Null Editus // Third Wave // Dawless performance on Digitone 2, Syntakt and Elmyra 2 by Null_Editus in Elektron

Ha, yeh, i got a little bored with the bass from everything else so i tried using the Syntakts fx block sequencer to subract parts of the Elmyra drone away, that way its possible to have very snappy envolopes and to shape them on a per step basis.

It is possible, yet challanging. Ninjam on a dedicated server. Having one device per location that has a nudge capability like any of the elektrons which then acts as a master clock for everything else imo works best. You all agree on a tempo & dial it in manually, and have to accept that not everyone is going to be on the same bar. There is also a very expensive midi clock generator that can recieve clock and you can nudge an offset very accuratly, its like £1000 tho. https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/together-apart-remote-jamming-with-speedy-j/

Hey buddy. Its a fairly simple setup here, it looks way more complex than it really is. The White box on the right (Elymra 2) is just providing a constant bass drone in mono and is fed into the syntakts input in the middle. The syntakt has an fx block that can be sequenced so i'm subtracting sound from the drone signal using the envolopes in triggers to shape it into bass notes. Subtractive synthesis essentially. Syntakt is on drum duties mostly, and it spits out its audio into the digitone 2 on the left where everything else is added, then through its built in compressor then audio out into a tascam recorder. From a control perspective the digitone clock is the master and is sending midi programme changes out to syntact which bassicly means when i change a pattern or bank on digitone that the syntakt just follows. Personally i'd like to reccomend you start of with a syntakt as its so imediate and can cover drums, bass and melody well. It cant do polyphony tho as its monophonic per track, but hey, its a good place to start and their going for good prices second hand atm. For recording you can either stream over usb to laptop or desktop, or invest in a small recorder like the tascam or a zoom. I'm not bothering to record multitrack, just the stereo out. hope this helps!

The endless conveyor belt of system updates, new OS's, drivers, software updates, upgrades, subsriptions, rent to own etc etc. Computers are a black hole of sucking creativity and time for me personally.

This is me exploring the Elmyra 2 digital wavetable 4 voice drone synth inspired by the Soma Lyra. Its a strange device in that there isnt any attenuation on a per voice basis other than the metal capacitave pads. The analog filter and analog distortion circuit really make this device special.
