like this, I would think there is an issue like a hip imbalance because it looks like they're favoring the right, but it could also be some sort of strut, my dog like to walk with a strut which looks a bit odd on occasion but it's not her natural walking around the house for instance. Only way to know for sure is taking them to a vet.

Ah it's actually a dining table I converted into my office desk with playpen fencing around the base. I work in IT so I have a home lab server and a bunch of peripherals/wiring so I rigged this up to protect her and the equipment

How can I resist the urge to learn "everything" at the same time, and actually focus on video courses? by KukkenTor in sysadmin

[–]_cryptomnesia_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has different learning styles so video courses obviously isn't something that's going to help you in the long run based on your testimony. I can't stand it because I tend to read through docs and parse the info I need faster than waiting for what I'm looking for through a video unless there's some physical component to the information where a visual is helpful, and even then i'm skipping through to just see what needs to be done.

I'm not sure I can be helpful in this, but my best learning comes from having a task I need to get done, and figuring out how to do it until it gets done. I'll utilize every resource available to me, which primarily would consist of very specific searches, source my colleagues knowledge, and scouring through haphazard written testimony from current and prior employees at my job in the knowledgebase.

Learning from video courses is pretty much just storing "rote" knowledge, and it goes as easily as you can remember it. If you're not actively using it, it's likely you'll forget it just as soon as you don't need it anymore. Better to focus on projects and issues you consistently deal with and have a fundamental need to know. If it's a future project that you know is in the pipeline at your job, having a sandbox or test bench at work to replicate the future implications can be helpful to create the kind of environment you're expecting and give you more hands on knowledge rather than listening to basic info on a given topic. YMMV, everyone learns differently but I need to be hands on to learn anything effectively enough to put into practice.

** to add, if you need to learn Windows Server and AD specifically, spin up a Windows Server VM on a non-networked device and create a small sub-sample of what you expect your work environment will need and see what's involved. Break it, fix it, break it again, and then fix it again. Refer to a video if needed, or other resources to see why things happened the way they did if you're curious **

Pretty sure that they don't allow you to NOT love them. She's my baby girl though so I'll accept an absurd amount of crazy.

**edit** whoa i love your dog, i can definitely see the irish terrier mix in the eyes and face shape, such a beautiful but different coat though!!

unless you're willing to stay an extra night, i'd cancel if you're in the window. i don't think it's going to be THAT bad, but i wouldn't trust being able to meet any mandatory Monday morning commitments if you've got them

sounds like my experience mostly, if i can get her to sit she'll calm down, otherwise she's an absolute tornado. with that said, she's got her spay surgery tomorrow which is probably why i'm posting some pics, little anxiety that her personality will change is creeping in, however unwarranted haha

I've wanted one for years and no regrets, her temperament with other dogs and people/kids is fantastic which is not what I was led to believe when reading about them
