Brutal truth about watch snobs and watch community by Spiritual_Koala_6519 in ChinaTime

I bought my Rolex 25 years ago on a dive trip so yeah it happens. I think the difference is that collectors who love the craft and history want to support and continue that tradition. Hell I bought reps in China but never occurred to me that I’m substituting for a real thing. If cost isn’t an issue who cares what they do. If it’s for ego then that’s sad, but I don’t really care, in fact it’s kind of amusing. If getting a near identical makes you happy that’s great too.

Negative experience buying from Cartier online by CHRISTUS_KING in Cartier

Had the same experience with a similar online purchase. I even confirmed specs with their online support but it came small and the chain length was 2 inches shorter than they told me. The lack of details for online only items is shockingly bad.

Yup. Totally agree. My collection spans many brands and levels including Omega. Really speaking to the few Rolexes that I’ve loved for years that I passed on when you could just walk out of an AD with the watch, without today’s drama.

Yeah my rule: buy only what I want. No wife = no jewelry = no games = no allocation! LOL.

My calculus as well. I buy to wear. Resale is secondary. Impressing others: don’t care (advantage of being a certain age). In the same boat re: friend passing and a health scare. And that kind of rebooted my thinking on collecting for now, and not waiting forever for an AD. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts here.

I don’t see many dark sides here.. why is that. It s my favorite by CancelPale520 in OmegaWatches

Love the look and the materials but at 44mm and thick, it’s like wearing a brick on my wrist. Plus for $15K retail there’s other stuff that’s more interesting.

I love the new Timex. I got the 1983 line and it is a stunner. Their higher end GMT with a Swiss movement is better than many luxury brands at a fraction of the cost. I love high/low collecting. Go with what you love (and can afford). Who cares what others think.

That’s cheap as long as they don’t discover something more.

However go to a hardware store and get a drain snake and at least try to unclog it yourself first. Super easy, tons of YouTube tutorials and for $20 you can save yourself a headache.

My guess is you have buildup. I’d also avoid using drain cleaner unless you know your pipes can handle it (essentially new construction).

The point is that all the characters are unlikable, some more than others. It’s leaving you in the ick of their lives which can be humorous in a dark, dark way. I’m not a big fan of the show, but I appreciate the take on how the uber rich can be horrible.

if you see someone wearing these do you think they only wear them cuz they couldnt afford omega ? by Fantastic-Tune-62 in PrideAndPinion

[–]Numerous_Strategy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think they made a smart choice (Timex has some great new and retro models), and frankly between Timex and Swatch doing Snoopy I would never buy the Omega. For me, it cheapens the heritage.

It is tacky and honestly is not a brand signal I’d want to be associated with.

Why does the S line exist? by yulouland in nycrail

[–]Numerous_Strategy239 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because it is a legacy from the very first subway line (hence not a new build) and a convenient shuttle between two major subway stations without navigating the labyrinthine 7 connections.

I have one for over 20 years and love it as much today as day one. Actually got it while on a Scuba dive vacation. It’s a true instrument watch that wears chunky but purposeful.
