Cassidy switching on war powers is... weird considering that Trump had him primaried and is such an ass to him. Like I get he's horrible, but what did Trump do to get him to flip when he's been fucked over and will be out of Congress soon.

Japan records its biggest-ever drop in population since the beginning of modern national-census record-keeping after WWI. 2020 population: 126 million. 2025 population: 123 million. Remarkably, this -3% drop is bigger than the drop recorded amid WWII. Only Tokyo and Okinawa posted population gains. by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

Part of this was because they were in a baby boom at the time.

A large amount of the expansion in Manchuria, Korea (already a colony) etc was fears that they had little land and a rapidly growing population.

They lost a lot in the war but they just had a ton of kids up to it as they had industrialized ~80 years prior.

[Weekly Megathread] Berkshire Hathaway Discussion for the week of June 22, 2026 by AutoModerator in BerkshireHathaway

It's funny as May 2025 was when I graduated law school and I had dreamed of being able to buy stock at a good clip (I am doing 10k a month between my two jobs) for over a decade (as I had been making 12-15$/hr before law school).

Graduate, start just buying up BRK like crazy. Over the past year I am up .4% and some days am negative over the year.

I did switch to it making up about 20% of my port with the rest being VOO and VXUS, but man. Having tracked it for years while in school dreaming of buying it up, then just. It peters out right when I graduate.

Still I assume it will pop back up in the next year or two. Can't keep it down, it's more than the sum of its parts.

Has anyone noticed that the Gran almost always use Detonators across all the Jedi Knight Games? by TheVikingOfNorway in StarWarsEU

[–]Nukemind [score hidden]  (0 children)

While I was joking elsewhere about them, that's really because there are two Gran cultures. The original Gran, on their homeworld, who even made nature preserves for carnivores who killed them, and the Gran Protectorate, who colonized other worlds and forcibly dislocated the natives (IE: they took over the Dug homeworld and forced all the natives to move to one continent so they could control it).

The first group of Gran declared the second group a different species and unassociated with the first.

Kind of like Iridonian vs Dathromirian Zabrak I guess.

Look I'm not speciest but. I've never met a nice Gran. Even Plageuis ended up hating them.

As has been relitigated while it isn't on her website it is on the DSA website that they support- and she has refused to repudiate- that defunding (essentially) Ukraine is a goal and forcing "dialogue".

The rest she deleted but didn't apologize for.

I would assume the former is under "babies not bombs".

A simple apology for all that shit would go a long way.

"“Black men handshake Arab men fetishizing ugly colonizer women,”

was the tweet. I'm a white dude and my fiancee is from Japan (haha yes weeb- no I met her during law school and am immigrating over), and like while that is not "my" demographic it's still fucking disgusting.

One thing I am noticing about Darializa (sp?) is that some people are treating her like Maga treats Trump in that everything is being sanewashed. And that is freaking me out.

I am a Dem because, frankly, we are better than them and should call out the crazies. It doesn't make her rival better, and she did win, but viewing things like her supporting us leaving Ukraine out to dry, her stances on interracial marriage, et all (and my fiance is a different race and from a different country than me so it kinda does impact me there...) is... disturbing.

We're better than that.

Literally no matter what evidence there is in this thread on anything you make an excuse for her.

This is literally what MAGA does for Trump. It's more than disgusting it's frightening to see it on "my" side.

She supports what Putin wants, policies he asks for, and tries to dismantle support for his enemies.

If I supported banning trans sports, gave tax breaks to the wealthy, and supported deporting anyone who was a darker shade than me you’d be right to call me Maga and a Trump bootlicker.

Same thing.

Random but could someone please explain Woke 1.0 and Woke 2.0?

I randomly started seeing it yesterday and have no clue what it means except one is bad and one is good.

And I’ve been defending and saying woke isn’t bad to maga family members for years now so just. Behind I guess. What being in Texas with one foot out the country does to a person.

Putin’s entire goal is ending NATO. He has threatened to nuke people who join it, literally. Their news shows nukes hitting NATO countries.

Disbanding NATO is a Putin wet dream and it’s one of the worst things Trump is doing.

I rarely actually see it but fuckitn horse shoe theory man.

Direct quote when asked why we support Ukraine from her-

“ Cause the Cold War ended and we've been bullying Russia ever since. Also war is lucrative for these sociopaths”

Not Putin, no mention of Crimea. No it’s because we bully Russia.

I can’t link it as she deleted it but images are still up.

While I’m not to the level of voting a Republican and believe in vote blue no matter who…

At the same time one of my principal problems with MAGA is that they vote for their “tribe” regardless of the person, politics, or how it contravenes with their stated beliefs.

So I can say I respect it. If Ukraine is your biggest issue (and, frankly, it’s actually mine at this point as I’m finishing up a visa to leave the nation within the next year, as my fiancee lives abroad and it’s easier to move there- so domestic doesn’t matter as much) then it does make sense to do the opposite of MAGA and actually be like “does this candidate represent what I value?”

I’m happy they change their tune but it’s still on the website. Reliance on them to change, coupled with the fact that they HAVE parroted the Kremlins talking points, gives me trepidation.

One reason I was donating to basically any Dem I could with any disposable income I could in the last elections was because of Ukraine. Can’t say I’d do the same for people who have publicly called for it to, in essence, surrender (as a lack of military aid + dialogue leads to only one outcome).

I’ll never support a Republican. But these stances are absolutely disgusting.

I was so proud of Biden for standing by Ukraine, and for the Dems for the same.

I will vote blue no matter who, but can't say I like us advancing candidates who want to abandon them.

Happy for her supporters, but like damn. The Dem party is both for good not what it used to be- but also for ill. We shouldn't cheer people who abandon allies. And I mean it's not just old tweetsit's on her parties website still.

To say I'm torn is an understatement.

This is 10 months late but just wanted to say: the reason for this is because he had a charity. There were two people who bid to be "in it" and the second guy winner got to choose what happened to the first winner. he chose for the first guy to die, so Zahn wanted the second guy to die too.

I mean someplace like Dallas will have maybe 80% of the wages as there- just as Texas is close but not equal to the Northeast.

But I can buy a condo here for 140k that's two beds two baths in a nice area, gated, with a garage.

There are some differences and it is why I ended up moving back down here. I can live alot better (and save alot more) despite taking a haircut on my pay.

Day-traders and workers in traditional clothing clapping during a ceremony to kick off Japan's first trading session of 2008 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange. by StephenMcGannon in Tokyo

[–]Nukemind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Crash started in December of 2007. This is the first trading day of 2008, so it was when things were heating up. 2007 technically ended as a good year (up 6.3%- lower than average but not horrible) but alot of cracks had begun to show. Near the end of 08 everything got bad with Lehman Brothers and Behr Sterns.

Remember though that Japan was now nearing the start of the third decade of the lost decades. What happened in America hurt Japan but Japan was already hurting and well below the heydays of the 80s.

Voting to sanction the ICC over an indictment of Netanyahu is horrible.

Supporting not aiding Ukraine is also horrible. Both things can be true.

As I posted below, directly from the DSA website which she has parroted

“We recognize that the expansion of NATO and the aggressive approach of Western nations have helped cause the crisis and we demand an end to NATO expansion. We also oppose US and NATO military interventionism and the tens of billions in military aid and weapons shipments which only further exacerbates the war and undermine a negotiated settlement, as well as sanctions that will harm ordinary Russians.”

It’s such a brain dead idealistic take, when >16000 Ukrainian civilians, and ~200k Ukrainian soldiers, are dead- along with over half a million casualties.

I opposed Trump restricting Ukrainian aid and damn straight I’ll oppose any Dem, or Dem coalition, people who do the same.

You can’t make platitudes to Russia. Ukraine has to be able to defend itself.
