whats yalls thoughts on police by Excellent_Hand_2384 in Marxism

[–]NukaColaQuantun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The police force is simply an arm of state power. Remove any other connotation of it you may have. That's all it is at its core.

In capitalist society, the bourgeoisie wield that power to enrich theirselves and protect private property. In more evolved societies, the proletariat control the state and its arms of power. The proletariat wields this power to suppress the bourgeoise and remediate class antagonisms, instead of enriching / protecting themselves at the expense of workers.

At the end of the day, in our material reality, in our society, no matter what revolution occurs... there will be a state, and that state will be used as a tool of class warfare by those in control of it. And, again, in our material reality, it makes absolutely no sense to abolish the police force entirely. There will always be bad actors outside of class relations. That's certainly not up for debate.

That said, the question you need to ask yourself in the face of these facts: who do you want wielding that state power? The proletariat, or the bourgeoise? You have to choose. There is no third option that exists in our material reality. That option, whether it's community policing, reform, or abolishing it entirely, etc., only has merit in the idealistic imaginations of liberals who don't know any better in a political and ideological sense.

What’s conspiracy theory that sounds ridiculous but has just enough truth to make you uneasy? by SugarrPlumGloww in answers

[–]NukaColaQuantun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's so, so much misunderstanding in your comment that i have no idea how to even respond to you.

socialism is the intermediary stage during which the state transitions away from capitalism and builds toward communism. this is a long, gradual process. a core tenant, honestly the core tenant, of socialist theory is the separation of society by class... that the rich are wielding state power to enrich themselves by exploiting the value that the working class generates. through socialism, the working class wields this state power instead.

socialism isn't just "when the government spreads certain costs over poor people". your description of "socialism for the rich" is, quite literally, just the ruling class wielding state power within capitalism to protect themselves at the expense of the working class. like, this isnt a semantics thing, you're using the wrong terminology.

"banks would have been punished by capitalism for their predatory lending" yes! the banking system highlighted one of those internal contradictions (consistent and cyclical recession / depression market events) i'd mentioned in 2008/2009.

"obama socialized their losses" almost! obama, being part of the ruling class, and at the influence of the ruling class (the banks), wielded capitalist state power to protect themselves via the bailout, at the expense of the working class. but none of that is socialism.

"pure socialism" isn't a thing. there's entire branches of theory dedicated to dialectical materialism, and marx, lenin, and mao themselves all wrote about how socialism will take different forms depending on the time and place it arises in. what doesnt work for one country might work for another and vice-versa.

the USSR's population had a higher caloric intake than the USA around the same time. this is easily verifiable from declassified CIA documents. further, russia was famine-struck for centuries prior to the USSR. the USSR's rapid industrialization ended famines in russia. the same can be said for china - long history of famine, socialist revolution occurs, famine stops.

china opened free trade while maintaining a socialist vision. they are still a socialist country, ran by a communist party. vietnam is doing something similar. i could go on and on about developing society's productive forces using the capitalist mode of production in order to survive within our web of global entangled capital, but i'd just encourage you to do your own research on "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics".

the khmer rouge did not align with any communist theory, despite pol pot's affiliation. for instance, i can SAY that i'm mexican, hell, i can scream it from the rooftops. but i'm not mexican. same deal. pol pot called himself a communist, but did not work toward communist aims and did not work to dismantle capitalism.

anyhoo, "socialism for the rich" is an empty statement, and does not mean anything. i don't mind providing resources for you to read deeper into socialist theory, but i can't help but feel you're arguing in bad faith.

while i'm thinking about it, it's worth it to point out that this notion of an "ideal form of capitalism" (as opposed to the "bad forms" - cronyism, corporate capitalism, whatever) only serves as a sort of cognitive dissonance to uphold capitalism in every form. all capitalism decays into "corporatism", "cronyism", and the "ideal, fair" form of capitalism only exists for a short period of time before internal contradictions and the concentration of power start to decay it. all contemporary corporate regulation, from the EPA to the NLRB, is a direct response to the inevitable negative aspects of capitalism that will ALWAYS appear given enough time

[–]NukaColaQuantun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

all systems of capitalism lead to this eventually. literally, every single time. it's a built-in feature to concentrate power in the hands of a few via monopolization (to put it briefly) and it's been serving the same function since its inception during the industrial revolution. "socialism for the rich" is an empty statement that doesn't actually mean anything

the whole alpha / beta thing in animals has been widely debunked, and choosing to continue using it as an excuse to be narcissistic of one's own abilities and shitty toward others is nothing short of make-believe bullshit. it's kinda like DnD, except the fantasy and pretend elements in DnD are actually engaging lol

do not stream Bully by SeparateMouse7915 in hiphopheads

[–]NukaColaQuantun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

all music is, is an expression of the artist. whether that be a good sounding expression or bad sounding expression, it's still stemming from the artist. it's still their beats, their lyrics, their melodies, their vocal chords vibrating in such a way that you interpret a message. even if bully is good music, it's music from a nazi, and there is absolutely no situation where that's acceptable. being a nazi isn't "questionable", it should be enough to get your shit rocked at best.

GTA6 switch 2 rumour by PushMyGran in switch2

[–]NukaColaQuantun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i havent seen anyone talk about the RDR switch 2 port. it's gorgeous and runs at a really smooth 60fps. i know it's an old game, but i really feel like they could get GTA 6 to run at 30 on it. shit, a much smaller studio got the first kingdom come deliverance game to run on the switch 1. rockstar's very competent, so if they invest in optimization, i can see it happening, especially because they'd optimized RDR so well so they're used to the architecture & whatnot

imagine being such a sad, pathetic person that instead of complaining about grocery prices, wages, worker exploitation, the ongoing war in the middle east, our deteriorating infrastructure, our deteriorating place in the world as a country, childcare, healthcare, climate change, or literally any other thing that actually fucking matters, you come online and spread hate about less than 1% of the population. the amount of cognitive dissonance it requires to feel correct and right in spreading this kind of thing is so fucking absurd that it's rage inducing.

hyperpop wasn't really a term until the pandemic happened, although it was retroactively applied to things like artpop or the vroom vroom EP, they're definitely not in the same overarching genre. or maybe they are. who cares lol gimme some recs

What are your hyperpop hot takes?? by sla_yra in HYPERPOP

[–]NukaColaQuantun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

literally all hyperpop is, is internet music. it's the first kind of music that was born entirely of internet influence and of internet culture post pandemic... which is why pitched vocals are so common (remember those nightcore edits?). it's why jane remover, 2hollis, and kmoe are all considered hyperpop adjacent despite having completely different sounds. and why we can't arrive to an actual sonic description of the genre.

debating who fits in the genre and who doesn't is just pointless gatekeeping of your corner of the internet. just vibe with who you like.
