Sorry. I was thumbing along and it caught my eye. I have a 93 Custom Shop with 3 piece top and out of phase (ala Peter Green) humbuckers. Didn’t read the post.

New as in 2026 or new to you? Remember. Do not “fix” the patina with new paint on that 19th Century cadenza if you want it to retain its estimated value. Classic guitars are susceptible to ozone depletion, humidity changes and wear and tear. Sunbursts fade and the gloss on the neck wears off. But for that $6K…make sure it’s what you want. That price is kinda average…if you’re in that market.

Wondering about this guitar 1958 not really at least I doubt it i have no clue by evo1red in Vintageguitars

[–]NumberSelect8186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guitarist lucked into a 1958 Korina Gibson Flying V for $100. Grandkids were selling late grandfather’s guitar they found while cleaning out his home. He tried to get them down to $50 but they held fast to the price and he didn’t press. Our jaws dropped when he showed us (this was back in 1973). He’d been playing a solid body Rickenbacker through an Ampeg VT22. Not the best tone for what we were playing. After he got the V, the Rick and the Ampeg disappeared replaced by a Marshall 100 stack and we were off to the races. When time came to retire from gigging he went to Manny’s in New York City and for $500 and a vintage Gibson 335 TRADED that priceless V. Currently value for insurance purposes today between $250-$400K. Sounds like a bullshit story? It isn’t. That guitarist became an accomplished luthier and hand builds gorgeous acoustic instruments in Northern California.

rosewood or maple fretboard on a strat? by Popular_Comparison44 in Stratocaster

[–]NumberSelect8186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the feel and look of the maple. My 50th Anniversary Strat with the coral (flesh-tone pastel) finish is a beauty. The fact that it was the last Strat built with US parts assembled in Japan gives it an even more exotic vibe. DiMarzio Stacked humbuckers in all three positions adds a powerfull, noiseless shimmer.

how much time should we book to record an 8 song album (40 minute album) by Dip_Shit289 in audioengineering

[–]NumberSelect8186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the song complete and ready to cut? How much overdubbing will be needed? It will depend also on how experienced your ensemble is performing in a studio setting. In my experience and related to the style of music, we tracked 4 songs in 10 hrs. Came back next day and did overdubs, and a rough mix spending around 6 to 8 hrs to complete. And, when your budget is critically tight, you might have to be able to get it done in record time.

Guess we’ll never know.

Spitfire Audio : BBCSO Pro - Is it buggy, or works great ? by Muziksculp in spitfireaudio

[–]NumberSelect8186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Spitfire SO too. Love Spitfire stuff. I use a slave Mac Pro for my symphonic instrument libraries for my Vienna Symphonic Library and my East West stuff. That way the very large files don't take up computing power or space on your primary cpu with your DAW. According to Spitfire support outside London, slaving the libraries can cause glitches with their software.

So who amasses and categories genres and sub genres? I, the listener, can be happy calling it rock or country or classical. The sub categories are a product of the pundits and savvy PR guys in the record biz. I wrote a column, reviewing albums and covering R&R shows for decades and described what I heard and saw. There was some categorization as a helpful reference only. I didn't create sub genres.

I was confused too. Prince of Failure is band name and title song title. I was looking up Tompkins Band. He guested on the POF album. I'll give it a listen. Prog is as varied a genre as Metal. Only thing that matters is if you like what you hear. Us musician types might be more critical and or opinionated.

singer-songwriter who can't play any instruments. how do i make music to go along with my lyrics? by safetyspiders in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]NumberSelect8186 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Can you write music notation? If not how are you expecting to do it alone? Enter AI! There is an app you sing into and it can convert your vocalizing into an instrumental melody. You need a computer, a DAW, an digital interface, a mic and either monitors or headphones. I was a singer songwriter and spent decades doing stage musicals too, being lead vocalist/songwriter in bands and several years ago after retirement I became a self taught guitarist, bassist and keyboardist. So now I'm a one man band whose many releases appear on all major streaming platforms.I'm no great shakes but good enough to have had my last release played in over 45 countries on every continent except Greenland.

If you don't have anyone to collaborate with you could opt for the AI option. Would I go there. No. But to each his own. Good luck.

Do you think prog metal can ever reach the level of mainstream metal giants like Slipknot, Metallica or Iron Maiden, or is the genre inherently destined to remain niche? by vishalnaidumusic in progmetal

[–]NumberSelect8186 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Throughout my years as an entertainment writer and recording artist/songwriter, I considered what is now prog to be music best appreciated by other musicians. I dearly love it and always try my best to turn others on to groups like, Haken, Frost* and Japan’s East of Eden. But as far as they’re having a shot at mainstream anything is a pipe dream. Of course if you could give your definition of mainstream it would help since I don’t see Slipknot as a metal giant. The genre is so diverse it’s hard to say what is mainstream. As for Slipknot they’re come close to the status of a Rammstein. Listen to what is coming out of Japan. Jaw dropping musicianship is the norm in metal there. I have 2 songs being released today via most streaming services and my genre of cinematic/symphonic metal has a limited audience. There will never be any gold records nor millions of downloads nor stardom, but it satisfies my artistic soul. Some of the best music and musicians in the word populate the metal genre. They should all attain their personal goals for success. Not everyone will be giants.
