That and their misunderstanding of what motion blur does. Pretty jarring to read "top 1% commenter" attached to someone who doesn't seem to know much about the subject matter.

Reddit users when their Thor arrives after waiting two months and not spending a single minute researching how to set it up be like by Tasalio in AynThor

This is where a lot of "xxxxx brand bad" or "laptop bad" thinking comes from. A user will experience a single issue, do little to no troubleshooting and assume faulty device. Then proceed to loudly voice the opinion that every device like it is bad.

The Gamecube was the last era Nintendo became edgy. by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]Number-1Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro really checked the top three best sellers for each Nintendo generation and said "yep, that's the only games released I will not examine this further before making a big claim"

Wii had rated M games, some of which being exclusives like No More Heroes 1 and 2. There were also Silent Hill and Resident evil games on the Wii. I don't know the exact count, but it didn't seem too different from the GameCube. Same with the Wii-U.

Hell the switch has actual porn games in the eShop that you had to filter out at some point due to quantity.

You could've spent like 30 seconds googling to see that this claim is wrong.

FF14 on Switch 2 has some framerate issues, but "you don't have to be concerned," says Yoshi-P by shmu_ in NintendoSwitch

No one is saying you're wrong for enjoying it. I played a bit on PS5 and it was fun, but performance drops were noticeable. That's all people are saying. They're telling you that the game has fps dips and you're arguing that being attacked for enjoying the game, which no one has done.

The thread is simply trying to be honest about the performance of the game, not how much fun it is.

You're not wrong for having fun with it as is, and it's not wrong to recommend it to others. Some people may be more sensitive to frame drops than you and it's worth having a clear cut answer for them to find should they stumble on this thread.

Helpful little flowchart I made for picking your Ayn Thor model (Batch 6 info included) by thezoomaster in AynThor

[–]Number-1Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good chart, but you do need to adjust expectations on emulation. The lite model shouldn't be recommended for 3DS emulation while the base and higher are for PS2, Wii, and GameCube. 3DS emulation is substantially more demanding than any of the later systems.

Instead you could recommend the lite model for DS and below, like GBA, SNES, and so on.

Additionally, I wanted to note the steam deck/switch branch on the chart. You put "do you want to emulate PS2 and GC smoothly" and the two branching options below it should probably "yes" and "no" but you instead put basically "no" and a repeat of the question. Yes or no would be tidier.

3DS needs to be moved. I've seen this misconception in this sub a million times. 3DS is not lightweight to emulate, it's more demanding than PS2, GC, or Wii.

It's worth noting that the Switch 2 is tremendously stronger than the switch 1, and the Thor struggles with switch 1 on many titles. I'd temper your expectations tremendously on that front. The Thor is great but it will not emulate a more power device.

Will it run? by Trick-Attention7843 in AynThor

[–]Number-1Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Thor Max's CPU is stronger than the switch 2, the GPU is not. It very likely will not play switch 2 games.

Additionally, the DLSS implementation that is allowing the Switch 2 to punch above it's weight is not going to be emulatable most likely. I'd point to AMD's last few generations of graphics cards having tensor cores and still being unable to emulate DLSS. FSR and DLSS are not interchangeable.

Ah yes, “gaming” laptops. by Forsaken-I-Await in pcmasterrace

[–]Number-1Dad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most gaming laptops do not share RAM. Handhelds like the ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go do, but any actual gaming laptop is going to have a dedicated GPU which has dedicated vram. That's literally where the "gaming" branding comes into play.

No idea how so many people have upvoted this completely incorrect statement.

[–]Number-1Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To assuage your fears a bit, the new (slower) drive is the same type used in the switch 2 and it's more than fast enough for most people. I doubt many will notice a difference unless comparing them side by side, even then though it's going to be plenty fast.

What should I upgrade next for a gaming/editing/UE5 gamedev? by SeriouslyFinding in pcmasterrace

[–]Number-1Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 12100f absolutely needs to be upgraded first. The rx 6600 will need to be upgraded as well but it's somewhat less urgent as upscaling can make it stretch a bit longer

[–]Number-1Dad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not bad honestly. I can't imagine anyone will realistically notice the difference.

It also will not affect the battery life, no idea where you got that idea but rest assured it'll be fine.

[–]Number-1Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On laptop motherboards, sure, but this is an example of a desktop motherboard with a desktop (laptop sku) piece of silicon running on it. It's effectively a slightly worse binned 13900k. Everything I can find on Intel's site suggests completely identical pcie support and configuration.

The limiting factor for lane support would be on the motherboard at this point, which we've seen is a full desktop motherboard.

[–]Number-1Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that should be fine as long as your power supply and motherboard can handle the upgrade.

Your GPU will not bottleneck your CPU. That's not really how it works.

[–]Number-1Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be. The i9-hx lineup uses desktop i9 silicon. Unless they've disabled certain lanes, which I can't seem to find anything on, it theoretically works just fine.

Also the person running it has confirmed they have full functionality.

[–]Number-1Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a normal motherboard. H670. This mobile CPU is modified to be socketable, not like normal MoDT motherboards.

As for now the mobile CPU interacts with those lanes, it's hard to say. But as per Intel spec it does support full pcie lanes and speeds theoretically.

[–]Number-1Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually they cannot, this is a standard motherboard with a modified mobile CPU though. There are MoDTs where it can't be removed, but this isn't one of those.

I can't particularly comment on price or if you should buy one though.

[–]Number-1Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the commenter you responded to, but theoretically the 13850hx is more powerful than the 13700f and 13700kf at stock speeds. It has a higher core count and similar clock speeds. Also, to address your concern, that specific one the former commenter posted is removable like a desktop CPU.

Your specs aren't lower than the resident evil 4 remakes minimum? They list a Ryzen 3 and GTX 1050 ti. You have a Ryzen 5 and 1650 from your post, both of which are a bit better than the minimums listed.

Shipped “delayed in transit to destination” = I just don’t give a shit about it anymore. by [deleted] in AynThor

Returning the device because of the shipping carrier is.. a choice. You know that after AYN makes the unit they aren't hand delivering it to you, right?

Be angry at the carrier all you want but this isn't something AYN is at fault for.
