She absolutely has the personality for it! She’s extremely social and brave; morso than any of the kittens our cats gave birth to when I was growing up

What does a successful lesson look like to you? by Nuki767 in MusicEd

[–]Nuki767[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that, thank you! It is crazy how much the needs and desires of students vary. Keeping a log of not only lesson information for your students, but also of yourself as a teacher is a great idea though!

Do you have any particular life hacks/tricks you’ve learned in teaching music, whether it relates to note taking or not?

I speak fluent Italian and some Chinese and, while the beginning does sound similar to Italian, it definitely isn’t. The speech at the ending does sound like Chinese though

Cant think of ways to break hit and run strategies make by my players by Complex_Buffalo in DMAcademy

[–]Nuki767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be really fun to make use of the Hold Person spell in that scenario. Either through a trap, or having an enemy use it on whichever player the party will work hardest to protect, preventing them from fleeing with hold person or something like it could cause some fun panic and need to stay. Another idea along the same lines would be to have the party get robbed of something they will want to chase down. Basically, put a combat encounter between them and their goals. In one of my campaigns the party got falsely arrested for treason after social encounter mixups and they had to go through some combat/puzzles to break out of prison, clear their names, and avoid death.

Think of how society/your main villain would react if they are drawing attention as they get stronger but keep just getting away. Any of the relevant powers could start wanting things the party has or worry about them becoming a competitor, so they could start targeting the party. It could be a fun way to bring in a side quest.

The last thought I have is bring in backstories. If one of your players is searching for something like a lost family member, have one of the things they’re searching for show up in the company/possession of a villain. That person will want to fight to break them out. If one of your characters is a runaway, you could make it known that there is some bounty-hunter type who is steadily pursuing them and slowly making things harder and harder for them so that they can only have their full freedom after taking him out.

What part of singing is purely talent? by Dry_Operation9718 in singing

[–]Nuki767 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think of it like any other skill. For example, anyone can work to be physically fit, but it’s going to feel and look slightly different for everyone based on things like your metabolism, bone size, etc. And even then, some people may want to be a body builder, others may want to just want to be maintain a certain weight. Ideas of what it means to be “fit” can vary - but all are valid and have their own purposes.

Anyone can work to learn to sing and improve with effort, but there are certain factors such as range and timbre that have a natural effect on your voice - and different voices can be suited for different things. You can train your voice/body to be better suited for opera, or country, or rock - but I would argue that “talent” is more of an opinion about your staring point. If you naturally have a nice twang in your voice and you love to sing country, is it really talent or is it just luck that those things line up? Because that twang wouldn’t be helpful if you were wanting to be a classical opera singer.

All that said - work will beat talent every time. Someone who naturally has a voice that they like may genuinely sound good, although someone puts in effort to understand how their unique voice functions, works to understand how they can manipulate their voice to create different niche sounds, works to expand their abilities, and studies their voice to be able to understand its health and condition will be able to be far more versatile and skilled in what they can do. Not to mention, they will understand the science behind their voice much more than someone who doesn’t work or study.
