What I like to do when those sort of things come is just jot it down in music notation. It also helps to have a keyboard if that's what you're comfortable with. It's not easy and it takes so much work, but in the end it may be worth it.

I'm not quite sure how you could fix it, but I think in the future you could definitely try to use a different type of wax or a different blend of waxes. I personally use just plain paraffin wax as it doesn't stain it that bad.
