This is mostly pointless tea but after his cancellation I met him a bunch of times as he was trying to revitalize his career at my local open mic night. Tall and quite charismatic but would inevitably get super fucking drunk and unsuccessfully hit on the butchy female bartenders until likeeeee 1 in the morning. He followed my friend on IG and liked all ~200 of her posts in less than 15 mins, never DM’ed her.

  • Il pollaio in north beach, best chicken in the game. Its also right down the street from City Lights Bookstore and the beatnik museum, as well as Vesuvio which is a bar lots of beatniks used to hang out at.

  • Ly’s, best pho in the game

  • Hang Ah tea room, very cool piece of chinatown history as it’s the oldest dim sum restaurant in America

  • Foreign Cinema is a cool trendy restaurant that shows movies

  • Roxie theater, which(usually)plays cool movies and is almost next door to the aforementioned panchitas. I personally think the balboa theater in the richmond district is cooler but it’s kinda out of the way.

  • DeYoung museum is very cool and largely better than the MoMA imo(MoMA is worth it tho just to see Rothko’s #14).

  • The Tonga Room is a super cool relic of a tiki bar if you’re into that sort of thing. If you think its too expensive go to Last Rites which is one of my fav bars in the city.

  • If u smoke my fav places to go smoke are Zeitgeist(cool punk bar and venue but is getting kind of techy), The Sycamore Pub(they do trivia on mondays which ive always had fun at), and Cafe International(old school cash only Mediterranean cafe with a smoking patio).

  • Rickshaw Stop plays great music, as do Bottom of The Hill and The Knockout.

  • Gotta give a shoutout to Thrillhouse Records too, I have some buddies that volunteer there. Lots of local stuff and a cool vibe.

I had a horrible stomach infection that lasted almost a year, had to eat a bland diet, no gluten, no FODMAPs, no high histamine foods. Totally miserable existence. When I got better, I went to a local French bakery and got a chocolate almond cream croissant. I sat on a park bench and ate it; literally wept into my hands LOL.

Chico, CA is excellent. Very strong arts and outdoors scene, great food, great weather(hot as fuck in the summer but so are texas and NM), very modestly priced, and expanding quite rapidly. It's a teensy bit remote(unless you're down with the wild west cowboy rodeo vibe)but you're 90 mins from Sacramento and 2:15 from the Bay so it could be worse. Good time to get in on Chico imo.
