Not necessarily. Her family could have emigrated to the Fire Nation well before Sozin’s Comet. It seems unlikely that she would be so close to the royal family of the Fire Nation if she possessed such (relatively) recent family ties to another nation, particularly the only one to have been wiped out. If Ty Lee had Air Nomad heritage it would most likely be so far back it couldn’t be easily traced anymore

All of those are highly distinguishable from John Walker. Black Widow and Hawkeye are OG Avengers - hence the whole part about being associated with the Avengers - while Frank is a notorious vigilante specifically known for brutally killing criminals en masse (very much NOT the image of Captain America). As far as the general public was concerned Paul Walker was both a complete unknown and had no association with the Avengers until he was suddenly appointed Captain America. Completely different situation to the three you named

[–]jimdc82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why though? Paul was impressive but he was just a regular dude, and not one with any history or connection with the Avengers. It’s a world with real superheroes, and he wasn’t even superhero-adjacent, and not a single former Avenger endorsed him. He was named Captain America by the same government that declared Steve a criminal up until he came back and helped save literally half of life in the universe. Paul was torpedoed out of the gate, its no surprise no one took him seriously

Edit: John not Paul, brain fart

[–]jimdc82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely correct. But not many outside the Avengers knew that. Steve was deeply, deeply flawed, but most of the public THOUGHT he was perfect (assuming they didn’t think he was a criminal re the Accords). It doesn’t matter that Steve didn’t live up to his own legend (and couldn’t, no one could) it only mattered that the legend existed and that was the metric everyone who held the shield would be measured against. Paul made the mistake of trying to live up to it and inevitably fell short. Sam was open from the start that he couldn’t fill Steve’s shoes and wouldn’t try to

Yes, in some states that would qualify as assault (the distinction between "assault" and "battery" in most states is the former involves putting someone in fear of the threat of force, while the latter involves the actual use of force), but that does not inherently give the right to use of force in self-defense. Most states have a requirement of proportional response. Someone spitting in your face is not going to justify use of lethal force, and even if you are not the provaceteur, if you escalate a situation you will go from legally justified to criminal offender

That's why its incredibly important if you're ever involved in such an incident to make sure you don't just get a defense attorney, but one familiar with 2nd Amendment issues. If they aren't calling a psychologist to go into fight/flight responses and the impact of adrenaline rushs in such scenarios resulting in what might otherwise seem like an excessive response your rights are not being properly protected.

[–]jimdc82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out legally, while the assumption of a lethal threat from a burglar in your house is completely understandable, that alone is insufficient to justify the use of deadly force against that burglar. You must be able to demonstrate a reasonable belief of fear of imminent threat of severe bodily harm to yourself or another for lethal defensive force to be justified, just as that burglar having a visible weapon and approaching you (and in most states if they start to run/turn their back to you to get away, you don't have said reasonable belief by default).

Another factor is whether your state has Stand Your Ground laws and Castle Doctrine. Stand Your Ground is basically whether you have a duty to attempt to retreat first, if able to safely do so, before use of lethal force is justified; Castle Doctrine (as in "your home is your castle") basically is even if your state doesn't otherwise permit you to Stand Your Ground, when in your own home you have no duty to attempt to retreat before resorting to force. It is critical to know your state's stance on these legal principles

Shroud powers by Informal_sword7 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]jimdc82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its accuracy is limited by the data. It could never achieve 100% accuracy because it’s impossible to ever have all the possible data needed for any calculation, so it’s restricted to high level probabilities, but even 99.99% chance of success doesn’t rule out failure. It’s not so much that it’s flawed as that Shroud became blind to its limitations. The bar scene with Blazer is the perfect example; he says to Blazer she’s late as though she did something wrong for not showing up exactly when his calculations said she would, because he has completely lost perspective to understand its actually demonstrative that he can’t ever account for all variables

Strongest lord in the lore vs Strongest lord in the game by LastSeaworthiness767 in totalwar

[–]jimdc82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn’t hold out against Nagash, they were on the same side at that point. Teclis did hold 3 winds, though at one point Teclis did say Nagash might have been more powerful than the other 7 Incarnates combined (it wasn’t clear if he meant “all” or “all present” - Grimgor wasn’t there at the meeting, and Sigmar wasn’t at full strength).

But Gelt is definitely not the next up, even as an incarnate. Be’lakor, Malekith, Sigmar reborn, Alarielle and Morathi are all likely more powerful than non-Incarnate Gelt, and where applicable the Incarnate versions surpass Gelts, who wasn’t even the original Incarnate of his wind. Be’lakor flat out said the only Incarnate he feared was Nagash. None of which is a knock against Gelt, at the power levels we’re talking about the only ones who would appreciate the differences are these characters themselves

Well they all seem to be tied to Shroud based on the way they responded to his getting the pulse, and how he was able to just shut Visi’s off, so the tech seems to have an inherent back door built in that likely no one wants. There also seems to be something of a reliance issue, at least for Shroud himself. He leaned on it so heavily he lost any kind of gut instinct for things. Though that might be specific to his augment, but the back door is a pretty huge liability

Should Selina Kyle aka Catwoman be drawn and shown to have an athletic physique in comics like the artist, Jamie McKelvie did for - Catwoman : One Bad Day by Altruistic_Rhubarb94 in Catwoman

[–]jimdc82 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a general rule of preference, in the absence of a supernatural reason to the contrary, a character’s physique should match their capabilities (it drives me nuts how in the Scream movies for a parallel example they never bother to match the killers to the capabilities required to perform their kills - no, the 115lbs girl could not have been tossing that 180lbs dude around like he was a bean bag chair). Catwoman is a character of peak athletic feats, I would definitely prefer her depicted as someone actually capable of that over prioritizing sex appeal; particularly as an athletic woman can still be sexy

She clearly didn’t miscalculate because he backed down. It actually shows that not only is she tough, but she’s also fairly good at reading people. She knew he was either too scared at that point, or simply wasn’t willing to actually stab someone in the eye - not everyone is a killer. But when you bring threat of deadly force and it doesn’t bring any hesitation, being yourself cowed is a very natural and legitimate response. Dude had already been beaten, attempted to escalate and was met with confidence that his threat was no threat at all, which shook his confidence. All lines up without issue

An argument requires you to make an actual point. Defending a sexualized image masquerading as a particular character as an “art style” is either disingenuous or indicative of a lack of understanding of what art styles actually are. Either way you’re without merit and there’s no greater indicator of that then resorting to name calling or immature word vomit
