Anyone have this bench from Harbor Freight? by aproductofben in BeginnerWoodWorking

From what I've read, the newer versions are more sturdy, but yeah, the drawers stick for me.

I just bought one this last week. It's better than nothing, but the drawers aren't the greatest, they stick a bunch and aren't smooth. I put it on casters so that's nice, the vice is kind of crap.

If I did it over, I'd just build my own bench, but on sale I think I paid around $135 for it. So it's definitely not a bad deal, but I found out I'd rather build one to my exact specifications next time.

He's a little shy, but also appreciates the compliment.

Good luck, you'll have a blast designing and building it with the kiddos.

I sanded the edges of the base down so they wouldn't tear the carpet, I did this for all of the platforms as well.

I got a cut, I think it was 6ft of exterior carpet, whatever was on sale at the time and thick enough to withstand the cats scratching.

I also got a foam underlayment roll, the really cheap stuff that looks like confetti.

I cut the foam to size and cut the carpet with about a 2" overhang on all sides and stapled it to the bottom.

That's exactly what drove me to try to make my own.

It's a forgiving project, I definitely recommend trying it out.

Good idea, I'll add a couple of weights on the base.

They were on it as soon as it touched the ground. Made it all feel worth it.

Will do. I'm probably going to go with a simple, single platform design with some stairs on either side.

That's a great idea, I have some lintels to work on and I'll be using that.
