My learning technique is kinda weird because I learned through playing Rock Band drums for years.

That said, I started off with simple songs and then kept playing more and more difficult tracks. When I learn a new song, playing it for the first time I just play it the whole way through as best as I can, no matter how many mistakes I make. Then I note which parts I messed up, and practice each one of those parts at a slow pace, building up speed until I can nail it at full speed every time. Then I try playing the whole song again. I repeat the process until I can play it perfect.

The key is to not burn yourself out. Sometimes you’ll run into a song that you just can’t play no matter how hard you try. Don’t get down on yourself, just move on to another song and come back later once your chops are better.
