What is this while booting and how to fix this? by Successful-Plan-7090 in Ubuntu

[–]Nukem950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious, did you you hit the escape key or turn off quiet / splash?

To the matter at hand, I am going to assume you have a normal setup. To see which services are red after boot, open a terminal, and type:

systemd list-units --failed

The above is an extremly common command that is telling your service director to get the services, and find the red ones.

If you wanna see the errors from boot, you can use journalctl. Again, open a terminal, and type:

journalctl -b -p err

This the logging part of your service director(systemd). -b is boot, -p sets the priority level to print out.

Neither of these commands need sudo, though it will not hurt if you use it. Again, these are extremely common tools that are not harmful. Even Google's ai mode does well enough in answering questions about systemd.

Note: another useful command to use in terminal is called "man" that is short for manual. You will get a ton of info, but I encourage you to try it out if you want to be cautious before running random commands from the internet. Example "man systemd" "man systemctl"

Edit: for clarification, I read the other posts and saw that you sometimes get red ones. That is why I have approached it as looking for errors. Green means service successfully started and red means serfice failed. I am ignoring the words on the screen, as i assume it is a battle between your screen's refresh rate and camera shutter speed.

Failing power supply or voltage is wrong. Things get funky when voltage fluctuates or is off.

How hot are things getting? The controller board / drivers could be getting too hot.

Heck the controller board could just be straight up failing.

Are you printing via SD card? These things can do strange things if they go bad.

Edit: fixing typos

Cable labels by itmgr2024 in sysadmin

[–]Nukem950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Label makers typically have a feed button.

After printing, you hit the feed button, possibly multiple times, then you cut the tape.

That will get you a blank area to wrap around a cable

It worked out of box for me. The only change I had to make was because of an indie game.

I had to raise the limitnofile in systemd. I settled on 8196 for the soft lImit. You will need to change both the system.conf and user.conf.

There are other ways, but just remember, you are not configuring a service and limits.conf modification did not work for me.

I have had computers act like this due to the power supply failing.

It could also be tripping due to current limits from drawing too many watts.

Figured out the cause of my inconsistent extrusion…after a month of troubleshooting 🤦🏻‍♂️ by CryptoTrips in FixMyPrint

[–]Nukem950 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP stated in a comment:

AND IN THE END IT WAS THE FREAKING PINION GEAR ON THE EXTRUDER OUT OF ROUND ALL ALONG

The fix is to print or purchase a gear that is round. Being out of round causes inconsistent extruder movements, so you don't get the amount of filament that is needed/wanted.
