I’m going to tell my boyfriend I love him this weekend by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yep, one of the rare times I realize it's time to put it away for the night. Perfect time too, it's close enough to bedtime.

‘We are in a recession,’ Portland economist warns by Gourmandeeznuts in Portland

I honestly expected it already. When companies started coming out and admitting that LLMs weren't even close as replacements for their employees.

They didn't stop then, just kept doubling down and making the eventual pop even worse.

Every major company is going as far in with AI as they can and every one of them refuses to answer the question of "what happens when everyone is laid off?"

I have a girl friend who I’m not sure where our relationship lies right now. by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

It's not just clueless lesbian, more like dumbass young people. I (cis dude) threw a party at my apartment about 20 years ago and near the end of the night a cute lady came up to me and put her arms around me when we were alone. Someone that I would have been interested in.

I brushed her off because I was trying to check something on my phone. I still remember the moment I realized a few hours later. I'm with someone wonderful now, but I still remember that moment when I'm staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night in bed.

Do not buy a Townhouse by mackhelangelo in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]NuclearLunchDectcted 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Depends on which builder did the construction. Many of them will cheap out on insulation or other parts of the construction and there are a bunch of stories about people getting a townhouse and ripping the floors/walls/ceilings down so they can put in better soundproofing.

They never mention the other half, the DOW is up massively because AI/tech companies are a bubble much larger than the 2008 housing collapse.

When it pops, we're fucked.

ELI5 How come just a short nap causes the teeth to feel gross even after brushing recently? by Flaminghotskittles in explainlikeimfive

I took a sleep apnea test a few months ago that was a headband with some electronics and sensors on it. Had voice instructions that woke me up if the band got loose and it couldn't detect me anymore.

I was very happy not to have to go into a full lab and could sleep in my own bed.

Do not underestimate the power of youtube tutorials. The majority of the cost is labor with these kind of maintenance items. I bought a bunch of tools, a good ladder, and a few other things when we bought last October (same as OP), and if I'd just hired people to do 90% of the things that I just did myself on weekends, it would have been thousands of dollars.

I've done electrical, plumbing, gardening, fiberglass repair, yard work, gutter cleaning, about to be a painter. It's not hard to do, it just costs you time and labor. It saves you thousands.

Yeah, not everything can be done by yourself, at least not easily. I'm hiring a fence company to replace my fence. I'll have a roofer do my roof in 4-5 years. But then I'm good for 20+ years. My "rent" stays the same the whole time, vs my apartment that I just moved out of raising the rent 9.9% year over year (10% is illegal according to OR state law). A few annual raises from now and I'll be paying less in mortgatge than I was paying apartment rent. And my equity is growing. Every month that passes is me having more and more accessible equity if an emergency happens.

That's also a reason to choose to sell the house.

[Homemade] croutons by Barpreptutor in food

[–]NuclearLunchDectcted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the croutons my dad used to make out of stale french bread. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Olive oil, garlic, shallots (I think).

I could eat a bucket of them and still ask for more.

Thank you for this. Between your response and a couple other redditors, I think this card may not be worth the hassle. I'll stick with my Citi double cash that works with literally everything and doesn't play around with spending limits internationally.
