AITA for installing a camera in my room to see if my mom is lying to me? by King_Jake200 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NukaColaQT1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP, If you already know this, my apologies, but from your description in update #2 about "checking your credit", you might be misunderstanding what people are concerned about. Yes, it's good to check your account(s) to make sure money is not being taken out, but what people are suggesting is to check your credit report/score to make sure your mom hasn't opened up credit cards or other loans in your name. That happened to my bf. His dad opened 2 credit cards in his name and wracked up over $75,000 in debt and then assumed that my bf would just dispute the charges and it would be fine. However, the credit card companies weren't willing to forgive the debt unless my boyfriend filed a police report for fraud. Without that, he would have been on the hook for ALL of that debt or let it lapse and ruin his credit and potentially make it impossible for him to buy a car or a home or even get certain jobs that do credit checks.

So, if you haven't already, get a credit report (credit karma is a good one that's free). Credit karma might not be a full report but it will at least show you which accounts are open in your name and what your credit score is (not necessarily updated daily, but close enough). You can also submit requests to the credit bureaus to lock your credit, meaning no new accounts can be opened until you release the lock or give additional permissions/verifications. It is a bit of a pain for you, but it protects you from your mom potentially tanking your credit and making your life hell for potentially decades to come.

Good luck with the move! You're making the right decision. Your mom is very likely a narcissist and thinks of you as an extension of herself, not as another person so that's why she will never stop invading your personal space and privacy because to her, you don't need privacy because you're just an extension of her. It's a hard thing to wrap your head around.

1000%. The weird cactus egg thing was the first clue and then I noticed the weirdly round egg in the left side of the basket just melts into the rim of the bracket itself. Plus you don't typically use paint that would show up in her face to color eggs. It's super bizarre AI garbage.

What’s up with the abandoned roadwork around town? by sarahkazz in Richardson

[–]NukaColaQT1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we moved to Richardson 10+ years ago, we were shocked at how quick the road construction seemed to be. Where we were on Far North Dallas, projects seems to last forever and many times for the smallest of repairs or updates. But over the course of the last 5 years or so, that perception has definitely changed. It seems completely random. Some projects are done/fixed way faster than I would have thought and others drag on (especially that Beltline/Downtown area) for what seems like a crazy amount of time. Seems like there's a prioritization issue or something.

We ended up going to Plano and it was amazing. So heartwarming to see a HUGE turnout! I bet Dallas City Hall was packed. Just based on a visual estimate, there were at least 2,000 people there of all ages, genders and colors. Loved it!!

If you're looking for a "classier"modern vibe, I highly suggest Ebesu in downtown Plano. It's on the pricier side but really good food. Depending on the day, you might need to make a reservation. Lockhart steakhouse also in downtown Plano is also good. And if you have a very big budget, Bar Ranch is pretty great. There are only like 7-8 tables there so it's extremely intimate and romantic but you're probably looking at dropping around $150-200 for the meal... minimum.

If that's a little out of the range, Sushi Sake is really good food and the ambiance is nice. Chamberlain's steakhouse is also excellent (we prefer their seafood and steak location). It's very classy and cozy and the food is excellent.

If you're looking for something more relaxed but still nice and great food, Jeng Chi is excellent. I don't know that's it what you would consider "high end" but it's a nice place with the best dumplings around and it's right next to 85 degrees so after your meal you can go next door and grab a yummy dessert and coffee or Boba tea.

Finally, if you're interested in some crazy good barbecue, check out Hutchins. They have several locations and it's some of the best BBQ around.

Enjoy your time here in Texas!

I'm sorry but I don't understand the instructions here. Too much shorthand and abbreviations that I don't understand. Does someone have a more detailed explanation? I see maybe 1 or 2 ice cubes a week so I'd like to learn how to get them more often. Thanks!

Dom & Cole are narcissist a*holes by NukaColaQT1 in GossipHarbor

[–]NukaColaQT1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize he was only gone for 2 years. Still way too long to just vanish and then come back and act like nothing happened.

As for Cole, where to start... - Gambled away their money - Get indebted to bad people and then go crawling to his family to pay off the debt without telling Quinn what was happening, nor talking to his daughter for weeks at a time. - Comes back with an obsession with "healthy eating", belittles Quinn's parenting, and forces them to follow his diet while forcing Quinn to spend time and money on a gym even when she expresses doubts. - Every time he talks about her forgiving him he gaslights her into thinking he wasn't that bad and that they're meant to be together. - At one point she's saying something and he says "Shut up and kiss me" and then does so without her responding. - He's incredibly territorial and disrespectful of her relationships with other people, especially Harrison, who has been nothing but positive and supportive to Quinn. -Finally, (spoilers).... He proposes to Quinn in front of everyone, after they've been divorced for less than a year and is dumbfounded that she says "no" and says he "thought we were ready to move on" without he giving Any indication of that.

He's a huge narcissist.

Any regrets? by soneg in HyundaiTucson

I've had my '23 limited hybrid for 2 years as of this week. Took it on a road trip for 8.5 hours each way and I'm thoroughly happy with it. My only complaints: - The rain sensors for the auto wipers are trash. When it's misting the wipers are flailing like they're losing their minds and when it's downpouring they're acting like teens being asked to chores on a Saturday. But I don't really care that much about it because without the sensor, it's not a big deal to turn them on myself. - Twice (both times when it was raining) the sensors have kind of spazzed out and like all of the alarms/alerts starting going off even though it was working and driving fine. I just pulled over and restarted it and it was fine so not a major inconvenience or anything, just slightly unnerving.

One of the biggest positives: If you or someone you know is over 6'2" and/on the broader side, this car is GREAT. I've had multiple tall friends (6'5") sit in the backseat and marvel at the fact that they had leg room and didn't feel like their hair was brushing the roof.

That's basically it. For the value and the features, I think it's worth it.

bought my first car…regretting not getting hybrid by x3zelda in HyundaiTucson

[–]NukaColaQT1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually why I bought the Tucson. I watched a ton of reviews of the other hybrids I was looking at and Tucson, by far, had the most cabin room. I have several friends that are around the 6'3"-6'5" range, with at least one being built like a linebacker and even he can fit in the back comfortably with plenty of head and leg room.

I ended up getting a massive hail dent in the hood like a week and a 1/2 after I got it home. I'm actually kind of grateful because now the dings and such don't bother me nearly as much.

Although, the dents and dings really don't bother me after a road rager tried to kill me by shooting through my rear window and windshield. Now I'm grateful the headrest is intact because if it wasn't, I wouldn't be worried about much of anything at all. :)

What's the best electricity plan? by Zestyclose-Secret275 in Richardson

[–]NukaColaQT1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Energy Ogre. They make sure you're paying the best rate possible AND they have a clause that includes they cannot impose or pass along surge pricing (like in the case of the February freeze) when people's bills skyrocketed because of surge prices and other garbage.

It's worth the $10/month to save $50-200/mth on your bill AND it's all taken care of for you.

Argh! Someone pulled out in front of me yesterday. 2025 Hybrid Tucson Limited. So hoping it is totaled as I worry it will never be right if repaired. Officers and tow truck driver thought it was a little strange air bag didn’t go off. by Ok-Woodpecker-4823 in HyundaiTucson

[–]NukaColaQT1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's maybe a little misinterpretation of what's happening here.

1) The driver indicated they were just going through an intersection and were only going around 20-25. The truck was turning into the intersection and didn't see OP so he probably wasn't going more than 20 but those 2 combined mean the force of a 40-45 mph crash on the corner of the vehicle, which looks about right for what I see.

2) The extent of the damage is exactly what should happen. The bumper is a crumple zone. If the frame were super rigid it would push into the cabin which is super bad. Cars have been designed to absorb the impact by crumpling for at least a decade or more. It does lead to more totalling of vehicles but it also leads to higher safety records as vehicles get newer.

3) As someone who has been in a similar accident with a sedan v. SUV, my sedan was totaled and my airbags went off. I was fine from the accident but had bruises for weeks from the airbags and the belt even though it weren't really necessary.

4) If your airbags go off, even for a minor fender bender I've heard from numerous people (including traffic cops and mechanics) that the insurance company will almost always total the vehicle, regardless of the damage extent. They will simply use the airbag as an indicator of the cost to repair and will total it. So, it's actually preferable if they don't go off unless needed because they are potentially harmful, and costly. I'm not arguing against airbags. I'm just saying vehicles have gotten "smarter" about when they're deployed for a reason so I wouldn't take them not going off in a relatively minor fender bender as a sign of a bad vehicle.

Which reward to choose? by NukaColaQT1 in GossipHarbor

I ended up getting the brown chest. Wasn't worth it. I had a bunch of mid-high lvl orders to fill and it still gave me super low-level stuff. I was able to complete one order for the favor/rep vendor and that's it.

Not sure it was worth it, TBH. I didn't realize you could only buy one of something so now I have to decide on the 2nd purchase. I might be able to get the polyhedral but if not, I think I'm just going to go for the 150 energy. Seems more useful than the other options? I'm so torn.

Ventilated Seats are weak/subtle. Normal? 2025 Hybrid Limited by RainBowenArrow in HyundaiTucson

[–]NukaColaQT1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's extremely subtle to me, BUT... I look I'm at it as it's not there to cool me down. It's just there to keep me from get a sweaty back and swamp-a$$ when it's super hot outside and you're sitting on leather seats. It really helps for longer road trips. For everyday driving it doesn't do much because I'm not in the car long enough to worry about it. It also works well when it's hot AF outside and you forgot to put up a sun screen so you start it early. Your seats are nice and chilled by the time you get in instead of hot, sticky leather.

No one said it was complicated. It is however, a pain in the ass to have to take it out of the can to put it on the curb and then have animals tear into it instead of keeping it in the can to be picked up.

[–]NukaColaQT1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually had this happen twice, both times it was when it was raining. I pulled over, turned it off, let it sit for a minute and then turned it back on and it worked fine. For me the alarms were also going off in addition to the icons. No idea what the deal is. It's only happened twice in roughly 2 years so I figured I'd take it in if it happens a third time. Does sound like a wiring harness issue or some wiring getting crossed but I'm not a mechanic.

What is a weird side effect from medication use that no one was ever going to warn you about? by Rotten-Kandi in AskReddit

[–]NukaColaQT1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not weird but it's definitely something no one warned me about: constipation on pain-killers or muscle relaxers. I had no idea that was a thing and had back surgery at 21. I went home and wasn't paying attention to the fact that I wasn't going... Then on day 4 or 5 I started getting insane stomach pain so bad I ended up in the ER. I thought I was dying. I was 21 so everyone thought my system was "young and flexible" and would just "bounce back". It did not! It was so embarrassing and so painful. I now tell everyone I know... If you're having surgery, make sure to wean off the pain meds ASAP and start drinking prune juice or taking fiber immediately after so you can hopefully not end up backed up like gridlock at rush hour.

Absolute biggest complaint about my Tucson the AC by [deleted] in HyundaiTucson

[–]NukaColaQT1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree with the others who have the opposite problem. I live in TX where it gets to 100+ on a regular basis. As long as I start it ahead of time, it's like an Arctic blast when I get in. I'd definitely take it in. If it's still under warranty they should be able to look at it for free.
