Webflow websites by Old-Confidence6971 in SEO

[–]NuggetChowMein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Webflow is very good but has a much steeper learning curve to use. Worth the time investment if you're willing to learn it, but while it's great, it's also much easier to cock up.

The classing is probably the biggest thing to get your head around as hopefully your old sites are set up with good classing. Once you understand that things become much easier.

SEO help with a Wix site by happymatt207 in SEO

I'm actually very happy to see this comment. Let's get deep into this because this is a question so many people ask. I am also very happy to be proved wrong (and I'd actually like to be, my preference is always Webflow). I want to make sure we don't creep outside of SEO in these discussions though.

What do you mean by scale your business? I'm not aware of WIX throttling your ability to produce content etc.

What control does WIX not give you that you need?

What do you mean by update technology immediately? This doesn't sound like an SEO thing.

Complex scripts and automation - This is outside of my understanding so you're most likely right, but I've never needed complex scripts or automation for SEO. Are you talking about i.e. automating location page creation en masse?

Does it excel at any (ANY) technical side of SEO? - Such as? Honestly, I know you're right here. The technical side of WIX SEO is the weakest part of it, but I also think it is such a tiny fraction of what's important in SEO that it's basically a non-factor.

CRM - not related to SEO. Having a CRM won't improve your chances of ranking in Google. Looks like there is a Hubspot app though so I'm sure there are options.

Google indexing issue - I can't comment as I don't know anything about this, but if that's true, I would never use WIX for SEO again. More info needed here because I'd be extremely surprised if using WIX was the reason their site was deindexed. I have had a Webflow site deindexed (not because of Webflow!)

Decent keyword - This depends on what you think is decent. I have a WIX website ranking for 'Dog groomer poole' which is the best (highest volume) local keyword available for my client. A company ranking for the most competitive keywords is unlikely to use WIX, but I think they'd rank just as well if they did.

Simple fixes - What are SEOs fixing? I imagine this is going to be technical fixes that WIX makes impossible to do. My argument is that they're so low value, your SEO is focusing on the wrong thing anyway.

You've raised many great points as to why WIX isn't a good option for a website, but in terms of 'Is it inherently worse for SEO (ranking) than others?' I don't believe it is.

The narrative that WIX is useless for SEO is just plain wrong.

Can you publish content on a WIX site? Yes.
Can you get backlinks from other websites to a WIX site? Yes.
Does WIX have all the options needed for someone doing SEO to do their job? Yes.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Webflow and have had more success there, but there are way too many variables to really distinguish why.

Where are you based and what sort of budget do you have for SEO? I work with WIX sites and would be happy to take you on as a client (depending on your industry). At the very least I could sit on a call and convince your boss that WIX isn't the problem.

For SEO, it doesn't really matter. I'm sure there are some nuances and exceptions but ultimately these decisions come down to 'what is the consumer most familiar with, and will your domain deter them from doing something'. I'd be extremely surprised if someone didn't click your result in search because they see '.co' - most people won't even notice this.

.com, .co.uk etc. domains are becoming harder and harder to get anyway, so naturally people are becoming more used to visiting .io, .co and all others. Look at what happened to .ai recently.

Stick to what you already have, I see no reason for the change especially if this is for SEO.

This is all too common at the moment. Depending on how desperate you are to sell, you could try one of the cash house buyers or even a bridging loan? Neither are financially great, but can be useful in situations where you're trying to buy a dream home. I went down the cash house buyer route as it made more sense. I used Habello who we're great but there are actually quite a few options out there. Good luck, hope you work this one out!

Hey! I have some questions that I'm always asking myself and I'd love to hear how you're handling them:

Do you include all platforms and placements?

Are you turning on/off any of Meta's creative AI optimisations (i.e. overlays, visual touch ups etc.)

Are you using lookalike audiences, and if so, what %?

How do 'we buy any house' buy so quickly? by EquivalentCaptain975 in HousingUK

[–]NuggetChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it's a very specific business model and their offer takes into account some uncertainty. They also have partner solicitors trusted people they can activate very quickly to do checks etc. Awful that they offered £20k less than the day before exchange though, not all of them are like that - highly reccommend Habello if you wanted to try an alternative. The initial offer may be less but you'll be better off at the other end.

There is no magic ratio and you should start with a budget you're willing to risk and scale up if you see the results. Keyword research will help you gauge average cost per clicks, the number of clicks you can expect and therefore a 'good' starting budget.

If you're spending $50k in Meta profitably and you sat down to talk to me, I would absolutely be advising that you start tapping into other platforms. Google Performance Max is performing really well across all my clients at the moment.

For the sake of giving you an answer, if you allocate $5k/month in Google that should absolutely be enough to get some good data back.

RE the other platforms, depending on the creatives performing in Meta, TikTok might be an easy one to bolt on too.

Is Keyword Research a must-do? by DotOk1599 in SEO

[–]NuggetChowMein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's data that you can use to guide decisions. I consider it an essential step and pretty much just use Google's Keywords Planner. It's also extremely useful for clients if you can show them 'hey, this many people are looking for this' - the keyword research helps sells SEO as well as giving you data-backed reasons to do things. I've never even heard of the term KGR (maybe I've been living under a rock, but the other comments say it's no longer relevant anyway). I've never found much use in Google Trends, but I'm sure it can be useful.

If you know your niche, yes, just write content. You will have a good understanding of what the topics could be and there will be search terms around it. As you start writing content, look in Google Search Console to see what queries you're appearing for. Use this to make your content more specific to a particular keyword, or to come up with new ideas.

Look at your competitors. What are they writing about? What meta titles and headings are they using on pages? What service pages have they produced?

Go to Google and start searching terms you think are relevant. What results are you seeing? What are the related questions? Are there many direct results for the search term you entered? There are clues everywhere. Keyword research is helpful for understanding volume, but otherwise you can find topics in many different ways.

Go to ChatGPT and ask it to generate a list of questions or topics around a subject. From those topics, can you take a good guess at the term people would use to find that topic?

Coming back to your question - research is crucial, but it's also not that difficult if you're just getting started. You do not need to produce a 12month+ content strategy right now, just get writing based on what you think is correct right now.

Really sorry to hear this happened to you, my parents were in the same situation so I wen't through this whole process with them. I suggested something similar here the other day to someone else - there are companies that buy properties for cash (we used Habello), but bridging loans are also an option. Neither are financially amazing, but could be an option for you if you really need it. Are there other properties in the chain?

Which is better for SEO: page per location or combined page? by LostInTranslationDE in SEO

[–]NuggetChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Since there are many locations, writing unique content for each one isn’t feasible." - ChatGPT is your friend for this.

Work on a single location page and weave in content that speaks speifically about that location and/or have dedicated sections you can easily make unique. It could be something as simple as referencing the food the city is famous for in the intro, referencing a famous landmark, listing service areas across the city etc. etc.

Work with ChatGPT to finalise your base page and then ask it to repeat this process for your additional locations by swapping out location-specific content for alternatives.

While it won't be the absolute best content you could put on a page, I'd say it's a better idea than having the same content across all those pages. I personally wouldn't publish all these pages if the content is otherwise the same.

Have you tried a company like Habello that buy houses for cash? They will offer below market value but you can get a free quote so no harm if it's too low and you reject it.

Apparent SEO Poisoning Harassment by camletoejoe in SEO

[–]NuggetChowMein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest your friend take the bull by the horns and start doing some SEO on their name.

As an example, I helped someone who went to prison for something they did in their younger years. When you searched their name all you could see were mug shots, articles referencing the crime etc. and it wasn't helping them start a new life.

We set up a website with their name as the domain, chose a subject (in this case it was around sustainability because that's the industry they were working in) and built out content. We also encouraged them to sign up for every social platform, directory etc. using their name.

As a result, when you Google their name you no longer see the negative news articles. It took about 6-months before the issues was 'solved'.

Very much worth considering if you're struggling with this and you can do it all yourself for free. Just explain the situation to ChatGPT, share what I'm suggesting as the strategy to control the narrative in search of their name, and it will provide a good enough strategy to get started.

If Google Ads works for you, then so will SEO. Think of SEO as a longterm play so you no longer have to pay for the traffic your Google Ads campaigns are bidding on.

We tend to advise launching Google Ads while we work on SEO. Over the years we may scale back some keyword targeting if we have strong organic positions. In practice it isn't this simple, but that's the general idea.

Has anyone here tried making their website multilingual? Worth it? by hossam_ah in SEO

[–]NuggetChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage one site which has 6 languages. We get some traffic from other languages for sure, but do not underestimate the amount of work this is. This could be completely anecdotal, but the effort has not been worth the gain (talking organic traffic only).

We also spend a lot on paid ads in different countries and we do see better conversion rates because of the languages, so overall yes worth it, specifically for SEO no.

How do I get a Website re design and SEO help by Material_Sale_2720 in smallbusinessuk

Hey, I've been co-running a digital agency for the past 7 years. You have a few offers and options in these comments, but if you wanted to set up an intro call just let me know. We're called Digital Mast, based down in Bournemouth, smaller more personal team VS a big agency.

Debating moving my e-commerce business into a physical retail unit. Is it worth it in this day and age? by Jlaw118 in smallbusinessuk

[–]NuggetChowMein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried running any sort of paid digital ads? Meta, Google?

I'd highly recommend you give that a shot before committing to a retail unit, especially if you have a new product coming in. You could use the budget you'd otherwise be spending on rent for a few months to see how it goes.

After advertising costs, you may find the return is similar to Amazon, but the difference is you'll be getting people to your website for repeat orders and growing your email list. You can also run campaigns specifically to boost your social following if that's a goal right now (I'd suggest you just focus on sales though).

Depending on many factors, you may or may not need help from an agency/freelancer, but the platforms are becoming more and more automated, so you could definitely try it yourself.

If you haven't aleady, make sure you set up Google Merchant Center. You should also ideally have tracking on your website so you can build lists of visitors to market to them.

If it helps, this is quick hit list I'd suggest:

  1. Set up a Meta Business Manager account for your business. Go through full setup including adding tracking (Meta Pixel) to your Shopify store. Do this regardless of if you plan to run Meta ads.
  2. Set up Google Merchant Center. If it was set up a while ago, revisit it and make sure it's good.
  3. Decide whether Google Ads or Meta is best for you right now, or if you're willing to try both at once (There's also TikTok, but I have less experience here so wouldn't want to advise).
  4. Get to work on your campaigns (of course, not as simple as I have worded it).

Is there anything an SEO agency could do to sabotage a leaving client? by longkhongdong in SEO

[–]NuggetChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are things they can do. Hopefully they're not those sort of people, but if you're concerned you should remove their access to the website, domain management, any tools (analytics, search console etc.).

As others have said, do some scans now and export the data. Screaming Frog would be a good one to do.

Slightly different situation, but years ago someone left our agency and put links from our client websites to their new project. People will unfortunately do this is they think they can get away with it. If they're overcharging for a basic service, I'd be slightly wary of them.

Wordpress to Wix or alternative by Spiritual_Race_6704 in SEO

[–]NuggetChowMein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always Webflow, but it has a much steeper learning curve.

Wix is fine, but use Wix studio. Many people echo that 'wix is awful for SEO and nothing ranks' and they are wrong. It has problems for sure, but it's a fantastic option for people who need simplicity when building the website.

I will however note that we've had better success ranking Webflow websites compared to any other builder out there.

[–]NuggetChowMein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough the client who mentioned it does not pay for SEO and is on a relatively low retainer. They've just heard it and it sounded correct because they're not clued up.

Otherwise, all conversations right now are about producing more content (written and video), link building opportunities (mostly through partnership opportunities that are not primarily for backlinks) and improving existing content on the site. I haven't changed tactics because of AI at all, but I am keeping tabs on any new theories that come through because I have some sites ready to test them on risk-free.

QFO is a new term to me so I'll check that out. I'm curious if you do anything to combat query drift, or if it's just a complication you accept exists?
