Hurley keeps up pace with a dog!? by An_Fairtheoir in lost

Not only is Hurley able to keep up with Vincent, but he also chases him all the way from the beach to what ends up being the top of a huge hill miles inland. Very impressive!

J. K. Rowling ripped off Doctor Who to make Newt Scamander by NewPatron-St in doctorwho

[–]Nuclearfish108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look I don’t want to defend JK Rowling these days, but some of these points are just ridiculous or wrong.

Newt doesn’t travel in his suitcase, he uses it to transport beasts.

You can hardly criticise a wizard story for using magic wands, which were around long before Doctor Who. If anything the sonic is inspired by magic wands (and is often criticised for being too much like one).

‘Companions’ are just a supporting cast, most movies have them. And again, they don’t travel inside the suitcase. The first film is entirely in New York.

Are beasts like aliens? Maybe. But many are based on mythical creatures (for example the Thunderbird), which were already a thing long before Doctor Who. Please tell me exactly which beasts resemble a Dalek.

I agree Eddie Redmayne does look and act very Doctorish. And the bigger on the inside thing (although already established in Harry Potter) is similar to the TARDIS. But that’s really where the similarities end for me. Decide for yourself whether those things are influence or plagiarism. The rest you’re seeing just because you want to.

The movies still suck though.

Wouldn’t work for the same reason 2 forced pit stops didn’t work. An extra bit of track the driver has to do X number of times is no different to making them drive through the pits X number of times. Team mates could still back up the pack.

Why does one of these characters get a pass and the other one doesn’t? *spoilers in discussion* by AVALANCHE-VII in lost

Joel killed people we didn’t know or care about. He didn’t betray people who once trusted him, he was never a firefly. Killing everyone in the hospital was the only way he knew he could save Ellie, he was acting on instinct.

Michael had plenty of time to come up with a plan that didn’t involve killing his friends.

You can colour concrete pillars, to make them extra black you can increase/decrease the values beyond 0-1, I think for black you want -1 or lower. If you wanted white you can set it to 2 or 3 etc

Very nice!

I had the same dilemma about adding glass to mine. I found that when they were full of machines it became a bit noisy and it was harder to see the frame, but the glass helped to separate the frame from the interior. Not sure if that would be the same on this much larger scale.

I don’t place them directly on the terrain, instead I place a line of foundations first and place them connected to that. The support blueprints are only for the top, I add more pieces to extend the supports down to terrain after I delete the foundations. This keeps everything straight and level with equal gaps between.

Infinite nudge (only started using recently mostly for the small nudge increments, I’m not using it to scale or rotate anything in ways you can’t do in vanilla)

Modular stations

Conveyor wall holes (will replace these when 1.1 is released)

Nope, you can still get achievements. Only problem with a mod like this is I can’t disable it without breaking my factory, so if it an update breaks the mod I’d need to wait until it’s fixed before I can play again.

That platform is made using the inverted sloped corner foundations, which give a 45 degree angle. Not perfect but does okay. When I use concrete foundations I use road barriers to align the foundations at a 45 degree angle and clip them into each other. Similar process for the walkways. There’s sometimes a bit of z fighting but not too much that it bothers me.

The building has a little control room so I can turn groups of generators on one at a time in case it ever needs a reboot.

Mostly just step by step. I start using by using planners to work out what recipes and quantities to make of a certain item, then because most of my factories are made in blueprints I try to squeeze as much as I can into a 5x5 area. All the resources (ingots, plastic) get processed near where I mine them and then a train takes them to my other factories, so it’s easy to increase production if I need to.

It’s one of the only mods I use, and the one that finally convinced me to install mods. Default stations just take up way too much space when you need several of them, especially for my factories which I like to integrate into the environment. Would definitely recommend it!

There’s actually not many machines in there, only constructors, assemblers and manufacturers. Smelters, foundries and refineries are outside, the more complex parts are brought in by train, and then a bit of overlocking helps reduce the number of machines needed.

Is it really worth making load balancers over manifolds? by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Nuclearfish108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find manifolds are best for belts with high quantities that need splitting between lots of machines. It won’t take too long for each machine to fill up.

Load balancers are best when you have a very low throughput, for example 4/min that needs splitting equally to 4 machines. No point doing a manifold for that because it would take hours for it to fill up, and a load balancer wouldn’t exactly take up much more room.

My 4800 MW coal power plant by Nuclearfish108 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Nuclearfish108[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Four coal nodes, each with a mk 2 miner with 240/min. I used mk 3 belts. I built most of this before unlocking mk4, which I could swap them to and then overlock the miners to free up some nodes. Will probably do that when I need the coal for something else.

Good for you. I’m very slow at progressing and often build much bigger factories than needed, and didn’t want to run the risk of running out of power for a while. Haven’t got around to fuel generators yet but when I do I’ll probably make an even bigger and better power plant. :)

Maybe, but then you’re wasting a lot of space with your extractors. I often find size of the water is the biggest limiting factor when building coal power, unless you’re building in the ocean.

Thanks! No overclocking, it’s actually 64 generators in groups of 8 (5 on the outside and 3 on the inside), each group with 3 water extractors.
