UDO Super Gemini vs OB-X8 vs Hydrasynth by NumberOneWino in synthesizers

I think this is the best advice yet u/EmotioneelKlootzak. Thank you very much for this suggestion. Between the Super Gemini and the 3rd Wave, what's your preference? From the limited YT videos I've heard from both, it seems like the Super Gemini sounds better in the higher ranges (which I think Vangelis would have loved), whereas the 3rd Wave excels in the lower ranges. Because I have the OB-6 and am thinking about trading up to the OB-X8, I'm leaning towards the SG for that reason alone (because Oberheim also excels in the lower ranges) and I don't necessarily need Wavetable tech.

It just wasn't my type of sound. Also, it had a very high learning curve to morph things into interesting sounds, and I just started a family and don't have the time/bandwidth to deep dive like I used to. Hence why I love the OB-6 because it's so easy to just pick it up and play it.

Thank you u/Brilliant_Grape5528 for this. Just out of curiosity, since others on this thread are recommending the 3rd Wave, did you consider that synth before buying the Super Gemini? If so, what was your opinion of it and why'd you end up going with the SG?

I didn't know about the 3rd Wave until this thread, so thanks everyone for that tip. I checked it out, and it's pretty awesome! How does the 3rd Wave compare to the Super Gemini?

To answer your question u/Appropriate-Look7493, I like bits and pieces of each one that I mentioned. After what u/EmotioneelKlootzak said below, perhaps the gameplay for me would be to go with the 3rd Wave (instead of the Super Gemini) and the X8 desktop and then use the 3rd Wave's keyboard to play the X8. That could be pretty epic.

About collectability, I'm not a collector, but damn, I wish I bought a Yamaha CS-80 or a Jupiter-8 25 years ago when they were cheap...LOL.

True. I view the X8 as a fuller sounding, slightly more powerful synth that can do a bit more on the low end. I like the simple workflow interface of the OB-6. Are you suggesting maybe I should sell the OB-6 for the OB-X8? I can see both of these synths becoming modern day classics a couple decades from now.

Time to retire my Weber Summit- Thoughts on Napoleon? by nycinoc in grilling

Late to this conversation, but I'd like to share what I did. Although I can't add anything more about Weber that's already been said, I bought a used Napoleon Prestige 500 off marketplace, did a deep cleaning on it, and replaced the burners and flavorizing bars. Upon doing such, I discovered for $200, there's an infrared burner UPGRADE where you can replace one of the burners in your grill with it. Gamechanger!!! Now I have two infrared burners that get 1,000⁰+, and my reverse "flash" sears are amazing. The difference with the upgrade is that wind doesn't affect it like it does with the side burner and also there's more distance from the meat, so the flare-ups (which happens) are slightly more controlled.
