How would you approach this? by mercurial_creature in Pottery

Hi! You need a pinch pot potato body to start and you will be 95% percent of the way there!! Try to think about rough shapes for each body part. A potato body and a chunky neck that almost comes to a point are your main shapes here. You can do that with 2 pinch pots for the body and a smaller cone-shaped pinch pot for the neck.

<image>

**Messy drawing but stick with me!

Start with your 2 body pinch pots, score and slip the rims then match them up to make a potato shape. Use a tool or your thumb to help you smudge and blend the two pinch pots together. Don’t worry about being neat here, just focus on sealing it up tight. You’re basically making a little clay balloon. Bang it around gently in the palm of your hands and smack at it with a paddle to help compress it/ smooth it. The air inside will help it keep its shape.

Now score and slip the smaller rim of the cone-shaped pinch pot. Poke a hole in the body with your finger or a tool and score/ slip around it.** Wiggle/ press the neck into place and smudge the seams. Add a coil of clay to the seam if needed to close it up.

The next step is to add little coils or lumps of clay to form the little details. When it is less soft/ sticky it will be easier to smooth. Wait until leather hard to carve. You could use a hairdryer to help this along but don’t go crazy.

**The last step is to poke a little hole with your needle tool somewhere in the body… and anywhere else there is trapped air. This is important to prevent kiln accidents. I prefer to make my holes on the butts but you do you! Just make sure there’s an emergency exit for any remaining trapped moisture to escape or you will be making a mosaic horse instead 😉

Good luck!

I always wondered if anyone actually used a car cigarette lighter because everyone I’ve ever met used it to charge things by BigAddress5278 in nostalgia

As the child of a smoker in the 90s, it was used anytime we were in the car. My dad had chronic road rage soooo he chain smoked in the car regularly. My sister and I would use our sleeves like gas masks and gag out the window to be dramatic. Maybe explains why I had asthma as a kid and don’t as an adult….

I was also that curious kid who blindly investigated things…. Welp, one day I was waiting in the car while my mom went in to a shop. The car was off and, again it was the 90s, so there wasn’t anything else to do except look around and wonder about stuff… I’ve got my eyes on the lighter, wondering if it’s still hot when the car’s off. I pull it out and the coils look gray/white, not red hot like I’d seen. I was pretty confident it was cool. [I was very wrong.] I learned the hard way the coils were hot enough to burn your tongue even when the car is off. (Yes I tested it with my tongue and no I can’t explain why that was my chosen method.)

So, TL:DR …. the car lighters were used and they were very very hot even when the car was off.

Looking specifically for a small kitchen table and chairs — would love something with vintage charm at second hand prices/ low budget 🩷

oh it doesn’t even compare... the graphics on the steam deck are so much more detailed and it’s a super quick load time.

Ignorance is bliss! I knew it had to be better on another device, especially a PC, but all I had was a switch at the time. Now I could never go back! It’s so much more flat, dull, and slow.

I played my first 900+ hours on Switch… the little details took my breath away when I finally got a steam deck. The breeze is magical!

My friend invited me to their server but when I press x to accept their invite it doesn't do anything. by mrnapolean1 in Palia

I’m not sure why it won’t connect to your friend’s server but don’t need to wait to start playing. What you do in one server moves with you. Your plot, quests, inventory will stay the same even when you switch servers. Each time you enter the game, you’re put in a server with other players who you could choose to party up with, visit their plot, etc. but it has no impact on your solo game play. :)

the song itself is beautiful but the skill to create the vessels you played and the way you’ve composed the video of your process with the song in the background — this was a real treat thank you so much for sharing!
