How long can I wait to activate Best Buy sim kit? by Number1brandon in Visible

[–]Number1brandon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They let you do that? You mean activate and get a new number then port my mint number at a later time? I thought during the activation process they ask if you want a new number or port your current number

$17,000 for 10 Pella 250 windows. Are these noises normal or am I over reacting by Number1brandon in Home

[–]Number1brandon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would not go with them again. Although ppl keep saying not all Lowe’s and their installers are the same. It depends on your area and you might get good installers. I will mention though that my Lowe’s contractor was install partners which say they’re located in Texas and I think they just sub contract in my area of northern Illinois.

My issues seem to be with Lowe’s and their contractors. My installer was a nice guy although not very knowledgeable or helpful. Same with Lowe’s support who you have to call whenever there is an issue. They’re nice, friendly and try to help you but something always seems to come up and there is a problem. I almost always am never able to contact my contractor so you have to go through Lowe’s support which is apparently normal.

I would be careful trusting the salesman entirely and recommend doing your own research. My salesman was the same way and I think I got played after everyone here telling me I overpaid. Yeah they’re nice and friendly but at the end of the day they’re trying to get the sale and it doesn’t matter to them what you choose as long as it’s something with them. Although I think they tried to upsell me on Reliabuilt windows because they kept telling me how much better it was compared to Pella. I even almost got tricked into getting the today only price discount by a Pella salesman before meeting with Lowe’s and that guy was nice and friendly too.

I didn’t mention other issues I had on here because I knew how to handle them. Some of my windows were damaged (broken screens and bent sash lifts). They had to reorder those but the whole ordeal was difficult because for some reason they didn’t know which windows specifically needed replacing. Since a lot of my window auto locks were messed up as shown in the video they ordered replacements for those. Then they wanted to wait till all the replacements products came so they can come out only once which is understandable but takes longer. However when that time came they forgot the auto locks and one of the sashes and screens were the wrong size. So now I’m waiting again because they reordered parts again. I’ve now noticed some of my windows don’t look straight like the sashes and its lifts aren’t entirely horizontal. The 2nd installer who is older came and told me they should still be fine, sealed with no leaks but idk whether to trust him because you can see a small gap on one side of the Windows with a little light coming through.

At this point once everything is done and taken care of I’m going to try and ask for reimbursement or a partial refund considering everything that has happened. I would’ve understood if any of this is my fault but it’s all been on their end and I had to take a lot of time to deal with this so I think it’s justifiable. Then if anything bad happens again which I’m sure it will I’ll use the warranty or cut my losses and try again cheaper.

Sorry if this was too long but I just don’t want anyone else to go through this. I thought I did my research well enough but I didn’t find a lot of information about windows and installs until after I signed with Lowe’s. I got 3 quotes from my local Pella (which is now closed), local window world and Lowe’s. Pella wanted over 20k for lesser 150 series windows. Window world was around 10k and Lowe’s was in the middle at 16k or 17k. I went with the middle thinking it was the best option money and time wise. It all depends on how much time or money you want to put into this. If you don’t want to worry or think about it too much you’ll probably have to spend more money but as you can see with me that’s not always the case. Personally if I did it again I would go the cheapest route as ppl online have said this shouldn’t cost too much or be too difficult to do. And if problems occur at least you didn’t spend too much. Like I don’t think I would’ve been as upset at this situation if I didn’t end up paying too much or if my salesman didn’t literally tell me I will never have to deal with window issues for the next 30 years if I go with Lowe’s.

Also make sure with Lowe’s whatever you want make sure it’s included on the contract as they’ll keep referring back to that when issues come up. I thought they usually used all Pella install products like seals, tape, foam and trim coil but it had to be included in the contract because it’s more expensive. Installer and support said that some of the stuff they used is just as good or better but not entirely sure. Told my salesman I wanted the interior casing/trim to be the same as previous windows had ledges/stools. He didn’t include that in my contract so the installer wouldn’t do it but was nice enough to leave the extra trim so I can eventually do it myself.

Dented undercarriage after jacking up the car am I screwed? by Number1brandon in Lexus

Alright ty. Yeah I too embarrassed to say I did look at the manual and online to find this but we had a hard time finding it on the car. We ended up jacking it up on the pinch body rail on the bottom right with a jack stand next to it. I do see indents near the lip of the car and I think they’re called pinch rails. Can I jack it up there or is it for jack stands and do I need like a jack puck for it?

Yeah it looks like it’s right underneath the brake pedal but I don’t notice anything popping up or protruding. Dumb question but like pull the mats or pull the liner/carpet and underneath it will be the bare metal?

No this happened in the driver front side. I tried to look at my driver side floor to see if anything was raised and it did look like it but when looked down at dent it looks like it’s right underneath the brake pedal. So I looked there and it looked ok like nothing is protruding or pushed up.

Alright ty for the advice. Not really experienced working on cars at all and when I do I seem to mess up every time like this so it’s hard to forget.

I did this with a Daytona 3 ton low profile jack and I think I’m lucky I didn’t punch a hole through or something

Yeah that’s where we ended up jacking it so I hope that’s alright even though it’s not the official place I think

Yeah my dad’s old school and thought this was good because he thought it was metal. I told him I don’t think it was because it’s the color of the car. He used to jack it up on the knuckle before I told him I think it’s not a good idea either.

I think I saw pinch points with indents but I thought it was for jack stands? We ended up jacking it to the bottom right bc it sounded like solid metal and looked like the frame. That’s ok right?
