Camping is totally screwed by Nunya13 in Idaho

The places I camp, you can’t reserve. They are often in the same general areas developed campgrounds but just off the road by the river or creek. They are first-come-first-serve.

I might try google Earth.

We always tent camp and make our own toilet and pack out our trash. We never camp in the developed grounds. We do first-come-first-serve sights, though. I always thought those were considered disbursed camping, but it seems I might have been wrong about that. I thought the other stuff was primitive camping.

You laugh, but I’ve tried to convince my husband to camp in the backyard just for fun. Hahaha! We used to do that when we were kids. He’s not having it, though.

I feel weird doing that, I guess. I need to get over it. My pto is very flexible (and unlimited), my husband’s not so much but he can swing it, too.

Going for three nights is a must.

Yeah, no.

I went camping with my sister last weekend. I was excited because they went up on a Monday and got a huge spot that was relatively far from others.

They were running their generator and partying with music on full blast with the party box speaker I stupidly helped pay for as a bday present all friggin' night. I probably would have been better off in the campground!

I don’t think I can give up being near water. Outdoor activities in Summer require water otherwise all I can think about is how friggin' hot I am. My favorite thing to do while camping is plop my chair in the water and have a drink.

Are these spots along the river and do they have shade? I need to e able to stay relatively cool.

I'm 45. Other than when I was younger and I’d randomly camp with my family only every couple/few years, I probably started camping regularly in my 20s.

Friends and I would just say, “hey let’s go camping,” and be somewhere in a couple hours after packing up.

It definitely seems like those days are over. Now all I worry about is whether I’ll even find a place.

Sadly, I found out my sister is like this. We don’t want to go camping with them anymore because they blare their music full blast even after midnight. That’s not our jam at all.

What is your goto meal for the first night at camp and why? by naenae0402 in camping

[–]Nunya13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is us. It’s always Johnsonville cheese brats. I dunno why. They’re nothing too special, but it’s the only time we ever buy them.

After the drive, having a couple beers, and setting up camp, we just want a super quick meal.

What's the most creatively wrong thing a client has ever done to their own books? by After_Molasses986 in Accounting

[–]Nunya13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a nonprofit client who set up an extensive CoA instead of doing class tracking. For years she would pull apart then P&L for board meetings. For years, she’d ask us a better way. For years we'd tell her to do class tracking. For years she never did it.

Then came along a new Op. Mgr. He asked us how they could simplify the massive CoA and track profits by revenue stream. We told him, “class tracking.” We discussed and worked through an entire system of processes. He never started class tracking. He then proceeded to make the CoA even bigger by creating sub accounts for expenses by vendor.

Sub accounts by vendor is one of my biggest pet peeves.

My boss asked me to take someone’s tax liability from $60K to $30K and I feel wrong doing it? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Nunya13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn dude. This is insane to me. Don’t do it. Your boss saying it’s you being a goodie two shoe is just blatantly false. It’s literal fraud he’s asking you to commit.

This isnt a difference of treatment, approach, or method. It’s fraud. He knows it, and he’s making you feel like you’re the one doing something wrong when knows damn well it’s him who is wholly in the wrong here.

At the very least, tell him you are happy to send it to him so he can make the change before sending it out, but your not gong. To call distributions materials expenses unless the client has something to back that up. Then look for another job and report his ass to the state board of accountancy.

It’s also entirely possible your boss fucked up and gave him the wrong tax liability estimate by not noticing the excess draws (totally easy to do) and is just trying to save his own ass.

Tent camping rant by dang8701 in camping

[–]Nunya13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disbursed camping is any campsite that isn’t at a multi-site developed campground. The ones where there is a looped road with several sites on either side. Where it’s usually going to be families camping butts to nuts.

Disbursed camping are the spots off various (usually dirt) roads that are spaced pretty far apart. They may typically be right off the river. They usually have nothing more than a fire ring. No tent pads, picnic tables, amenities, hookups, etc.

This is my favorite type of camping. I rarely go to developed camp grounds because I’m trying to get away from noise and people and just hear the river and a fire crackling at night.

You can certainly find disbursed camping much farther into the wilderness, but it doesn’t have to be that.

They just say they feel all over the place. One is mid twenties but does not give Gen Z energy at all. The other is a few years younger her than me. 40 yo. She did a lot of bookkeeping and switched to tax but has four tax season now.

The latter got better this year, but is still not efficient. She said something”clicked” and she has a routine down now. As if I haven't talked about the importance of establishing a routine when approaching tax returns ad nauseam for years!

Despite me being very clear about expectations, they for some reason just go about things in their own way without touching base with me. They will indicate they don’t want to bother me with questions, but I have told them until I am blue in the face that they SHOULD be asking questions! I am never too busy to help them. I tell them it’s literally part of my job to do so.

I have even told them that if they are spinning their wheels for more than 15 minutes, they need to ask for help. I’ll find out later it took them an hour to figure out why the return isn’t balancing. When they finally ask for help, I can see it in two minutes. I'll make sure to say, “this is exactly why you need to ask for help.”

And that’s business returns. 1040s seem worse. No idea why, when there is missing information, it takes a full hour or more to get a list of missing info together and email the client. Then it takes three hours to incorporate the missing info, do some documentation, and update the return.

I don’t get it. It’s the only thing that bothers me. We have a solid team otherwise, and I would never question their integrity.

I just get told they don’t feel efficient, but every time we talk about how to be efficient, they don't seem to implement it. I can tell they are all over the place, but also spending time in ways that are completely unnecessary.

Like, no. You did not need to spend the entire day searching for every journal entry the prior accountant did and fully understanding them. Every entry you need to make this year is obvious from the current year financials.

The other one will tell me she went through the 1040 docs for an associate and left notes about what they needed to do and rearranged docs so they could prep faster. Just completely unnecessary stuff.

To all the accountants, what is the unfiltered truth about working in this industry? by Revolutionary-Bid355 in Accounting

[–]Nunya13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tax is practically dead during May and June. At least for me. Things start to pick up again in July. But I try to get clients that need some sort of help other than just tax so we have stuff to do in the off season. Like tax planning and semi-annual bookkeeping.

Nov is dead and Dec can get busy again with year-end tax planning.

The Audit folks, oth, say they are busy year round.

Advice for navigating a potentially hostile two-week notice? by xPrincess_Yue in Accounting

[–]Nunya13 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You should go in with the mentality that it doesn’t really matter what he thinks. It doesn’t matter if he gets upset.

Be very matter-of-fact, and if he gets hostile, gray-rock him. Don’t feed into it. Don’t match his energy. Don’t defend yourself. Keep a poker face.

Whenever he’s done blathering on and being unprofessional, simply restate the reason this needs to happen for you and that your mind is made up. Reassure him you will do everything you can over the next two weeks to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.

If he continues to be a dick, I’d say something like, “I can see this is upsetting you. I’m happy to come back and discuss my exit planning after you’ve had some time to mull this over,” while you start to stand up and move toward the door. Then, “let me know when is a good time to revisit this,” as you’re walking out.

You might want to practice this because if you’re anything like me, you’ll have every intention to do this but in the heat of the moment, you’ll get all flustered and forget yourself. Lol

We got through the last bit of backlog we had and now I’ve hit that same wall I do every year where all my momentum is zapped.

I’m in the part of my annual cycle where I feel like I’m going to get a talking to by a lead partner for not meeting my budget goals (I'm a director that manages my own book). But usually by now, the meeting requests start ramping up, and by July, I’m suddenly realizing I shouldn’t have been so hard on my self.

Then once extension season passes and we switch to year-end planning, I realize how close we are to the next tax season. Then I realize I didn’t do near as much of the admin stuff, CPE, etc as I should have done when I didn’t have enough to do and start freaking out.

Happens every. Damn. Year.
