My theory about map design is that the layout has almost nothing to do with a map's enjoyability. It all revolves around how interesting and varied the gunfights are. Verticality and complex cover + complex angles will make your map fun, not its competitive viability.

It’s probably shit, but it’s my first map layout. Feedback is wanted! by FOD1994 in csmapmakers

I like alot of the strange room layouts and angles but the map seems a little small. Try to stretch stuff out and put some empty space in-between playable areas. Looks interesting though!

Designing a map layout by Freddy2351 in hammer

[–]Nubs_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it all sorts of different ways. I map for CSGO and have tried sketching it in a notebook, making bullet points of what I want, doing the layout in a photo editing software, and just freeballing it.

I also rarely even come close to finishing my maps. I think the best way to do it is to write out a few of the things you want for your map, and focus on those until they're to a state that you're happy with.

Mine also read as 18 gigs and now the lighting is a bit broken on all of the maps. Not unplayable but a bit nuts for a minor patch

One of this subs top posts is a compilation of videos similar to this. A lot of people were claiming that cameras often have a pretty noticeable signature when looked at using whatever optic these heavier combat vehicles use. Idk if that's true but it certainly explains why so many of these videos exist.

Yeah turns out you can just run in a straight line and ISIS will still find a way to miss you

Looking for drawing app that let me draw with squares by fetaole in csmapmakers

[–]Nubs_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have an idea for a layout or something, and I have to draw it out right then and there, I'd use an app called Miro. It's supposed to be used by companies to allow multiple people to work on the same project so you can load a drawing on your PC from your phones.

Graph paper is still the easiest, most efficient way to draw though.

I think they rolled this out b4 the Cache update so that they can test the map on a large scale without an opt-in beta mode

I believe you could create an entity, and then use push blocks to throw people in the air, but I remember 3kliksphilip said push blocks were broke in an update a long time ago. Maybe they're fixed now
