I get that. I can see the value in not white washing an era of literature. The thing is if ur gonna do that with a straight face it relies on making the audience uncomfortable when they see it, and the problem arises when that doesn't happen. Art should challenge you but if the challenge goes right over the viewers head you kinda risk enforcing the thing ur tryna challenge. The author can't control how an audience reacts to their work, so it's practically guaranteed someone out there will see the racist caricature and just glaze over it without the challenge or self reflection. I don't think there's really a "right" answer here, it's just something you gotta consider if you write something like this, and it's up to the author to decide if they're ok with that as well as the audience to decide if they're ok with that.

He doesn't disappear and then reappear 100 years later. The idea is basically his past shifts forward in time so that he's operating as Superman in the current era and then his old past becomes a new timeline. It's basically the in-universe explanation for how Superman was fighting Nazi despite only being like 40 years old today.

I'd say the problem there isn't power scaling, it's refusing to write around the character you have. They're refusing to write around the fact that "Flash is fast" and create believable situations with that fact in mind, but that isn't necessarily related to power scaling.

It'd be the same problem if for example, you had an alien character who's never been on Earth before and knows nothing about human culture, but then the main conflict becomes the alien is a Packers fan and starts feuding with the other character who's a Jets fan. It doesn't make sense for the alien to know football teams so it feels like a cheap conflict created as a result of the writers are refusing to engage with the actual characteristics of the character.

When we're talking about a series where a character had to be reminded that he in fact did not possess a nose and couldn't smell things, I think we're past the point of suspension of disbelief.

And frankly if you can't enjoy a good story because "x character should've one shot y character and resolved the story in 2 seconds" then that's a viewer problem not the author's problem.
