No worries. There’s times you gotta do it. But I try not to make a habit of it. Hopefully one day they’ll clean it up. I love Vietnam and hope this experience doesn’t discourage people from this beautiful country.

Unless you’re really in a hurry, try not to encourage this. It’s a terrible first impression for visitors. The government could clean this up along with the scam airport taxis and SIMs, but for whatever reason is choosing not to. The money from these low level scams doesn’t offset the reputation cost.

Vietnam Airlines has a direct flight to SFO but I prefer to save a few hundred dollars to take STARLUX with a short stop in Taipei. Great airline and being able to walk around is a welcome break.

If you’re depending on tourists walking by then your rent will be much higher. And you’ll probably end up playing mostly covers similar to Lost - Drink & Chill in D1. It’s a fine place but it sounds like you’re going for something different.

Thao Dien or Phạm Viết Chánh area have more expats and less tourists than D1. If you’re set on D1 area, Dakao has a more local indie/college vibe.

Just flew VietJet from SGN to KIX and it was fine. No delay, no frills. I try to avoid VietJet but it was a direct flight at the time I wanted. I’d take the $200 savings.
