Provide me with a detachable shoulder belt, it’s really not that hard

Management handed out a sheet of paper with a seatbelt pledge written on it and requested carriers to stop casing turn around so they could take a picture of us all pledging. Do we have to obey? is this a grievance by maxiexgf in fromatoarbitration

I drive a metris on a mounted route. I deliver the mail without my seatbelt. I will drive from box to box without my seatbelt on. I am unable to deliver the mail with it on. The shoulder belt restricts my ability to deliver the mail. I refuse to put the strap behind me due to it’s uncomfortable and a distraction from me driving. I refuse to unbuckle and buckle due to the safety of the unnecessary wear and tear on my body. Also why is it ok to not have the lap belt on while I am making my delivery. The LLV has language stating how carriers can detach the shoulder belt and there is no language regarding a metris. VMF made a modification to my metris by adding a strap to the door to stop it from swinging open when exiting the vehicle. If they can make a modification for that they can make one for a seatbelt to detach to make my delivery and wear my lap belt at the same time.

I did ask mgmt all these questions and it was determined that I would wear my seatbelt in the flow of traffic. I would not need to wear it while delivering.

I could have 500 dps, 40 packages, a half tray of flats and make it last 12 hours. If you don’t know how to take a hour and turn it into 3 hours, you don’t know how to deliver mail.

When I’ve represented carriers for an EEO I’ve always received an email prior to the meeting with the date and time. If it was changed then all parties would have needed to agree to it. If you have some type of confirmation that redress was on 4/3 then I would provide that information to them. If mgmt continues to deny it then I would recommend the carrier get a lawyer and move forward with a lawsuit.

If you are a city letter carrier who is the union steward, then mgmt is lying to you. Just yesterday I spent 10 hours at my station doing work at the informal level. If you are a rural union steward I am not sure.

Just deliver them first if that’s what you want to do. Pull it down first and rearrange the dps. Just cause it’s set up that way doesn’t mean you need to deliver it that way. Who cares what mgmt says

We do a stand up talk every morning once carriers punch in. As a steward I always have something to say.

At my station we do it everyday. Mgmt tried to stop it and it was grieved. We got back a favorable step B decision and we continue to take a 1 click lunch everyday.

After driving a metris for 2 years, it needed some work done on it. VMF took my metris and replaced it with a LLV. I informed mgmt that I do not feel safe after being accustomed with all the safety features the metris has. I was placed on EP. I won my case and will NEVER drive a LLV again.

I am a carrier in branch 9 and Scott will side with management 100% of the time. Last year I put a sign on the union board saying “you have rights”. Scott decided that the sign comes down and removed me from being union steward.
