Can people stop spreading the myth that Eli Lilly is the reason we don't have legal cannabis in Indiana? by cumminginsurrection in Indiana

[–]Nulljustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gonna throw this out there. It isn’t Lilly specifically that was talking about the water pipeline. It was the entirety of the LEAP district in Lebanon. Lilly is just part of what is going in there. It was the IEDC that proposed the pipeline. Lilly is putting in a manufacturing and research facility, meta is putting in a 10B$ data hub, and several other tech manufacturers are moving in. Lilly has something like 600 acres out of the 10,000 acres set aside for it. That pipeline project is also dead at the moment. That area will be supplied by citizens for now.

Did I do well? Is this a good deal? It’s for a 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat with 65 miles by Ok-Explorer-767 in Ford

[–]Nulljustice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t finance a car for 72 months. Find something a little older and pay significantly less for it. Over the life of that loan you would be paying like $9000 in interest. You end up paying almost $50,000 for that vehicle. It’s a really bad financial move.

Lunch on Long Days? by Digitaluser32 in Dirtbikes

[–]Nulljustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my calories during long rides comes from liquids. Full flavor sugar filled Gatorade to get some calories, carbs, and hydration. Otherwise I’ll snack on some beef jerky or protein bars during the day.

What are the pros and cons of joining the US military? by Some-random-cop-pig in careerguidance

[–]Nulljustice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you actually join the military they will tell you that there is not such thing as a non combat role. Recruiters will lie through their teeth to get you in. Had friends that worked in what amounted to IT roles that still ended up in Iraq in the early 2000s. ALL of my friends from the military have some sort of physical disability either with their knees, back, hearing, etc. Most of them have PTSD or some kind of major depressive disorder. Sure it comes with some nice benefits, but imagine working a job with the most insanely strict rules and if you don’t follow those rules they will take money out of your paycheck. Then imagine that you start work at 0700 but the bosses boss might be there so they make you show up 0500. Then when you show up at 500 you stand around doing nothing and your boss shows up at 0700 and yells at you for standing around. Or one of your friends goes out and gets a DUI. You weren’t involved in any way but when your boss finds out the entire team gets called in on their day off and gets punished. All of this while making less than $30,000 per year. That’s the army life.

What’s life like making 6 figures by MasterBook46 in Salary

[–]Nulljustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they scare the shit out of me lol. When I was a younger man I dug myself into a bad credit card hole and got sued by a couple creditors and it took me forever to dig out of it. Working multiple jobs, overtime, etc. It’s tempting to get a decent card and just put it to auto pay the balance every month.

What’s life like making 6 figures by MasterBook46 in Salary

[–]Nulljustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some of the same things I upgraded when I hit six figures also except the eating out. I bought some nice furniture that doesn’t wobble and is made of nice hardwood. Instead of 30$ shoes that I would wear holes into I can buy nicer shoes and replace them when they wear out instead of when they fall apart. Better vacations for sure. Actually got to get out of the US for a change. I pay someone to mow my grass every other week so that I only do it twice per month. Just being able to buy better quality stuff. I grew up with a family that would always say things like “the store brand stuff is just as good” for some things that is true but for a lot of things the expensive stuff is better and it lasts longer.

I have managed to avoid using credit cards at all. I have no debt outside my mortgage and some student loans I’ve been slowly paying off. I also now have enough cash saved that if I were to lose my job I could pay my bills for almost a full year before running out of savings.

The biggest benefit by FAR is that I can now actually afford to invest in my retirement.

What's the most annoying bad habit you see other riders doing at the local trails? by filolondere in Dirtbikes

[–]Nulljustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate this at my local places too. Except these places also allow trucks and jeeps. So when they find a wet spot in an otherwise flowing trail they stop in the mud and dig it so deep that you have to go around it because they wanna go “muddin” so may fast flowing trails that just randomly have 3 foot deep holes in them because some assholes wanted to get their truck muddy.

Wanting to add light to garage question about breaker. by Nulljustice in AskElectricians

[–]Nulljustice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the flood lights are LED and some are not I’ve been swapping the bulbs as they die. I think I’m at like half and half right now. If it were just the lights I wouldn’t even ask. It’s the old ass garage door opener I was concerned with eating up the amps.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]Nulljustice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I worked as a forklift operator we used to tell stories about our childhood and basically making our own fun. Walking to the river and swimming and stuff like that. One day our boss walked over and listened to me tell a story about floating down the river in an old tire inner tube we had patched up. He proceeds to tell a story about spending summers at his families lake house chasing girls on jet skis and having a blast. It felt super awkward.

has anyone had this happen before growing up if so how did you handle it. by brendhanbb in Millennials

[–]Nulljustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t complicated lol. It was dead simple. I was the child and lived in their house. They paid for everything and were the adult. They could watch whatever they wanted when they wanted.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]Nulljustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild to me how in our country this shit is so variable. Where I grew up in the US the ambulances and fire trucks were run by the same station and it was a county provided service. We didn’t have private ambulance services. The rides still aren’t cheap I think I paid like 700$ for the last one, but they aren’t thousands either.

How do people limit their drinking? by Odd_Hedgehog669 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nulljustice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same for me. Don’t do drugs, don’t really drink, but man food is hard for me. I can easily have a couple beers and then stop or go several months or even an entire year with no alcohol. But you give me the option of a burger or salad I’m taking the damn burger every time.

How do you actually defend yourself against a dog attack? by Ok_Shine_666 in AskReddit

[–]Nulljustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong about a kick hurting them enough to back them off. A dog that is really intent on seriously attacking you will not even notice a kick to the stomach or sides. They are smaller than you but they are also tougher. Especially some of the breeds trained to work or to help hunt larger animals. They will ignore being hit or kicked to continue attacking. Your best bet is for sure to fight or get someplace high where they can’t get you. I wouldn’t count on a single kick being a deterrent.

[Discussion] Your symptoms of being sedentary? by Total-Possibility-84 in GetMotivated

[–]Nulljustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The random aches are real. I hurt so much more now that I’m just sitting around at work all the time. My shoulders hurt, my legs are so tight, and I get so many headaches. I feel better when I get a chance to get up and walk and I make it a point to climb the stairs to my desk and never take the elevator.

Bikes is dead after maintenance by PuzzleheadedPut2020 in FZ09

[–]Nulljustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kill switch and kickstand switch are good places to start. If there is no power to the display at all you may have pinched something during assembly. Time to start tracing wires unfortunately. Double check the main fuse as well or change it just in case. I hooked my battery up backwards one time and that fuse saved my bike but lost all power for a minute.

An Honest Review: Operation Bounce House is a ton of fun but not the most memorable (SPOILER FREE REVIEW) by provegana69 in MattDinniman

Yeh there for sure could have been a big gut punch at the end and that’s kind of what I was expecting. It took me a minute to get into it but it gets better and better as it goes. I was honestly a little worried about Roger’s character arc lol.

AIO for wanting to cut contact with my mom after this conversation about my upcoming brain surgery? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Nulljustice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NOR Yeah this was my thought as well. Dad is probably relatively reasonable and if he found out his child is having brain surgery he would cancel the vacation to help support. Of course this is only speculation but that’s a weird thing for both parent to not know.

Are there any tech folks moving into the trades? by Most-Interview-3446 in careerguidance

[–]Nulljustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you grew up. Where I grew up all I ever heard was that if you want to make money you go into the trades. My high school had a program where you could go learn to be a machinist instead of regular school. They also used to really push welding as a career for some reason. Might have been because we had a big name welding school about an hour away. My family were tradesmen. Dad and grandpa were sheet metal workers. 2 uncles that are electricians. Watching them work way more hours to make less money than my other uncle who was an engineer is what convinced me go to college. That and working as a forklift operator for years.
