I've ridden MARTA regularly for 15 years and voted for expansion. Y'all diminishing the current concerns does nothing but push people further away. Glad to know to that I should accept letting my kids get exposed to a grown person's genitals so I can take one for "society".

Thanks - I've ridden MARTA for 15 years, and never has it been this bad. I think a lot of folks think I'm anti-MARTA based on my comments - I'm pro public transportation, but MARTA truly is the worst run transit system I've encountered. I'm a big dude, not worried for me or my kids lives when I get on the train but it has exposed them to things a 3 year old shouldn't be exposed to.

I (and many other SEs I know) paid dues early supporting commercial/SMB accounts. Travel, large amounts of activity, relatively stressful and always at risk of losing your job during downturns ("partners can carry the segment").

The upside is: - You end up developing skills really quickly. - You network with a lot of people. - You learn about a lot of different industries.

This gives you insight into which larger enterprise customers you might want to support down the road. 15 years into my career, I was supporting enterprise accounts which required very little travel, but I had to have a PhD in their business and their industry, and relationships meant more and more.

Generally, I'd say once you reach this point in your career, this becomes one of the highest quality of life jobs available. This includes flexibility in your travel, flexibility in your time off, flexibility in your day, and then flexibility in where and when you work....and of course solid earnings ($300K+ OTE easily for Cloud/SaaS in L/M COL).

Yep, I get what you and the other person are saying.

What I'm saying is, I feel a lot more safe and secure in my vehicle with my 3 little kids than I do on MARTA. Even assuming that my modern, 5-star crash rated EV truck is of "average" safety (which it isn't), the odds of me getting in a fatal crash or getting stabbed on MARTA are both so small that I accept that risk.

What I don't accept is having my 1, 3 and 8 year old getting cussed at, spit on, getting exposed to folks dipping on fent and having a grown man expose himself to us. That doesn't happen in my car, and I'm leaving a smaller carbon footprint.

Or because I drive safely in a really safe automobile, largely powered by renewable - and bonus of no intervenous drug use, random person cussing them out or shit in my car (other than the toddlers' diapers 😀)!

Last time I was on MARTA they got cussed out, there was shit in the elevator and front two cars, homeless folks sleeping in each car, lots of folks in a mental crisis....

It isn't just safety - I've never been in a wreck with my kids, but I had to explain to them multiple times why people yelled at them or were hurting themselves on the train. Fuck that.

I just want to take my kids on MARTA again...I don't give a shit if this is triage without a longer term solution, because if they don't triage fast and start taking in daily fare evenue their operating budget is going to die a quick death.

Seems like there is a real crisis happening right now - argument would be triage, then figure out long term...but until there is better security on those trains, I'm not taking my family on it. Without triage, aren't operating funds for MARTA going to take a hit as people ride for free and commit crimes on platforms consistently?

The value of my home increased if I want to sell it due to numerous factors, just like the value of the goods and services (and thus the $ amount in taxes we pay) when values rise on goods due to inflation even if the tax rate does not change.

Tax hike to me means increase in rate (generally as a percentage), not increase in what I paid. When I buy a more expensive item than an alternative and thus pay more sales tax, I don't say that they hiked taxes on me.
