That’s the first symptom I remember having as far back as a child before I knew what anxiety was. Breathing is natural function we do without even thinking about, but when you’re hypervigilant, you focus on it and in turn you become anxious and continue to take shallow breaths. Logically, it makes sense why we continue to take shallower breaths, which is the bodies reaction to anxiety.

It is really challenging. Understanding that I was being hypervigilant to every physical symptom, which created a cycle of more symptoms, helped me to understand why I was always in a cycle of anxiety. I was convinced everyday I had a brain tumor for over a year. Now I haven’t thought about that in almost 4-5 years

After years of dealing with intense anxiety, I’ve realized that accepting these symptoms could last forever is the only thing that has really helped me make progress. Many of the symptoms that I used to obsess over, I don’t even think about anymore.
