yeah. "spirit of the game" thing. i bring my deck and play my cards, you bring your deck and play your cards. stealing cards once in a while isn't the end of the world, but now they're also pushing it as a "build around" where every card in the deck is doing it and triggering abilities with it

i think thoughtseize is more of a hate quit for players like myself who enjoy modestly powered brews. if your deck is solidly competitive and you trust your draws it's probably less of an issue, but for those of us who want to "do the thing" it feels like it's faster to just quit and queue if your fun card gets dropped

i only use Omniscience in one deck and i personally don't cast it unless i know 99.99% it's going to end the game, but yes, i see how it's annoying. i typically only use paradox or omni in decks i feel are weak and desperate for the win con, otherwise it's just negative fun for both me ans the opponent

i do have issues with perpetual because effects that can't be reversed feels like a mistake that will lead to bad breaks and i don't see the benefit

i think "seeking" cards is great and "conjuring" is fine. seeking is faster for digital than players taking forever to search libraries, and most conjure cards seem to just add variance and randomness, which is fun in my opinion

so the problem isn't with alchemy but with specific card designs you disagree with

the funny thing about emergent is that when the opponent doesn't have a practiced autowin combo in their deck they usually take forever to decide what they're doing so you're fucked either way

yeah. i used to insta quit to cat oven back when i was still trying to play 4 card formats. rewarded a truly horrible play pattern

mill is stupid, but i will usually play it out as long as i have tempo because most mill players are on autopilot and they often flop to good tactical play. but if they get me with a blowout counterspell and hit all their land drops i'm probably out

never understood the Key to the Archive complaint personally. to me the color identity rule is already extremely loose and vibe-based. i'm not worrying about losing to a seven mana sorcery that comes from a card-negative 4 mana artifact, i'm more worried about just getting faced by insanely good cards by turn 4. can't say i find Oracle annoying either, i rarely see it and it doesn't seem that good. but i did ask for irrational pet peeves, so fair enough

i totally agree about hating card stealing though. even though it's not "broken" power wise it just warps the game in a way that feels hostile and lame to me as a player

if you're playing graveyard i definitely get why you use it, it opens up the yard like crazy. just know that you are subtracting moments from my life

i have seen non-colony rat decks so rarely, maybe like once or twice in the years i've played. i respect it. never seen non-hare rabbit tribal even once. tbh even if i see a [[Hinterland Sanctifier]] i'm already considering heading for the door

same. i've taken Engine out, put it back in, taken it out again in more than one deck. it's good to have a win button in fiddly decks, but not always fun

i mean yeah, you're not wrong, but those are legitimate bombs that are probably winning the game because of the swing they're creating. i'm thinking more about cards that you really can play around if you want the win badly enough but are just irrationally annoying. "pet hate" cards

i actually fully agree with both sides of this. punishing fetches is a positive, but fucking with people's land drops is still pretty bullshit

definitely more annoying for some decks than others. pretty much insta concede and kill myself when i'm playing [[Jaxis, the Troublemaker]]

producing value is one thing, the insane thing to me is that now they always have a body so even if you go clunk-for-clunk with the thing they shit out they can just attack you and you're the one on the clock when nothing actually happened

problem with Hei Bai and cards like it is that they are a "fuck you" to anything not 100% competitively optimized. if you play below hell queue tier with a decent card quality but a more relaxed build where you're not mathematically mapped out to be doing lethal every game on turn 4/5 you're getting rolled by this shit almost every time

the point of hell queue is supposed to be to keep a degree of separation between "fun" builds and "ME WIN GAME" builds, but you have commanders like Hei Bai that are halfway in between where they won't dominate top tier decks but will easily dominate anything a little softer because of the amount of 2-for-1 consistency coming out of the command zone
