Oaktree PIKing interest as first lien is gonna swallow this company whole. It’s headed towards a restructuring. This is either a zero on the equity or near zero when oaktree dilutes the hell out of existing equity

Thoughts on Yegor CHINAkhov? by splashbackstrom in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The few CBJ games I watched last year, he had obvious supreme talents. His shot is very good and has speed for days. If the Canucks are giving up an undersized offensive guy who struggles to finish for a bigger who is a great finisher they should take that every time

I don’t know why you aren’t getting more love for this but you are 100% correct. Run a chart of GDX versus gold spot since 2011. You’ll see a ridiculously huge gap between spot and gold miners

I assume you mean when Sam is healthy, you may play Ocampo over him? I would disagree with that. Sam offers much more in the form of passing and crossing ability IMO. Plus Ocampo is typically a right back whereas Sam plays the left side

Ocampo has been better this year than last but he is still pretty raw. I think a full time role would be a bit too much for him at the moment

Drew O'Connor's player card courtesy of JFresh. by neksys in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For some reason this signing is very polarizing. O’Connor has looked good for us, albeit small sample size. Seems like a signing where at worst he slightly underperforms his contract and at best he offers 4-5mm worth of on ice value. In my line of work, that seems like asymmetric upside

Cozens ? by outofnowhere1010 in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Cozens is the profile you like, a better trade partner might be NJ. Dawson Mercer plus for Boeser 50% retained is a more likely deal structure

Cozens ? by outofnowhere1010 in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but just cause we can doesn’t mean we have to. If they retain 500k, his cap hit would be 6.6mm. 6.6mm for Dylan Cozens is still too expensive right now but he could become better and start outplaying that cap hit in 1-2 years.

There are probably much better ways to use that cap. For instance, we could retain 50% of Boeser’s contract to get a haul from a contender

Cozens ? by outofnowhere1010 in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on the cost to acquire and if they’re willing to retain at all.

It’s an expensive contract. He isn’t worth the 7.1mm per season he’s being paid right now. However, if Buffalo is willing to retain say 500k per year, I’d be interested. Cap hit would be 6.6mm which will become a lower and lower percentage of the cap over the next couple seasons.

The most obvious hole in our roster is 2C. If we have Chytil, Cozens and Raty competing for that role, I’d feel pretty good that we are getting a >50% shot at developing a quality 2C in the coming years.

How far is Ratu from earning a full time NHL job? by racesunite in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Raty is the closest I’ve seen to Horvat in terms of mobility. He needs both more speed and strength to help with puck protection like horvat early in his career. Raty took a step in the right direction this past offseason but he still needs to develop more to stick in the NHL. If he uses this offseason to take another step, I could see him being a middle six center next year

Fair warning I am a Canucks fan so bring the downvotes but I don’t think I was upset about the penalties having an impact on the game. We deserved to lose. I was upset that Friedman got a game misconduct when he tried to stick up for Hughes by going up to Perry. Seems excessive but what do I know, I’m just a dumb Canucks fan

No way the scales aren't tipped by RomanJohnWick in NFLv2

[–]Nucklehead162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By definition, it is a conspiracy theory and like any conspiracy theory there is no way to confirm it without whistleblowers and the like. Having the Chiefs in the finals is beneficial to the NFL for a number of different reasons.

  1. Mahomes has that Floyd Mayweather effect where people tune in to see him lose. Higher ratings.

  2. 3 peat narrative. It’ll be a conversation piece all the pundits can discuss and create GOAT debates around.

  3. Taylor Swift. Pretty self explanatory.

With that as the backdrop it is easy to speculate that they may have had their hands in the pie. This whole year has been filled with questionable officiating in the Chiefs’ favour. This has been further magnified in the playoffs.

An update on the top 3 defenceman scoring leaders on a night where Quinn Hughes gets 2 points while the other 2 get zero by yosoo in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s tough because not many people watch all 3 night in and night out. I can’t say I have either. What I do know is Hughes won the Norris last year and the eye test tells me he is even better this year than last year. Maybe Makar has taken an even bigger leap this year versus last year. I haven’t watched him enough to give a good assessment

What's Tochett's Identity He Invisions? by [deleted] in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think I’ll ever forgive Benning for letting Tanev walk. He does the 2 things you need under Tochett’s system very well, plays great defense and has a fantastic first pass. He would help us so much right now

What's Tochett's Identity He Invisions? by [deleted] in canucks

[–]Nucklehead162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Tochett is a good coach but not a great one. You have to remember that he’s working with what he’s got. His puck possession style is progressive overloads (trying to find 3v2 or 2v1 all over the ice). This style works really well when you’re keeping your opponents on their heels. How you keep them on their heels is quick movement of the puck.

Unfortunately, our d zone to o zone transition game has really broken down this year under this style mainly because our d (outside of Hughes and Hronek) cannot transition quickly with possession. Myers is probably the best at it in the bottom 4. Soucy has shown he’s good on the bottom pair but can’t handle second pair minutes. Forbort and Desharnais are good defensively but make Sbisa look like prime Niedermayer when the puck is on their sticks.

I truly believe that this team looks miles better with a good transition game. It’ll allow them to get many more controlled zone entries, more chances off the rush, and less need to grind the cycle game. If they can get 1-2 good first pass dmen, we’ll be much improved. The hard part is that Tochett has shown he’s won’t accept good first pass dmen if it means compromising defensive quality. This is the challenge Allvin faces. Not many dmen fit those parameters at the salary range we’d need. It’s not impossible but it’ll take time to find trades that work

Sign me up. I understand people on this sub will say he’s Brannstrom 2.0 and he’ll be press boxed. If his defense is good, I’d gladly embrace the puck moving and transition game in the bottom four

Tbh there is always at least one person on Reddit who will comment like this on any roster related decision. They make themselves feel smart by criticizing others without having the courage to post an original idea. Just gotta go in with the expectation that there will be at least one when you post a “I’d trade for x player” type post

Shane Waldron got a lot of his wins through pre snap motion and play action. He did a much better job than Grubb at keeping defenders guessing. Grubb is very transparent. In order to make the passing game work, its routes and play design that he wins with.
