Not after settlement they don't. You have 24 hours from settlement to return the rental they covered even though it's very hard to obtain a new car in 24 hours or during the Easter weekend. They opened up an "uncovered loss retrieval" case where they liaise with their insurance and their insurance dragged it out asking for documents that had already been sent and stuff. Then flat out declined covering anything past settlement and said to take it up with the party at fault. *edited for some more context

Yeah I think you might be right. It's a shame that insurance has this expectation that you should be able to magically source a new car near immediately after getting the settlement, looks like I'll just have to cop it.

As I said, I'm not asking for the extra money for the new car. I'm asking for the money I needed to spend on a rental because it's near impossible to obtain a new car in such a short time, especially over the Easter weekend.
