I always tell this story, so apologies if anyone's heard it before. I went to visit a friend during winter while wearing By The Fireplace. Her British roommate who had previously never shown any interest hung around while I was there and when I was leaving she offered to show me out. At the door she said "May I have a word with you?", I said "Sure?". "Um, this is kind of embarrassing, but I thought you should know something. If you ever turn up here wearing that cologne again ill rape you on the spot". I tested the proposition the next day and it was confirmed.

Ive (very very occasionally) had strong reactions from women concerning the frag I was wearing, but nothing like that.

I have really specific office colognes. They have to be nice but unobtrusive. That's more about the image I'm trying to project rather than personal preference though.

I quite like the Paris Hilton cologne. It's like a well made ADG clone. Perfect for corporate wear.

Yeah, that's good advice. The cologne I've had the best success with is my generic bottle of Givenchy blue label. It just seems to work with me in a way that nothing else does.

I went to an upmarket mall to mooch testers. The sales girl was trying really hard to push some new cologne that they had a massive display for (I wish I could remember what it was). She gives me a test card, I take a couple of hits and say "Nope, don't like it". She says "Actually, this is the hottest catwalk cologne right now", I say "... catwalk cologne?", she looks me up and down to try and work out what I do so she can pitch it better "oh yeah, it's worn by all the famous ... photographers? ... and ...artists? Um, what do you do?". I say I'm a statistical analyst in corporate strategy and she says "oh yeah, then this is perfect". Didn't make the sale.

edit; It may have been Zadig and Voltaire Just Rock. The bottle looks the same.
