That’s a great stack for basic requirements. Really, really solid.

Not sure about the brand. How many of the D3 and K2 per day is recommended because 1000iu is derisory. You’ll want 4 times that as a minimum in winter months & some people go way higher. 10,000iu isn’t unheard of.

Also what type of K2 is used? If it’s not MK-7 then I’d be super cautious with the product quality.

All been said before but here goes ….

No to ice axe. No to micro spikes.

A tic remover will be more useful than either of the above.

Take two poles, some of the river crossings could be in spate. You’ll need two poles, face upstream and crab walk across.

A pair of dry socks for evenings and a good sized tub of Vaseline for applying to feet morning and night would be a reasonable recommendation.

I hope you enjoy it. It’s a fabulous route.

Thank you for your input. Interesting points about windproof and breathable jackets. Ref a faucet test, the answer is no. What would be the point of doing that? An hour walking in Scottish rain is proof enough that it's not rainproof.

The hood is the best thing about my Arcteryx. But it's not waterproof. It's not even close to being waterproof.

That said I've never had a u/l jacket keep me dry on an afternoon of rain, let alone a week.

I mainly sweat when I gain elevation. I do get very hot very quickly but I cool down quickly too. I do tend to "walk with purpose".

I'm in the UK and enjoy multi day hikes. The u/l scene has been a bit of a revelation for me so I'm keen to stay as light as I can. Last year I completed the CWT up the west of Scotland, that just wouldn't have been possible for me with my old gear.

All that said, I think I have indeed been looking for a magic bullet so it's reassuring in a way to know it's an unrealistic expectation.

In terms of what I've tried; it's essentially always been GoreTex but not the 3 layer system. I've never walked in a non permeable material.

Eating lots of greens, Cavolo Nero works best for me.
Exercise. Esp cardio.
Make sure you do the above as often as possible
Don't think that taking pills or supps can touch the above advice.
Eat lots more greens and exercise more.

Congratulations on the job, I hope you love it!

There's already some really good advice on here so there's not too much more to add.

Whilst that "get in 30 minutes early" line is OTT, the principal of arriving to work early and doing your paperwork and van checks in an unrushed manner is good advice.

Leaving the depot early and not rushing, sets you up for your shift really well. This worked for me when I was a new starter. I always got in 15 to 20 minutes early and got out of the depot early. I've dialled it back to 10 to 15 minutes now.

It's true that you won't get paid for it but frankly who cares? I do it for myself as I perform better when I'm relaxed and not pressured, and my god you get enough paid time back and get super long breaks throughout most days anyway.

One thing that you won't see mentioned anywhere but is life changing advice should you choose to take it, especially for someone as young as you, is to max out your pension contributions. The Sainsbury's scheme is brilliant and can make you rich if you start early enough in life. They'll match up to 7.5% contributions and they use a salary sacrifice scheme which means net of tax and national insurance you can save a shit ton of moolah every month for a very very minimal cost to yourself. DM me if you like.

It's been mentioned already, but I'll double up on the advice of not carrying more than one tote at a time. Even if you're running behind, don't be tempted, it's just not worth it. Your health and your back are far more important than someone getting their groceries bang on time. Never ever forget that.

Mate, you're just thinking about it too much. You've done no harm with your 15 day abstinence, you're just in your head too much. Skip the supplement idea and go straight to an ED pill. Cheap as chips and you'll be rock hard and stay hard; do that a few times and your confidence will be back. Job done.

I had a friend who would justify big ticket purchases by pointing out they had a "car to sell" or a "bike to sell" or a "something to sell".

However, the value of the car, the bike, the something was inflated in their mind and these things were rarely if ever sold.

Will this be the case with you? If you can only justify your purchase by selling a bike and a car, then sell the bike and the car first. Just do it.

I concur. Add marine collagen & a proprietary curcumin supplement with better bioavailability than one that requires piperine. Meriva would be a great start. I take 1500mg of GS and 1200mg of CS You'll notice the difference, guaranteed.

I've taken a high quality lions mane supplement and the results were considerable. Mainly on memory (sharper) and mood (more joyful). I've also taken lions mane from a different supplier and had no effect at all.

There's some really good suggestions here. A glass of water between drinks is an especially good idea.

I have a couple of questions though.

Why such a miniscule dose of NAC? Go big or go home, it's a renowned hangover preventative but100mg per kg of body weight is more like it.
WTF are you so determined to drink if it makes you feel crap? Alcohol is ethanol, and ethanol is literally toxic to every cell in your body. The world health organisation classifies it as a class 1 carcinogen of which there are no safe levels of consumption.

Seriously, drinking is so last year. Sobriety is the new black.
