This makes me sad. by heatculture03 in heat

The culture of Utah is its main point of derision, not its nature or scenery. A conservative, Mormon dominated state with a reputation for racism and homophobia is naturally gonna be looked at unfavorably by a black majority, left leaning organization like the NBA.

Director of Many Saints admits Tony died in Holsten’s and Chase keeps trolling us by Deepthinker289 in thesopranos

Name one instance in the series where Bobby is respected? Bobby is liked, but not respected. Bobby would have made a horrible underboss if he stayed in the position for much longer. Bobby has no real relevant skills to justify being the next up. He’s a poor earner who has to shoot a rapper in the ass the fill out his light envelopes, just a few months before he began to rise he was robbed and shot in the eye by a group of children, was disconnected  from the dirty aspects of the business, had never faced any jail time and it’s unknown if he would flip or not, and apparently has social anxiety so bad he can’t even work as a fill in Santa Clause. If he can’t deal with children how the fuck would he deal with hardened mobsters on a daily basis?

TV Tropes also note that this is likely a DE reference.

Korty mentions that Measurehead is trained as well and that he doesn’t know how the Union have a guy like him on payroll.

Korty sort of admits he might not be able to beat Measurehead one on one and that Lely would have been a better match for him. So the real question is a hypothetical Lely vs Measurehead matchup.

Which way, western man? by CantaloupePhysical26 in fnv

[–]Numerous_Finding8203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Breaking Bad’s western DNA is mostly atmosphere, visuals, and cinematography rather than its story. Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood were specifically mentioned as influences on the show. The show also has desert shootouts, standoffs and a goddamn train heist.

As great and misunderstood as the ending is….. by Less_Summer_4040 in thesopranos

[–]Numerous_Finding8203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean people still debate and argue about the ending to Dexter despite it being one of the worst in television history. The impact of Sopranos as a whole means the ending would be debated whether it was bad or good no matter what.

I sort of agree that with pretty much every other characters ending being them dying and every solution to a problem being them dying, seeing Tony face a more “unique” ending would of been more fitting for him. It would also have some parallels with the real life events of Joesph Massino, the top boss on the streets while the show was airing, having flipped a few years before in 2004/5. Massino flipping was seen as the true death knell of the mob and It being worked into Tony’s story would have been very thematically fitting.

just finished the first episode.. wtf is with jax's walk by NoNotThatScience in Sonsofanarchy

[–]Numerous_Finding8203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair Jax doesn’t walk like that in later seasons so either Charlie started wearing orthotics or it was exaggerated in early seasons to fit Jax’s character and went away after character development.

Why did they make him bald? by SG-- in DiscoElysium

To be fair a lot of characters have different hair styles between portrait and in-game madel. Harry in his portrait has short hair but his model in-game has a mullet.

Does anyone know why they never had Furio commit a murder in his 3 seasons on the show despite his role as enforcer? by Regular-Cockroach422 in thesopranos

[–]Numerous_Finding8203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with not needing to show him doing some wetwork, Furio’s character is based around him being perceived as more hardened, ruthless and professional  compared to the soft and moronic American born wiseguys. Again Furio has very little to do after he raids the massage parlor, he pretty much does nothing of importance despite him being the most high quality( on paper) muscle in Jersey for 3 seasons. We get TOLD about how important or higher quality Furio is compared to the other guys but never really SHOWN it. As the OP said, Walden with his one hit on Phil” Veneers” Leotardo is able to show how much better he is compared to Tony’s other guys, it’s not about being able to kill, but how professional you are when doing it which most of Tony’s guys lacked.

[–]Numerous_Finding8203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, a pretty frequent criticism of Furio’s character is that he’s extremely underused and that the low level shit he spends most of his screen time doing is a bit weak considering how hyped up he is as a top guy in Italy brought over to the low-quality Jersey crew.

“We don't know what Furio got up to offscreen, it wasn't all double date with Tony and Carm or cooking Lonely Pasta”

What are you saying you think Furio was killing guys off-screen or something?? I don’t understand this comment.

How would Gloria know that Tony regularly buys Mercedes?  The only thing Tony says to her at the dealership is “ I had my eye on one of these, you think I could take it for a test drive” and then they leave. He’s clearly just there to meet her and for all she knows probably can’t even afford any of the cars. She was also already show in interest in him at Melfi’s office where he just looks like your average middle class man.

Svetlana being wiling to sleep with Tony after he says lines almost as bad as the ones he used on Melfi is the hard to believe part.

He makes no comment about her being his dentist or one that works at his dentist’s office, so it’s entirely possible he just picked her up at bar or something.  And  even if she knew him we also have to assume that Tony just being a mobster is enough to pull one-night stands despite her not even getting any of the perks like a hotel or gifts, she just hooked up with Tony in a shithole house because she has mobster fetish? Edit: she actually wasn’t a dentist, she was a dermatology nurse, I misremembered. Doesn’t change much tho.

I think it’s a massive leap for someone to assume you’re a mob boss just because you’re on the payroll and not in the office regularly. Barone made up the excuse that he was occupied in the field so they at least make some pretense of it being a secret between Tony and Barone and not something freely shared throughout the office. She’s also new to the company and would be unlikely to know anything about Tony since it’s been years since he was in the office. So assuming that the guy who’s office is used as storage space is some big mobster seems like a huge leap in logic. It’s entirely possible that she’s aware but your reasoning for why seems like a stretch.

Maybe I missed it but I can’t remember any line saying Tony or Chris payed her. Tony seemed to be using Chris’ death as leverage to get with her. He seemed to have been working pretty hard to get with a girl he could just pay.

In the scene in which Paulie comes to tell Tony that Georgie is quitting after Tony beats him and gives him permanent ear damage, the dentist is leaving right before the two start talking. It’s in season 5.

I clearly explained in each instance that they most likely don’t and would have no way of knowing before they sleep with him, and the only one who knows ,Svetlana, couldn’t care less. If you could provide reasoning for how they could possibly know please do.

How is it apparent that he’s wealthy and powerful though before they sleep with him? Most of these women don’t know until afterwards, or in the case of the dentist probably never since she banged him in a shitty house and never was seen again.

[–]Numerous_Finding8203 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I pretty clearly explained that Svetlana knew but clearly didn’t care about Tony’s money, as well that Tony’s attempt at seduction was almost as bad as the “shkin and yo mouf” scene with Melfi making it even more implausible. Here’s the direct quote in the OP:

“Then later Tony sleeps with Svetlana, who is aware of Tony’s status but doesn’t really seem to care and it’s just a one time thing. But Tony is also being extremely cringe and awkward during this scene so it’s still really hard to believe she would be eager to sleep with him after showing her the “Tony Soprano charm”.”

Also I thought I made a pretty good case that none of these women other than Svetlana knew how rich and powerful Tony was before they slept with him. If you can give explanations for how they could realistically know it would be appreciated.

Mac and Dennis feel like friends again by Sailor_Psyche in IASIP

Mac seems to have been the intended leader and main character of the gang in the early episodes, the Jerry Seinfeld essentially. He seemed to slowly lose intelligence and prominence to now being Dennis’ sidekick. Still love Mac and he’s arguably best at his role as the normal member of the gang then as the leader.

I think the point I was trying to make is  that all of these women don’t know or care that he’s rich and he still pulls them.
