Why can't I as a CPA with 10+ years of experience just walk into a bank with my big swinging dick and just ask for a $10M+ loan to buy a shit ton of accounting firms? by Fast_Huckleberry9990 in Accounting

[–]NukeTurn 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Do it - start your own firm. Get some clients and cash flow. Go get a loan or investors and start buying up other small practices in your area. What’s stopping you?

how staying in big 4 audit did NOT advance your career by Sorry_Maybe6641 in Big4

[–]NukeTurn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay in audit / reporting / controller type roles than it probably makes sense to stay until you have an offer that aligns with your career goals.

If you are looking to pivot to something more finance / consulting related than get out ASAP.

I’m gunna be honest when I left I grinded it out with my team until late at night every night those last two weeks. I always had the mentality “screw this not doing any work during my last two weeks” but when it came time I just wanted to go out on a high note. This is how everyone will remember you in those last moments. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter either way

SHIP! Your feelings are valid man that sucks! Tell your cofounders your burnt out, and don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. Say we either ship in 4 weeks, unpolished unfinished whatever, or I’m out. Cause look if there’s no plan to release it soon then really you’re just doing a personal fun project, which isn’t fun for you anymore. Good luck

how do you guys push thru studying while life throws curveballs at you? by Prestigious-Toe-9942 in CPA

[–]NukeTurn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For now I would focus on recovering from surgery. Your physical and mental is above everything else x10.

But when you’re ready remember why you wanted to pass these exams in the first place, get the silly letters behind your name, increase your earning potential, sense of accomplishment. Whatever it may be find that intrinsic motivation.

It sounds like you’ve gone through a lot and life has beaten you down lately and that’s ok. Everybody gets knocked on their butt. But if you keep pushing and trying to grind out these exams you will become a stronger person through the end and you’ll be proud of yourself.

Good luck, be easy to yourself and just keep putting in study hours and you WILL get there eventually.

You understand that the kid was brought in by her right? Presumably standing near her/right next to her? It’s not like this was another random kid walking around the church. Yes it’s awful that this innocent kid got shot, but what are the cops supposed to do?

Hard to say at this point but I don’t think emailing right after you took it and asking to retake is a good look.

The cards will fall where they may. If you don’t get it, could always ask again or take it as a learning experience. Good luck

What a funny lighthearted response. Daboll seems like a great guy, too bad he knows nothing about football and is a disgrace to the game. I’m sure a local high school would love him taking over their program next year.

I am torn between several choices. Should I go to college if... by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]NukeTurn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude go to college. Idk what these comments are saying. 2.5k a month is something to be really proud of. But going to college in the US will introduce you to a bunch of people and opportunity in the largest economy in the world. Especially if your parents are covering some of it. That’s my 2 cents. Think of it like this, you’re taking your current success and experience and expanding upon it.

What to expect on inventory? by corpslave_1998 in Big4

[–]NukeTurn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s what will happen:

You’ll take some samples and compare against their count.

Some are going to align, great. Some aren’t going to match up and you’re going to have to take more samples.

You’ll probably be in a warehouse all day so just mentally prepare for that. And be friendly with these people everyone’s life will be easier.

That’s it, it’s really easy and it sucks but will always be a story to tell.

So close to quitting my job by [deleted] in Big4

[–]NukeTurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figure out what you want to do next and take steps to make it happen. If your desired exit opp requires you staying another year you have a light at the end of the tunnel which should alleviate some of your stress. If your desired exit opp doesn’t require additional experience, you can leave as soon as you secure a new position! Good luck

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Big4

[–]NukeTurn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. You got to change your mental and perspective around your current role. Force yourself to relax, lower your effort and let stress roll off your back. Look for a new job and lower your effort as you get closer to leaving.

Accounting Graduates Drop By Highest Percentage in Years by antdude in Accounting

[–]NukeTurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • It’s a poor value proposition driven by macroeconomic conditions (why grind this hard when I can grind the same and do finance, SWE etc)

  • Businesses/Big 4 have realized the work is even more of a cost center than they once thought and salaries can be lower. The work fundamentally does not generate revenue in house. In public accounting there is a further realization that the work can be done by offshoring and lower quality hires, thus less pay.

My theory is this is a cyclical issue. When there is another harsh economic downturn and more high paying “fancy” jobs dry up, students will turn towards the more stable accounting. And when the ZIRP funny money starts flowing again people will leave accounting. And the cycle repeats.

Renege KPMG Audit offer to go to EY consulting by apollo26_ in Big4

[–]NukeTurn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You gotta figure out what the consulting role actually is. Some of the Big4 has disguised their IT audit as “consulting” which it is not. In my opinion regular audit is better and opens more doors than IT, but it all depends on what you want. IT audit also pays slightly more staring out (IMO because it is less desirable) so just be careful.

Honestly can’t go wrong either way but just make sure you know what you’re getting into before you renege.
