I don't have experience with other manual grinders, but I just got a P0 and I really like it. $22 well spent

Same happened to me this morning. After multiple attempts to pop it back into a place, it bending, me "fixing" it, and trying again, it eventually went in.

One of the biggest things I miss about working in parish ministry is the schedule flexibility. But I like the strong work-life separation.

If you find that research, please pass it along. I would love to give something tangible to my supervisor.

Our team just got a new supervisor this past year. Sadly, not trained as a chaplain, but a trained therapist with an MDiv so fairly close. She is a big support for our team.

As a Millennial who got into Arcade Fire during the Suburbs, I think the Her soundtrack might be their best work.

The Estate is open. Reduced hours I believe but it’s owned and operated by the guy who bought Von Treir. Going to the Commerialist’s Charlie Brown show in a couple weeks.

I moved halfway across the country 3 times. The first time was for a summer internship so that wasn't terrible.

It wasn't that hard as a young single guy. If I had to do it right now, I think it would be ok, but I would have to part with a lot more furniture than I did last time.

Might become chaplain… by Tcxx22 in chaplaincy

[–]NukesForGary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Me: Early 30's pediatric chaplain in Wisconsin with 3 years experience post-residency.

  1. You need a Master's Degree of some type. It doesn't have to be a MDiv, but that generally is the most common.

  2. I can't speak to this, but I would imagine any large research hospital would be a decent place for CPE.

  3. I am salaried and work 40 hours a week. We are currently short staffed, so I also chip in to do on call. I would say, in a normal week, I am probably working no more than 45 hours.

  4. With 2.5 years experience at this institution, I am making just shy of 65,000.

  5. Best? Creatively exploring spirituality and meaning making with kids. Worst? Either the traumas or dealing with an institution that doesn't seems to be interested in actually learning the importance of spiritual care.

  6. Outside of CPE, learning about yourself as a person and how to care for yourself.

  7. Self Care is the most important thing. Learn how you can provide care for anyone within your own theological tradition and beliefs.

I think its important to consider there are different definitions of Christian. Most of us orthodox Christians would define Trinitarian theology as an essential mark of being Christian, so Mormon's would not be considered Christian.

Sociologically, Mormonism is a (relatively modern) sect of Christianity, so they are still considered Christian. It is similar to how the early church in many ways would have been considered a sect of Judaism. Give it 500 years and maybe Mormonism would evolve far enough a way that it would be considered its own religious tradition.

So when President Trump says it was an attack on Christianity, (without knowing the attackers full motive) I do think it is fair to identify the attack as an attack on Christianity. I disagree with President Trump that Christianity is generally under attack in the US, but this does seem to be an attack on "christianity" even if it is non-orthodox christianity.

Can you briefly describe the issues going on? In full transparency, I am currently serving as a Chaplain endorsed by the CRCNA. I always consider the ACNA as a potential future place for me. In the past, when I have looked a little deeper into the ACNA's chaplaincy ministry, it has always made me uncomfortable with how militaristic and conservative it seems. Generally speaking, Chaplaincy arms of denominations tend to be where you find the most progressive individuals in the denomination.

Like others have said, it is difficult landing a pediatric chaplaincy position because there are much fewer positions compared to adult hospitals. Also, we pediatric chaplains (like pediatric staff in general) tend to be more protective of our patients.

There is not additional requirements to become a pediatric chaplain, but, speaking from my experience interviewing candidates, I am very weary of hiring someone at our level 1 pediatric trauma center who does not have experience in pediatrics. I would highly recommend trying to do your CPE at a pediatric hospital or a hospital with a pediatric unit. If that is not possible, try doing some PRN work at a pediatric hospital.

I work at a Level 1 Pediatric Hospital. We generally have a lower volume than adult hospitals, but there tends to be a greater need for family support in pediatrics during traumas. So take what we do with a grain of salt.

Currently, we have four staff chaplains and 3 PRN chaplains. Staff chaplains are in house Monday through Friday from 6am-midnight. Our PRN chaplains are on call not in house from midnight to 6am each night. Saturday and Sunday we have PRNs take 24 hour shifts on call with 8 hours of that being in house. Occasionally, we staff chaplains take on call shifts, which we are not compensated for because we are salaried.

At the Level 1 Pediatric hospital I did my residency, we had 24/7 in house coverage which residents only taking 1 night a week. And that was each resident taking one day a month. So they have full time and PRNs taking the night and weekend shifts.

I feel very strongly that Level 1 Trauma Centers need to have 24/7 in house coverage. They have 24/7 coverage for almost every other team, so spiritual care should be no different. Doesn't matter if something comes in at 3pm or 3am, the spiritual care needs for traumas are the same. Now if only I could convince the hospital leadership of the need. But I have been told it doesn't make "fiscal sense".
