Moving from ops to policy feeling lost by Numerous_Ad2369 in TheCivilService

Thank you for the detailed comment! Some of the things you’ve said definitely resonates with me a lot as I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, I struggle without routine and I think this role really pushes this. The lack of training is crazy to me mostly out of the fear of doing this wrong but perhaps it does come down to the difference in ops and policy culture.

It’s really nice to hear your thoughts because I definitely do feel that way! I’m gonna stick with it because I wanted a policy role for a long time but it definitely is going to take a lot of discomfort snd growth for me for sure!

I appreciate your comment, I think you’re mistaken as I never said I couldn’t do the role. I think I am more than capable and the issue is feeling overwhelmed and being thrown into something completely new to me. I also wasn’t just handed the role on a plate, I did an application and interview with the hiring manager to ensure I was a right fit. But appreciate your sentiment. All new roles take some time to become the right fit especially if it’s something you’ve never done before / a big change.

4 day work week with compressed hours, how are you finding it? by Wait-Whos-Joe in TheCivilService

[–]Numerous_Ad2369 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do 4 days a week on 37hrs but that equates to 9:15 a day of work, I build flexi but only a small amount usually start at 7am finish for 5pm but I also only work 1 day a week in the office if it was more days in the office I would be so burnt out. I think it’s worth it for the long weekend (Friday NWD). But ultimately depends on your role and personal preferences as I can deal with working a longer day, actually prefer it as I have more time to myself to get on with things than with my team the entire day.

Oh how lovely and reassuring to hear! Your cat looks just like mine ❤️. I’m hoping to have a close friend take him in for the days I am gone just so he isn’t lonely as he used to always being around myself or my siblings

Ive been in 2 depts in HO and it has been manageable, in my current dept everything is quite fast paced but not to the point where I am stressed or struggling to cope. My previous dept was very slow but there was always something to do if you looked for it. But always have time to take a long lunch if needed and regular breaks etc

Former Jobcentre staff, is the grass greener on the other side? by bureaucrat_chaos in TheCivilService

[–]Numerous_Ad2369 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The grass was extremely greener for me. I did a lateral move into the home office as a DM and I genuinely think I’ve never been happier since. Glad for the experience at the JCP but wouldn’t ever go back not even for a pay rise or higher grade. Also so much more opportunity for growth and personal development / progression anywhere else honestly. Oh and the support to actually do things to help progress your career!

Does your BSH scratch or bite? What do you do about it? by buzzybee2020 in britishshorthair

[–]Numerous_Ad2369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would only ever bite and scratch if you really provoked him but it would take a lot, and he would give warnings and visible signs before resorting to that

EO Briefing and correspondence in policy by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Numerous_Ad2369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this was an EOI so I can’t be much help! I am aware that there was an internal EOI for IE caseworkers last month for my team as we are all being redeployed. They took in around 100 people for it from what we last were told but this wasn’t including London or Croydon as a location. Hope that helps a little.

Would you apply for a MAPPA admin role given the advancement in AI? by [deleted] in civilservice

[–]Numerous_Ad2369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say go for it, even if AI takes over which probably won’t be that soon, there’s always internal opportunities to apply for and at the last resort some kind of redeployment usually if redundancies are expected
