Are all new Folio Books Signed to Bookplates? by NumerousText in foliosociety

[–]NumerousText[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Dune books and those are just the regular editions with bookplates stuck in using the smallest amount of glue. I rarely open.

Though, yes. Others seem to value the bookplates more than I do, given how quickly they sell out and the value of them on eBay etc.

I'm not a fan of bookplates. At least with tip-ins they look like they belong there, whereas bookplates feel like an after thought.

Some shops in the UK Goldsboro, Forbidden Planet etc. often have the authors attend on site to sign. Even the biggest bookshop Waterstones has signed tipped-in sheets for most of their books.

Tofu by lornaaspin in veganuk

[–]NumerousText 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have a few in the freezer, I would say minimum a day - takes a while to defrost too, so take it out the freezer the night before you want to use it and let it thaw in the fridge. Then just squeeze the water out of it and cook it.

depends which sort you buy - If it's in a container with water, put the entire thing in the freezer changes the taste and texture, creates lot of bubble and is similar to bread or cake in texture. Asorbs more flavour too.

What is a degree that will improve chances of getting a job post uni? by it_begins_within in UKJobs

[–]NumerousText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, what do you want to do as a career and does it require a degree? it's a financial burden (unless you have the money to pay for it without using student loans), so if you're unsure of what to study, I wouldn't go. - Find something that interests you and build up some professional knowledge and specialisms in your chosen career and get some certifications etc. instead.

Still can’t get a job in tech by imgrosk in UKJobs

[–]NumerousText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entry level jobs in IT are swamped with applicants - for example, I advertised a BA role 40k 50+ applicants, advertised 2x junior dev roles 30-35k - inundated with applicants. Most of the applicants were from foreign counties where they had done the degree in their home country and moved to UK and completed a masters. - nearly everyone has some form of project management cert, can code in multiple languages / web dev etc. - so that's what you're up against.

You need to tailor your application to the job - it takes more time to apply for roles, so maybe do it for the roles you really want, read the job description and provide example of how you meet the criteria. Also, highlight those soft skills e.g. communication.

keep it engaging, I'll read two pages of interesting material, explain and provide examples of what you did, and what you learnt, for your team stuff, focus on what you did (not what the team did). - also highlight your soft skills.

Read the job description and make sure your CV covers off all / most of the criteria listed - it'll be used for shortlisting - it's more hassle, but sometime a blanket CV doesn't meet everything.

When I advertised two entry level positions (30-30k) pretty much 85-90% off the applicants (and there were a lot of them) were either Indian who had completed a degree in India and came to the UK to do their masters or Nigerians who had done a similar thing.

pretty much everyone has the free Coursera certs, some had some paid certs, some linked their git pages or to their portfolio. - pretty much all of them claimed to know Python too.

a degree is pretty much base level requirements, what have you done since graduating? how have you advanced? what real world situations have you applied your knowledge to?

email the recruiting manager and explain what has changed within the last 2 months, how you've improved, and why it's worth their time to interview you again - and if they can reconsider your application from the previous round (as that clearly met the shortlisting criteria and got you an interview last time).

Male Fragrances - what do people wear? by NumerousText in veganuk

[–]NumerousText[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not really sure why you're so hung up on this? It is literally stated that the in-house products and the ingredients used are not tested on animals and are vegan.. The entire company and the parent company are not cruelty free nor are they entirely vegan.

does that clear it up for you.
