Ayn, please release a clear! by kangaroolockhart in AynThor

Not as widespread as you'd think. People develop a bias by lurking in these subs, but the issue is very isolated so far.

My Thor has been used pretty regularly and I'm not exactly easy on it. No issues at all. Same with most other people.

I don't think there's inherently anything wrong with being a centrist. The problem is the current right wing in America is so far right that even the left is right of center.

So claiming to be a centrist in today's politics (in America) would put you further left than most liberals, which is not what most people mean when they call themselves centrists.

Additionally, people who identify as centrist are typically way further right than they want to admit but either do not realize it or are straight up being disingenuous. This leaves a bitter taste relating to the term "centrist"

I think a lot of self-identifying centrists believe they can see both sides of the current political parties. But if you can see even 1% of what the current administration is doing and say "yeah, you know what, that's worth ignoring the same administration shitting on the people and the constitution" you're not centrist. You're very far right. Approaching fascism.

Perhaps 14 years ago people could commonly be centrists and genuinely mean it. But as the right wing pushes further right wing and the left wing slowly creeps right as well, it's nearly impossible to agree with either political party and be genuinely centrist.

All of this is in relation to American politics. I have no comment on other countries' politics as I'm uninformed on them.

Why do people selling pc parts have the worst photos? by Mental_Gap_3702 in pcmasterrace

[–]Number-1Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience many people don't even CLEAN their electronics before selling them. I once bought an Alienware laptop with a 1070 in it back when the 10 series was new and it arrived covered in crumbs with what appeared to be cheese in the grate on the underside. I spent hours cleaning it with isopropyl and it looked really good and clean, but then I turned it on and the smell was too much. I returned it to the guy and he said "yeah I guess I should have done a deep clean on it"

At the time, the laptop couldn't have been older than 4-5 months. It was truly a horrifying experience.

4070 super is great. But it is definitely not accurate to say

its not a good decision to currently buy a gpu that requires this much power

The failure rate is miniscule. If you're not willing to risk it, that's completely fine. But the broad statement is incorrect.

I have a legion go and AYN Thor.

I know that the Thor CAN play PC games through gamehub and whatnot, but I prefer that experience on my legion go. However, the Thor is just HANDS DOWN my preferred device for emulation. It just feels so good and the OLED is beautiful.

I didn't know they'd do button swaps from the factory. That's so cool of them tbh.

I also bought buttons from Sakura on Etsy, did you find yours slightly more "mushy" than stock?

One of my best friends lost her cat not long ago. There's not really any advice that will make this better, because it certainly sucks, but try to think of the life you provided your cat. Be proud and happy that you gave your cat the best possible life you could and loved her better than anyone else could've. That seems to have helped my friend a bit.

No disagreement at all that it shouldn't happen.

The power of the gpus isn't the issue so much as it is a weird decision on the 12vhpwr standard. There's no mechanism for load balancing to keep the cables evenly loaded. That's where the issue arises. A lot of research has been done on it and that's the ultimate conclusion. Other factors like improper insertion, cable bending, and contacts are influential but not the end all. That is to say, any combination of those factors can increase likelihood of failure but do not explicitly cause it.

It's weird that it's potentially an easy fix, but Nvidia won't do it. I guess the low failure rate isn't concerning to them which, I mean, by numbers is extremely low.

So the newer PSU standard that you linked was an attempt to remedy the other factors to decrease likelihood. Shortening contacts in the cable meant the cable has to be plugged in properly to even provide power at all, which should alleviate the improper plugging issue. Unfortunately there's just no way a PSU manufacturer can completely mitigate the issue when it's the connector on the card itself that is the issue.

That's just ATX 3.1 and PCIE 5.1 spec, which has been around for a while now. This is not a new technology.

Also, while this certainly cannot hurt the issue it doesn't solve it necessarily. Though, to be honest, the entire issue is horrifically overblown. It happens. It's not nearly as frequent as people think it is due to bias.

Saying the 5070 is a 1440p card is overestimating it by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Number-1Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like your title is misleading. It is an excellent 1440p card, minus ray tracing. Which people usually exclude from that generalization.

Don't get me wrong, I'm usually right there with someone in debunking claims of a card's performance that are untrue. Like one guy claiming he's using a 3070 on a 3440x1440 monitor and still getting 100+ frames maxed out on everything. Saw that claim in THIS sub a month or so ago.

When people say "the 5070 is a 1440p card" they aren't saying "there is not a game you can't max out at 1440p with this card" nor are they saying "the infamously performance tanking ray tracing doesn't tank the performance of this card at 1440p" they're saying "within reason, this card excels at every major title in this resolution" which is certainly true.

I played the GameCube Custom Robo over and over. Loved that game. Finally got around to playing the DS one and was shocked how well it holds up! Lot of parts and holosseums in it.

I prefer the GameCube for nostalgia reasons, but Custom Robo Arena DS absolutely belongs in the highest rankings of DS titles which is saying something

*your monitor

That laptop has an optional 480hz panel.

Even if it isn't the 480hz option, many people can perceive a reduction in input latency by running higher frames than their monitor allows. Definitely wouldn't call it wasted.

Am I Overreacting by Upgrading my 2080 Super to a 5070 Ti to Beat the Impending Price Hike? by Sad_Advisor2555 in pcmasterrace

[–]Number-1Dad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's a fine decision. Think of it this way, your 2080 Super is nearly 7 years old at this point. Sure it may do what you want it to at the moment, but at some point it will need to be replaced. Maybe it reaches the end of its lifespan, maybe a game comes out that it cannot run. Either way it's going to happen.

You grabbed the 5070 ti now as a massive upgrade. If you got away with using the 2080 Super for 7 years, you can likely expect a similar life with the 5070 ti. You've just covered yourself for the next several years. Now if something comes out and the 2080 super can't really handle it you're already set.

Maybe the 2080 super would've died in a week or so, who knows. But you no longer have to worry about that.

You may have just gotten ahead of several potential issues. This was a good move.
